I think all fun was just killed for me with this one. Played the demo, loved what I saw, bought the game. Had fun in solo mode for a couple of hours enough to have my wife buy the game and try it out in multiplayer, we made a game on a new save file (this is important for later). During the game we experienced some issues on her side, but its early access so we looked past most of them (she did not have the navigation bar up top, could not see the tutorial messages, could not see the 'new members' alerts, and could not remove stock from shelves but could put stock on shelves. All annoying but overall the game was still playable and it came with a warning that multiplayer still had some issues, so I figured, okay nbd we can still technically play) When the inability to remove things then started happening on the rewind station we decided to call it a night, i go to save the game and see that my original solo save file was gone. The quicksave during our multiplayer session overwrote my solo game entirely. Didn't know that would/could happen. I could look past a few of the minorly annoying quirks, like the restocking issues and mustaches bug that apparently has been here for months but isn't on the demo, etc etc, but having hours of gameplay gone from trying to introduce a new player due to a quicksave? Major mood killer. So unfortunate bc I really do love the game overall but that deeply sucked all joy from wanting to get back to it until it's more stable

I love simulator games, especially shop management games, so I originally picked this up expecting a retro video rental store simulator. But it's sooooo much more than that. There are so many little silly references, secrets, and random things to discover that I kept getting distracted from actually running my store. The world has a ton of personality, and there's way more to do than I expected. I was looking for something that wasn't just "Store Simulator #500" The art style is adorable, everything feels handcrafted, and even the sound design adds so much charm to the experience. Building up the store is fun, but exploring the town and finding all the weird little details and mini games is what really sold me on the game. It's still in Early Access, but I'm honestly impressed by how much content there already is. You can tell the developers have a clear vision and are putting a lot of love into it, Highly recommend this !!
First negative review, and as someone who has had fun with the game. I cannot say in current state to buy this game. ill keep it short because there's been a lot of flak coming the devs way that's def overblown. BUT the game is unplayable mid-late game, i have a pretty new computer and this game runs terribly even in single player. Waited months for performance updates that are coming late june, and i cannot refund 99 the game since the game becomes <10 frames post 5-8 hours , of course dependent on your computer and how fast you catch on. Until then, save your money for all the good games coming out this june,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Doug... oops, I mean the wonderful world of video stores that smell of the '90s. A trip back in time that leaves me with a bittersweet taste. I really like the graphic style, and the mini-games are clever. We appreciate being able to leave the video store and explore this city filled with activities. The multiplayer mode worked perfectly for me and my friend. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend purchasing it as it stands. First, I experience monstrous lags when I fill the shelves. It takes a good 20 seconds before I see the shelf fill up. Then, our employees are as dumb as donkeys. I took a little time to understand how the game works for restocking in the store. Everything is organized by category: videos by genre (Sci-Fi, Action, Family, Horror, etc.). So our employees, or rather our deadweights, will sort all the DVDs by genre. So the movies will be mixed but always in the same style. It can be bearable. Unfortunately, the other categories are more chaotic. Snacks encompass both beverages and treats. So it's impossible to create a pure beverage section. Our employees do not prioritize stock assortments. So we can end up with 120 bags of chips and zero popcorn all because the employee chooses to take all the stock of chips before the popcorn. And the storage situation is a living nightmare. Our employees are so foolish that they can't manage to store the same film in the same storage. I mean, in all the games, the AI tries to fill in the incomplete slots before storing in a new one. Here, well, the same film can end up with 3 videos on one shelf, 1 video on another, and 4 on a third. This game is quite fun to play, but honestly, without an update, it's better to avoid it.
The longer you play the more performance will suffer. As for multiplayer, it is incredibly broken. Needs some major updates for both performance and content before being playable.
Can't remove mustache
The gameplay loop is fun. Collecting various VHS cassettes for your rental collection, beating up people for late fees. The works. It feels like schedule I but you run a VHS rental store. The major issue arises as you further down the progression path. Currently, there are purchasable upgrades to the shop. Including unlocking a basement and rooftop access. These upgrades currently feel largely pointless as customers nor employees can reach them. Meaning you cannot use this spaces for even extra inventory storage. The only use the seem to be for are the various "side hustles" in the game, and even then you can only place 1 of each type and are limited to hustles that do not require customers to interact with. Seems like a large shortcoming that late game upgrades that should be game altering render to be useless. This game has great potential, and I hope the devs continue in their work.
ok I am going to have to give this a big Thumbs down right now. The game has something there BUT the many many bugs in the game ruin it completely. Side Hustles = does not work so your locked out of half the stuff that should unlock for you and dont. There is no way to level up your side hustle to purchase newer items. All current side hustle items still state 0 owned when you have one in the shop (and can only have 1, bought a 2nd of 2 items but would not let me place - maximum allowed in use already, but says 0 in use on stats. Customers never use them either. Restocking Issues - snacks/drinks/toys placed randomly on any shelf, so you can end up with these items being placed and mixed together on any shelf in the store. Restocking issue (videos) - once these have been returned the stockers do NOT replace on shelves in the shop, they place them on the storage shelves in the back. Its painful sorting all this out, that i have had no option but to sack the NPC's and the only thing thats working (as far as i know) is the checkouts (but i guess these may be bugged in some way) i just havent noticed it yet. With those is enough to more or less start to ruin this game for me and untill they do fix (if ever) this thumbs down review will have to remain).
