Weirdly fun and memorable. I wish this game were more popular, it deserves it. Definitely a hidden gem.

Gunpoint is a short and sweet stealth game that's around 80% puzzle, 20% action. You're a private investigator who infiltrates various restricted areas by remotely hacking security systems. For example, instead of a motion detector triggering an alarm when activated, you can rewire it to open a locked door instead. The puzzle lies in the variety of security devices that can be creatively rewired to work in your favor -- mostly to manipulate or incapacitate security personnel -- and the order of which you execute these hacks. There are numerous ways for a player to accomplish his/her goal on each level. Sneaking past security is as viable as neutralizing all threats on the map. One can even unlock a gun and the ability to literally kick down doors if they wanted to go loud. With the more aggressive play styles, the game rewards the player's fast reflexes, hence the "20% action" classification above. The story is convoluted to an almost absurd degree given the context of short puzzle game. It involves selecting dialogue options and branching story arcs. The was a time when one of the main character's dialogue options was to break the fourth wall and reply "I lost track of this story several levels back..." I personally wasn't invested in the plot, but given the gameplay driven nature of this game, it didn't have a significant impact on my enjoyment of this title. Overall, Gunpoint is fun 4-7 hour puzzle game with interesting gameplay mechanics. I recommend picking it up on sale, forgetting about it, then loading it up as a palate cleanser after finishing a more complicated game with a much longer play time.

While I got this game on sale, I would pay full price for this game in hindsight. Brilliant dialogue with some great gameplay. The gameplay makes me feel like a spy with all of the cool gadgets in the game. 100%ing the game took me just over six and a half hours and I thoroughly enjoyed all of it. This game won't leave you with any new outlook on life but I don't think that's the goal. I would give the game a 7.5/10 and would absolutely recommend it.
