UPDATE: Unfortunately as of October 16, 2018, Dracue Software is suffering some things and you cannot get this legally now... Kinda sad to know. The game is an absolute blast, only configure your controller through the in-game options and there you go! I'm using a Wii Classic Controller Pro and is absolutely a fun game, I remember playing the game on my Vita (Since it's on the PSP) and is absolutely one of the best, I don't really know (by now) if the game is some sort of SpinOff to the "Assault Suit" series. Anyway, sadly no one aside from the guys that buyed it will see it, but I will gladly receive it back and start supporting even more, the game truly deserves the best, very low PC needed and a lot of fun out of it!
It definetly looks like a fun game, but the PC optimization is pretty bad. The controls are a mess and the main screen is even difficult to get past. If you can figure out how to use a controller I would say go for it.

Jerma985 is a Liar.
Reminds me of classic games like Cybernator and ESWAT but never reaches same height as those titles. Gunhound EX is a sidescrolling shooter with elements of bullet-hell and a some platforming sections. As this is a straight port from the original PSP version without much of an overhaul, there are several gripes I had with the title: - Graphic modes are not optimized. Meaning that you may very well get a black screen or slowdown when switching to fullscreen. The only way I could play the game without hitches was with the small screen size mode with a wallpaper in the background. Even then I envountered the occassional framerate drop when things got a bit hectic. - Controls are not customizable and pretty much unplayable with a keyboard. YOU NEED A CONTROLLER for this game no questions about it. - You can unlock and customize your Mech's weapons but only from the main menu; meaning that you can't change your loadout before a mission without quiting to the main menu first! (WTF??!) - Controls are convoluted and take a lot of getting used to. I was struggling with them until the very end of the game. It was only on a second playthrough that I got a grip on movement and weapons control. - Not counting the final boss, there are only 5 levels that won't last more than ~10-15 minutes each. They are definitely varied and almost all of them are exciting to play through which makes it kind of sad and unsatisfying when it's all over too soon. - Most of the unlocked weapons are kind of useless and not fun to play around with. Considering the fact that you'll need millions upon millions of score points in order to unlock them all, you're in for a heck of a lot grinding of the limited number of levels. There is a LOT of grinding involved. - Story is run of the mill and an unsalvageable mess that never becomes remotely interesting. - Zero-G movement controls are a CLUNKY MESS!! - The graphics look pretty solid for what they are and some larger-than-life boss battles are definitely the highlights of the game. Since Dracue (the developers behind the game) are no more operational and the game has ceased to be available on Steam, I wouldn't mind giving this game an overall thumbs down because it's a lazy port of a handheld game even though it's functional and does have some exciting moments sprinkled about its very short duration, it's ultimately not so much of a good game on PC. If you find it for free somewhere though and have a liking towards mech sidescrollers, give it a glance. Otherwise, you haven't missed much.
