I like to believe I played a handful of Metroidvania games, those with certainly more complex mechanics, and deeper content, and some that are debatably more artsy. Saying this, it is always nice to go back to the basics and play some of the simpler ones, much like I did with Kalinur. Playing through it helped me recap the fundamentals of what makes good Metroidvania games, such as:

Enemies with readable attack patterns
Platforming challenges to overcome
Useful abilities (even if the abilities you earn in this game, like double jump or being able to dash while midair may not seem any special, it is still impactful for how they made the gameplay easier and useful to access places you couldn't otherwise get to)
Good progression
Maps with easy navigation
Rewards for taking optional paths
If you're new to Metroidvania games, Kalinur is a solid entry into the genre. P.S. If you have any other ideas of what makes a game a Metroidvania one that I may have missed mentioning, feel free to comment about it.

This game was fun! (for the price) It is dead simple. There are basically no secrets, and nothing out of the ordinary in this game at all. It's almost as if it was intended to be as generic as possible. But sometimes that's not such a bad thing. After playing through Prince of Persia Lost Crown, an ultra simple and incredibly easy Metroidvania was kind of welcome. I also liked that the attack happens instantly and as fast as you can press the button. This made it fun to play with an autofire controller. The game really does feel like you're back in the NES days. Anyway, I do recommend it - if it sounds like something you're into. If you want a big meaty game to occupy you for many hours, this will not deliver on that. But it's fun if you are in the mood to beat a fast and easy game.
Lightweight 2-3 hour Metroidvania, but quite fun for that amount of time. Not very difficult. Any reviews that complain about "lack of healing" are by people who suck at this kind of game. I mean they have to SERIOUSLY suck to complain about that. I think I died 3-5 times total and got all achievements.
