Hacknet is an immersive, terminal-based hacking simulator for PC. Dive down a rabbit hoIe as you follow the instructions of a recently deceased hacker, whose death may not have been the accident the media reports.

Reviews
Hacking media and tech sci-fi media in general, meant to appeal to the regular consumer, tends to be a stretch and, I you know anything more about the real subject that the said piece of media portrays, you'll have to be able to to suspend your disbelief to enjoy it. I couldn't. That's probably also why I felt that Serial Experiments: Lain is stupid and only people that pay for extra storage instead of cleaning their cloud like it.
Haven't seen the ending yet, will update later I guess, but the game itself has been fun so far, just frustrating at times so I'd recommend not going all elitist and thinking you're going to beat it without looking something up. update, towards the end of the game, it forces you to make so many assumptions and leaps in logic it's extremely frustrating and inexcusable. Good idea, terrible execution.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I basically no lifed this game for a day and understood how to type porthack multiple times in a row. if you want to get into linux (or python???) then this is a good starting point, the 'hacking tools' arent real but commands like ls cd rm are actually used irl and this way you get comfortable with them. i do recommend to play this game if your knowledge is 0 but its also fun to test your knowledge if you are skilled.
pretty neat game to feel like a hacker.
Its a semi sandbox puzzle game. The game is very good at giving the illusion that there is a lot of ways to approach a task, but theres not. The puzzles are cool and they don't give you the anwser for free. the story is alright. Cheap fun, get it on sale.
I remember playing this over lunch break on my PC and enjoying it quite some time ago. Lots of reading and typing, but some legit terminal-based storying.
I enjoy this one. I'll be showing my employees who are attempting their CEH this one. Wish I found it earlier on but better late than never, eh?
