I just played through the demo. Here are my thoughts: Pro's -- Graphics are cute. -- Game play is good- I really liked the variety of items you could pick up, and the way in which you found them via trial and error, rather than making it obvious which objects were interactive. I didn't see a crafting system, which a game like this almost requires, but it was a very, very short demo so maybe there is something planned for future release. Con's -- I just spent 19 minutes playing a bully who verbally abuses his little sister for no obvious reason. The amount of hate this kid has with zero explanation is off-putting. This isn't normal sibling annoyance, but a child who just repeatedly says how much he hates his sister. And apparently, she's going to be the only thing stopping you from ritually sacrificing small animals torn from their nest of babies, so maybe you're just a sociopath? It's a shame that I could not be less interested in seeing any more of this main character, because the rest of the game had promise.

The good: + Cute/good visual, although few texture feels off + Soothing OST + OKish story/world building The bad: - Relative small UI/text on 1440p resolution The ugly: * Not enough direction/hint, such as you could get coconut by shaking tree * Interaction between Samantha and Will annoy me, although i don't like their Dad and god
(who suddenly ask for more offering)
either. * Demo only show small part of gameplay. At least there are few interesting mechanics such as giving treat or sing to animal. It's ok demo, but you could get better insight by read review of full game after it's released. I also wonder why the developer choose RPGMaker for gameplay-oriented game.
Really simple and fun harvest game. Excited to play the full game.
Awful game. Constant inane chatter between the characters. Just absolute rubbish, I quit after about 10 minutes. Also beware it goes to full screen on start-up…. Will not be buying this.
Will is a little punk, treating his sister like that. You call that a protagonist? I've beat up, and have had more respect for, antagonists that have better compassion than this nitwit. I can't play a game where a punk big brother treats his naive sister with that much disregard. Taking this game off my wishlist, too. Boooooooo
Harvest Island: Beginnings is a short, story-focused prologue that presents itself as a gentle farming experience while quietly laying the groundwork for something far more mysterious. Developed and published by Yobob, it introduces players to a secluded island where two siblings, Will and Samantha, live a routine life centered around agriculture, chores, and offerings to unseen gods. At first glance, it resembles a familiar, cozy simulation, but even in its earliest moments there is an undercurrent of unease that separates it from more traditional entries in the genre. The gameplay is intentionally simple, built around small daily tasks such as harvesting crops, feeding animals, and gathering materials. These activities are structured in a way that guides the player through the island, gradually revealing its layout and systems without overwhelming them. There is little in the way of difficulty or complexity, and progression is tied more to completing objectives than mastering mechanics. This makes the experience accessible and easy to settle into, though it also means that the gameplay loop can feel repetitive, especially given the limited scope of the prologue. What gives the game its identity is not its mechanics, but its atmosphere. The island feels isolated in a way that is both peaceful and unsettling, with its routines governed by rules that are never fully explained. The presence of mysterious gods—who must be appeased through offerings—adds a layer of tension that lingers beneath the surface of everyday activities. The contrast between the calm, almost idyllic presentation and the subtle hints of something darker creates a sense of quiet unease, encouraging players to question the nature of the world they are inhabiting. The narrative unfolds gradually, focusing on the relationship between Will and Samantha and their place within this isolated environment. Their interactions establish a sense of normalcy, though this normalcy begins to feel fragile as small details hint at a larger, more complex story. Dialogue can be simple and occasionally repetitive, but it serves to reinforce the routine nature of their lives, making the gradual introduction of mystery more effective. As a prologue, the story is not meant to provide answers, instead offering glimpses that build curiosity and set the stage for the full experience. Visually, the game uses a charming pixel art style that aligns with its farming simulation roots. The environments are bright and approachable, with clear design that makes navigation straightforward. This visual warmth contrasts with the underlying tone, subtly reinforcing the idea that appearances may be deceiving. The sound design complements this approach, maintaining a calm and understated atmosphere that supports the game’s pacing while allowing moments of tension to stand out more clearly. The main limitation of Harvest Island: Beginnings is its brevity. As an introduction rather than a complete experience, it offers only a small portion of what the full game aims to deliver. The mechanics are basic, and while they establish the foundation, they do not evolve enough to provide long-term engagement. Tasks can feel repetitive, and the lack of deeper systems or variation may leave some players wanting more. However, this simplicity is also part of its purpose, as the prologue is designed to introduce concepts rather than fully explore them. Despite its limited scope, the game succeeds in creating intrigue. It effectively balances familiarity with subtle tension, using its short runtime to establish a tone that is both inviting and slightly unsettling. The combination of routine gameplay and underlying mystery gives it a distinct identity, even if it does not fully develop its ideas within this initial segment. In the end, Harvest Island: Beginnings is best understood as a carefully constructed introduction. It does not aim to stand alone as a complete experience, but rather to draw players into a larger narrative by offering just enough detail to spark curiosity. While its simplicity and brevity may limit its impact on their own, they serve a clear purpose in setting the stage for what follows. For those interested in a farming game with a darker narrative edge, it provides a compelling starting point that leaves a lasting impression despite its modest scope. Rating: 7/10
