About

You live on an island with just you, your sister and your dad. Farm life is is simple. Water the crops, tend to the animals, and catch bugs. It's a simple life... but then you start exploring. You asks questions. Why am I alone on this island? Dad starts to tell many "white" lies. Your sister becomes paranoid. You become paranoid. There's something wrong on Harvest Island. Discover it's dark story in this horror farming game.

Gods play an important part in Harvest Island. Everyday, the gods will ask you for items that are around the island. You receive bless from the gods once you give the items to them. You use the bless to upgrade your farm or use bless to build and craft stuff.
As time progresses, the forest, caves, and seashores change. When it becomes night, the caves glow, the forest sings and sparkles with fireflies, and the shore recedes creating a low tide. You can see the sunset and sunrise while the landscape changes. The day/night cycle is perpetual and you don't even have to sleep if you want to pull an all nighter or two.
There are many wild animals on the island. You can befriend them, pet them, or even feed them. Sometimes they will give you items they find in the wild or show an undiscovered passage for you to explore.
Throughout the island, you'll collect items like coconuts, seaweed, horseshoe crabs, and other peculiar stuff: Nine-armed starfish, beetle, and a shark. You'll offer these common and strange items to the gods and in return, the gods will reward you by giving you bless. This bless helps you craft, upgrade your farm, and progress the story.
There are tons of different types of fish that you can catch all over the island. Each fish has their own behavior and habitat. Depending on the conditions, fishing during the day or night, or far off into the corner of the island will catch you different types of fish as long as you use the correct bait during those times. You can then cook the fish and eat it to gain bless and stamina when you perform activities like farming.
You can craft various tools from your workbench to help you further explore the island like a ladder, rope, and a fishing pole. These tools will help you further progress the story and will help you farm.
When it rains, animals will hide, fish will hide, and crops will be watered. Sometimes you'll get a sprinkle, and other times it'll pour down hard. But when it's sunny, everything is back to normal.
Tides fluctuate as time progresses, changing the island's landscape. You can pick up sea critters during low tide and offer them to the gods. And tides can open up new paths. It'll allow you to explore the island further.

