this is just plain bad. at one point i managed to remove the absolutely brain dead AI from the ring, and nothing would get them to respawn short of restarting the entire game. Frequently your hits will damage you instead of the AI. As far as I can tell, your commands are limited to WASD movement and the key to engage your weapon. The game tells you to press 'c' to use your weapon, but it seems it's actually 'e' but it doesn't work all the time, so maybe that's incorrect? 'C' does nothing. There's no menu option to view key bindings so good luck with that. There are 3 total vehicles you can use, 1 of which (throwup bot?) doesn't actually engage when you are under the opponent, rendering its only weapon useless. There is only one arena, and the hazards don't actually damage you or the AI. Obviously, no multiplayer. No progression or customization. The game costs $13 and you'll play it for 10 minutes. Avoid this game. My goodness, this was a bad one.

I regret giving this game a chance. It is really bad, broken physics, no cusomization other than 3 colors, nothing more than 3 robots, gameplay is bad, it's not like here on the trailer, the robots are very slow.
this is an early access game that hasn't been updated since its initial release, 3 bots 1 of which the flipper doesn't do anything, one opponent and one arena, bad physics, no key instructions apart from c to activate weapon ( its actually E), visually not bad but if you turn graphics up too high the bots will just fall through the floor and is unplayable. After 5 mins you've played through and nothing else to really do. feels more like a college project someone made and has forgotten about. Had potential.
Hard Steel is an indie mech-combat action game developed and published by Prestige Games that centers on fast-paced arena battles between heavily armored robotic machines. Instead of relying on an elaborate narrative campaign or deep role-playing mechanics, the game focuses on direct competition, environmental hazards, and survival-based combat. Its straightforward design embraces the spirit of classic arcade action, delivering a gameplay experience where skill, positioning, and quick decision-making determine victory. From the moment players enter the arena, Hard Steel makes its priorities clear. The objective is not to explore a large world or follow a complex storyline but to dominate the battlefield while avoiding the many dangers scattered throughout each map. Every match revolves around a simple but effective formula: survive, outmaneuver opponents, and use every available advantage to remain the last machine standing. This focused structure allows players to jump directly into the action without navigating lengthy tutorials or complicated progression systems. The robotic machines themselves are the centerpiece of the experience. These powerful mechanical warriors bring a satisfying sense of weight to every encounter. Movement feels deliberate, and each confrontation carries a sense of impact as machines collide, attack, and struggle for control of the battlefield. The game successfully captures the appeal of piloting a large combat machine, emphasizing durability and raw power while still requiring careful control and tactical awareness. Combat is easy to understand but surprisingly demanding. Success depends on more than simply attacking opponents. Players must constantly monitor their surroundings and react to changing conditions within the arena. Timing becomes critical, especially when multiple threats emerge simultaneously. A careless mistake can quickly turn a favorable situation into defeat, forcing players to stay alert throughout every match. One of the game's most distinctive features is its use of environmental hazards. The arenas are not passive settings where battles merely take place. Instead, they actively influence gameplay through traps and dangerous obstacles capable of eliminating players who are not paying attention. These hazards introduce an additional strategic layer because survival requires awareness of both enemies and the environment. In many situations, the arena itself can become as dangerous as any opposing robot. This design creates a unique dynamic where positioning is often just as important as offensive capability. Players must think carefully about where they move and how they engage opponents. A successful attack may force an enemy into a hazardous area, while poor positioning can leave a player vulnerable to both enemy attacks and environmental threats. This constant balancing act helps keep battles engaging and prevents encounters from becoming repetitive. The game's pacing is another notable strength. Matches move quickly, ensuring that players spend most of their time actively engaged rather than waiting for action to occur. The compact nature of the arenas keeps participants in close proximity, leading to frequent confrontations and a steady stream of tense moments. This arcade-inspired structure makes Hard Steel particularly appealing for short play sessions, where players can jump into a match and immediately experience the core gameplay loop. Visually, Hard Steel adopts a practical approach that prioritizes clarity over visual extravagance. The robotic designs are easy to distinguish, and the arenas are constructed in a way that keeps important hazards and opponents visible during combat. While the graphics are relatively modest compared to major mech-action franchises, they serve the gameplay effectively and help maintain a consistent industrial atmosphere. The challenge level can be surprisingly demanding. The game's own philosophy seems to embrace the idea that failure is part of the learning process. New players may initially struggle with the combination of enemy pressure and environmental hazards, but repeated play gradually builds familiarity with arena layouts and combat mechanics. This learning curve gives victories a satisfying sense of accomplishment and rewards players who invest time into mastering the systems. Another appealing aspect is the game's commitment to simplicity. Many modern action games attempt to retain players through extensive upgrade trees, cosmetic rewards, and numerous progression layers. Hard Steel instead relies on the inherent enjoyment of its core gameplay. Improvement comes primarily through player skill rather than unlockable advantages. This old-school approach may feel refreshing to players who prefer direct competition over long-term grinding. Although the game's scope is relatively modest, it remains focused on delivering exactly what it promises: intense robot battles within dangerous arenas. The combination of mechanical combat, environmental traps, and survival-oriented gameplay creates a distinctive experience that remains entertaining despite its simplicity. Players who enjoy arena-based action games and the fantasy of controlling powerful machines will likely find its gameplay loop satisfying. Hard Steel succeeds because it understands its strengths and avoids unnecessary distractions. It offers a concentrated dose of mechanized combat where every match is defined by quick reactions, strategic positioning, and environmental awareness. While it may not possess the depth or scale of larger mech franchises, it delivers an enjoyable arcade-style experience built around destruction, competition, and survival. Rating: 5/10
