It's great, but sadly not the easiest "recommend" for now, solely due to crashes. Changing the game version to "experimental" in properties didn't help either. The issue seems to be tied to one of the characters (Norseman) of a relatively versatile roster, so I'll keep using the other ones and playing anyway, but the fact that it's still in the game, though I've seen threads from weeks ago already highlighting it, is disappointing. Tried also turning off damage numbers, as well as making all the effects less visible: that helped me complete a full run finally, might be playable this way then, will see if that was a fluke or a consistent way to improve performance. Edit 1: nope, just a fluke, unlucky Edit 2: playing with the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥ settings in windowed mode actually worked I guess, I could actually play and complete all the missions with the character, after suffering infinite crashes I even obtained the achievements that require you to spawn fifty billion ice particles and weapon hits per second without issues.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Great fun. Worth the small price. Easy to learn, hard to master kind of game.
Fix your game devs, people haver been reporting exactly same crashes independently of how good hardware is. My game runs smoothly and still crashes, always at boss battles, when there is no enemies, just the boss.
Games are the last honest churches we have left—places where we willingly descend into the dark, arm ourselves with fragile power, and rehearse the eternal comedy of becoming something greater only to be reminded that the abyss always hungers more. Halls of Torment gets this on a bone-deep level. It’s a survivor-like that doesn’t just ride the Vampire Survivors wave; it drags it down into pre-rendered Diablo 1 hell and makes it bleed style. You choose your tormented soul—each with its own flavor of suffering—and step into cursed halls where the dead don’t stay dead and every run is a thirty-minute sermon on momentum. You actually aim and click to strike instead of pure auto-fire, which adds that delicious tension: one half of your brain is locked in the dance of positioning, the other is frantically choosing upgrades while the screen explodes into pixelated carnage. Build a lightning-slinging nightmare one run, a tanky summoner the next, then watch it all spiral into beautiful, screen-filling chaos as enemies swarm like they’ve got a personal grudge. The atmosphere is pure gothic sacrament. That old-school pre-rendered look, the moody lighting, the way the music swells as the horde thickens—it feels like crawling through the catacombs beneath Tristram while the Lords of the underworld laugh at your audacity. Quests, character progression, items you can send “up” to improve future descents—it all feeds this quiet philosophy of endless striving. You grow stronger, unlock new halls and horrors, flirt with godhood… then one mistimed dash or a boss with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hitboxes reminds you that no matter how stacked your build, the Torment always wins in the end. The dark humor is ever-present in the absurdity of it all. You’ll be feeling untouchable, raining death like some ascended legend, only for a random swarm to humble you in spectacular fashion. It’s irreverent and honest: we keep coming back to these digital hells because the grind feels meaningful, the power fantasy seductive, and the inevitable failure darkly funny. Some runs blur together in glorious repetition, but that’s the point. Life is the same loop dressed in better loot. Halls of Torment never pretends to be a flawless masterpiece. Balance has its tantrums, some grinds test your patience, and the late-game can feel oppressively tuned. But that imperfection is part of its charm. This is minimalist interactive art that respects your time while still demanding you earn every victory. In a sea of hollow live-service slop, it’s a focused, atmospheric descent that understands the real art of games is giving you just enough hope to keep walking back into the dark. 10/10 would descend into the Halls again tomorrow. Just one more run.
It doesn't really play as well as Vampire Survivors. Everything just feels like it's intended to be a grinding chore instead of genuinely fun.
The game starts off incredibly fun but takes a nose dive and crashes after you beat the 5th level. At this point in the game grinding for potions becomes mandatory as your trait pool becomes more bloated and levels become harder and without acquiring 30 unique equipment you can not unlock the last level, good thing you're not guaranteed to get either in a run! did I mention a full run takes around 40 minutes! best of all any artifacts like hastening sand and strange pendulum that would make this already very tedious task any less tedious are locked behind the very level you're trying to unlock. Every time I seem to pick up this game again all I seem to receive is a couple of unrewarding runs and the taste of wasted time
Dont quite get it. After a few runs, I still havent found any interesting upgrades that actually change how you build your character, save for one (increased damage with missing health). You find increase to crit, but nothing that synergizes with crit; increase to attack speed, area, movement speed, etc... but it's all just what it says on the tin; no interaction with any other effects (e.g. pro on crit), which is what this genre is all about.
I really wish I could give HoT a good review because it offers everything I want out of a roguelike. Unfortunately, the game crashes out of nowhere, and since there's no saving during runs that means a crash always kills the player's progress dead. That's doubly infuriating considering runs take typically take more than half an hour to complete, as you're just out all that time if a crash comes near the end. Turning down my settings helped for a bit but the game just crashed AGAIN when I was four minutes away from beating a stage I'd been trying for days to get past. Recommendation to avoid until a much more stable version is released.