This game pulled me in and took me for a ride! Its the kind of game i wish i could target mind wipe myself and play again for the first time. Advice for playing the first time; Curb your urge to explore. There is a point in the exploration that triggers the horror ramping up, if you haven't gotten far enough in the story the horror ramping up can be jarring with some of the heartfelt cut scenes. I did play this with the expanded endings DLC already installed, glad i did because while some of the expanded endings are heartbreaking, I'm glad to know the story.
Harvest Island is a story about two siblings, as they explore an island filled with mystery. There are twists, turns, and an abundance of strange occurances. A tale that tricks you into thinking everything's well, when that couldn't be further from the truth. Art The art style in this game is lovely! I was very immersed in the environment, and I love the fact that the characters have so many expressions. In my experience with playing these types of games, it's not very common. Which is a shame. So I truly appreciate the lengths the developer and artist has gone to. The colours are also bright, but not in an overwhelming sense. More so in a fun way. It's a palette that works well with the main characters, especially considering they're both children. Characters Speaking of the characters, I have a thing where I hate kids in real life, but in games I don't mind them as much. This is no exception to that. Will and Samantha truly embody how siblings act. It's a very older sibling move to tease your younger sibling almost relentlessly. I should know, I'm both. Will is what I would call making the best out of a bad situation. He tries to be positive, but have moments where he can't keep certain thoughts or feelings at bay. And he acts out in anger, as most children do when things seem unfair. Their emotions are too much to handle because they haven't found a way to regulate them. To make any character believable is difficult, but Will has been made well! Samantha is a ray of sunshine in a thunderstorm. She's innocent and clueless, but at the same time, incredibly observant and smart. You can be all of these at once. I never had the sense that it was all an act. To me, she didn't deliberately try to be annoying or cause trouble. She's acting like a child would. Greyson, on the other hand, I had so many alarm bells go off, and I didn't know why. There was something strange about him that I couldn't explain. Of course, I now know the reason. And no, I will not say it. I'd suggest finding it out for yourself! Gameplay The gameplay is fairly straightforward, which I enjoy immensely. It focuses on being a farming simulator with a mixture of exploration that made me almost feel like a detective. I'd say the most painful part is not having enough space in your rucksack at the start. There were also some issues with the fishing mini-game. For some reason, the bar for the time to run out wouldn't work for the majority of my play-through. It didn't disrupt much, but it most likely made things too easy. Music I'm very music and sound sensitive. I also happen to be a very jumpy person, so you can imagine how well this went. The shifts in music terrified me to a point where I didn't want to explore because I could tell something was very wrong. Of course, I managed to pluck up some courage and continue on. I wouldn't be here otherwise, but I digress. The other music was quite nice. I like the fact that each time of the day had a different soundtrack. Not only that, but it was the same in the caves too. It scared me so much when it first happened. I thought that I had wandered into dangerous territory. It took me an embarrassingly long time to realise that wasn't the case... Story The story could've gone in so many different directions, but I'm not unhappy where we eventually ended up. I was at the edge of my seat on more than one occasion. And despite my ever-growing anxiety, I wanted to find out what happened. I'm so glad I did because it was more than worth it! When I played this, it reminded me of another horror game. One that I hold dear to my heart. Just like with this game, it tricks you into believing that everything's all right when it's not. And I've now just realised I love that. Great. Text I've played so many games where the text made me have a mental stroke, and very few that left me satisfied. This one has quite a few mistakes, but not as noticeable as other ones. For the most part, the writing is good. I would say it's even great! I'd give it an 8/10, which I believe is the highest score I've given any game thus far. TL;DR Harvest Island is haunting and incredible, with a ton of character!
I bought Harvest Island on a whim after it had been sitting on my wishlist for a while and although I was skeptical at first, I really ended up enjoying the game. The story really hooks you in, you can't help needing to know what is going on and what this island is hiding. The atmosphere + music are really well chosen and although I consume horror movies like it's no one's business, the jumpscares got me and the story made me uneasy many times. I do, however, have to list some cons even though it's a positive review: - the crafting system can be frustrating because even though you build chests, you can't craft from chests. I really, really encourage the dev team to add crafting from chests and not limit to crafting only from backpack. It was especially frustrating to craft/cook food because of this. - THE CHICKEN COOP. THOSE DARN CHICKEN WOULD NOT MOVE AND I WOULD GET STUCK IN A CORNER COLLECTING MY EGGS. Please make it so you can walk through farm animals and NPCs (I got couldn't leave the house or go to the room because Samantha was in the way a lot). I BEG. - It was hard to know if I needed to keep offering to the statues or if I had already unlocked all they could give back. - New game+ for those who want to replay to unlock missed missions/achievements in the first playthrough. Also, let us skip through dialogue in new game+. As of right now, I have no motivation to play through this again even though I do want to complete some of my missed missions... I'm not really in the mood to give this game another 31 hours, you know? Looking forward to the second game and hope the devs taking into consideration my points to improve on!
I found this game to be very enjoyable and the atmosphere is great. The adventure, farming experience etc is all very enjoyable my one gripe is the ending. It felt extremely rushed and abrupt and even after buying the dlc for the additional endings it really isn't a satisfactory conclusion. I don't dislike the ending itself, but the delivery of it felt extremely poor. I cannot recommend the DLC in it's current state as it is potentially 20 or so minutes of additional content. I know the dev is currently working on Harvest Island 2.0 and this is an area that I think needs serious improvement. Other then that I really enjoyed my time with the game itself and enjoyed learning the mystery of the island. There is a lot of really good environmental story telling going on this game and if you let yourself get immersed in the atmosphere I think you will enjoy it too.
A great game! I'd been going back and forth on which farming sim/survival game to purchase and I'm glad I gave the demo a try; I was hooked and played the entire game in 2 days. As someone who is not a fan of horror movies/games, this was just spooky enough for me. Would recommend.
That was a really fun adventure! I loved making my way through this story. I mostly wish it had a bit more to the ending. After beating it, I read a more about the ending(s)? But when I looked it up apparently you have to buy dlc to get more endings. I enjoyed the game immensely, but haven't considered buying endings before.
Charming Mystery Thriller that keeps you guessing
This is an intruiging game about living on a mysterious and dangerous island. From helping on the farm, like caring for the animals and tending to the crops, to unearthing the secrets by exploring the nooks and crannies of the island you will have a lot to do in your day to day life on Harvest Island.
What to expect gameplay wise?
Farming: More focused on animal husbandry than crops. The slice-of-life farming part of this game is very grindy but can be alleviated by unlocking "Blessings" to boost your characters abilities. Especially the watering of plants can get straining, as your plots grow, but you can make use of the God statues to let it rain to help you out. Almost all aspects get easier as you progress, for example you get more crops per plant, use less stamina or can change time of day/weather. Especially helpful was the small god statue in the bedroom in which you can make the little animal idols. combining different idols for permanent blessings should be your focus to make the game easier for yourself. Cooking: Eating a new dish for the first time gives you a permanent stamina boost. Early game boiled crabs for stamina and mussels for fatigue will get you through your days. eggs and rice for midgame did the heavy lifting for me. But they are not really needed as you dont have any time constraints and can do farm for days without progressing the story. Lategame you dont need food if you worked diligently and madea lot of dishes. (I had around 500+ stamina at the end). Still it was fun to find and cook all recipes to complete the food log. Exploring and Crafting: Resource colletion works like a survival game. You can pick up a lot of items throughout the island and will need to manage your inventory/chests accordingly. Inventory can be increased through upgrades and blessings to make it easier. You will have to repair or built some structures and need to collect a lot of wood, stone and iron but if you do that on the side daily you should never run out of materials for a quest. Exploring was my favourite part of the game. There are a lot of secret places you can find and I really liked the aspect of being rewarded with lore, new caves and clearings to uncover just by wandering around and exploring the island. What really stood out was the fast travel system which is implemented really well and gives you a fun little "overworld map" to speed up your travel across the island that is more engaging than a simple list to choose a destination.
Story - Mystery and Dread
Masterful execution of a solid storyline through subtle worldbuilding presented in cute little cutscenes that turn ever so slightly sour the longer you play and fill you with a slight unease you can not pinpoint exactly. The farther you uncover what is causing you to feel liek something is not quite right the more the island changes. You may not notice it but the subtly changes to the music and the background sounds will fill you subconciously with dread everytiem you hurry through the woods at night. Zones that felt safe before will become more hostile as you press on. The rains will turn to thunderstorms, the shrill winds will ring in your ears and the wildlife will become sparse.... or worse. The environment will fall apart around you, loose stones or trees will crash beside you and will make you jump. May the gods protect you.
conclusion
I recommend the game for everyone who loves creepy stories and likes to uncover the mysteries around them or who loves exploring the wilderness and finds satisfaction by seeing something interesting and new. If you only come for the farming you should probably find something else.
I bought this without reading anything. I think that made it WAY better because I legit had NO idea what was about to happen. Short but good. Skip to story mode, normal doesnt really offer anything other than spending more time gathering resources you ultimately dont need.