RIP The game has been removed from the Steam Store due to, and I quote: "temporary suspension of operations of DRACUE Co., Ltd" Keyword is "temporary", which implies the game may come back in the future...? Either way, as of Feb 2, 2019 it is no longer available on Steam. Owners of the game still own it indefinitely and can uninstall and reinstall as much as possible. But it can no longer be purchased. Good thing we have piracy! I haven't actually checked if there are even torrents of it, but its a good case for preserving video games through cracking them. For those of you that are fans of doing things legally, there *STILL EXISTS* a legal way to get this game: https://www.dlsite.com/soft/work/=/product_id/VJ004384.html See, Armored Hunter Gunhound EX is an upgrade to...well, Armored Hunter Gunhound. The EX version was an upgrade that was released on the PSP and given as a FREE UPGRADE TO OWNERS OF ARMORED HUNTER GUNHOUND on PC. The EX version was later released on Steam. See how that works? If you want to legally own this you can buy the original and then go to the developer website to get the EX version. You'll be playing what Steam owners are playing. Just be prepared to pay around 45 USD for the original (way too pricey imo). More info on the PCGaming Wiki pages for EX and the original. But is this game worth it? All that trouble? Not really. Is it worth pirating? Yes. Would I pay for it if it were still available? Last I recall it sold for under 15 dollars, so yes. Gunhound EX is a fairly simple game in objective. It's a side scrolling action game (Megaman, Metal Slug, Contra) where you control a mech. Just as you'd expect, the mech controls a little 'heavy'; turning isn't immediate, landing is done with a thud, and shooting and aiming isn't as fast as if you were holding a gun with bare hands. You move and control as if you were actually inside a heavy machine, but it isn't so slow as to be cumbersome and irritating. This is actually my biggest compliment to the developers; usually we fail to see small things done correctly that, if accomplished differently would drastically reduce the competency of the final product. Gunhound controls as a mech should whilst doing so in a responsive and quick manner so as to allow the player to handle all incoming obstacles promptly. You move like a mech, but you don't move like sh*t. Which, realistically, mechs should. The mech itself handles somewhat like the old Contra games: there's a button to lock your aiming to whatever direction it is currently in, which allows you to move forward and backwards without changing the direction of your shots (aiming and moving is relegated to the same stick). You also switch between your main weapon and an improved missile system that doles out larger damage. A melee attack dispenses of any dangers nearby. The boost system allows you to fly for short period of time and the dash button does as advertised. The levels consist of light platforming and lining up shots with enemies. There's typically an objective to every mission, whether it be an escort or a straight level completion. What keeps the game fresh is the creativity the developer took with what you do in each level. In one you're rolling down a hill, in another you're fighting around a battleship and taking out its parts. Its the level creativity that keeps this game fresh from level to level. The levels themselves are on the shorter side, which is perfect with me. The bosses have unique attack patterns that take a lot of movement to get past and master. Luckily, the game is very forgiving with infinite lives, at the cost of your entire score. Anyone can pass this, but it takes competence to not die. And passing it is fairly quick. That's one of the downsides: this game presents you a large mission screen but you won't be playing this for long to finish it. I finished it in a day, and I'm the type that idles in menus and takes his time with games. But given that the dev team consisted of two whole programmers and one guy doing the stages, levels, planning, and scenario writing you sort of get the picture. Matter of fact there were more voice actors (6) than people actually working on the game. This is one of "those" games. The "one programmer" type games. In the end the story concludes appropriately and nothing feels amiss. Just like Portal, this game is short but it also doesn't feel incomplete. Just really damn short. The ideas that this game has are tried for one level and that's about it. As an example: in the tutorial you try out zero-g movement; in the game it's only present for around 3 minutes towards the end of the final level. It's conceived, its formulated adequately, its tried for a couple of minutes in the game, and we move on to the next level. Everything here is short enough to feel fresh but also experienced in full to not feel incomplete. But because of its crazy short length I can't see this as being anything more than average at best, and below-average at worst. That's actually really good because of how well such a short experience manages to be, or a shame depending on how you look at things. I'd tell anyone reading this to try it out, but you can't unless you can find a torrent or legally purchase it in the above mentioned manner. I wouldn't go out of my way to try it, but I would spend 10 or so dollars on it if it ever comes back up on Steam or some other digital distributor.
Have a free like that no one will ever see. Not sure why this is Mixed.
Not sure what to call this Genre, Cybernator-like? Anyway Gunhound EX is one of the best representatives of the Mech platformers I've played so far. Maybe not the best PC port, but the game itself is pure gold. Tight atmosphere, challenging missions, good mech customization and pretty nice controls when you accustom yourself to constant switching of the weapon sybsystems. Gentle advice: dont configure attack buttons and jumping behind the same finger, you really need to be able to press both simultaneously to excel at this game.NOTE: Win10/Nvidia does seem to have compatibility issues, but got it running no problem disabling steam overlay and fullscreen optimizations from exe properties.
You just have to trust me, but if you'll play Metal Warriors on SNES, you'll get a far superior experience to this. (or just go play Front Mission: gun hazard cuz that's what this is ripping off, also check Valken series)
