I have never had a psychedelic experience, but I can imagine how the experience might feel like by playing GRIS. I don't say this solely because of the indescribably beautiful set of colors and world-making of the game... which often feels like a peek into the complexity of our inner worlds. I say this mostly because of how there are, supposedly, good and bad trips; especially in psychedelic therapy. The protagonist, as I understand, faces grief of losing her mother and the game is a journey of despair and healing. Every chapter in the game is wonderfully imbued in a specific color and, to me, each feels like a step in battling one's dark thoughts and sunken-ness: brokenness coupled with loneliness, flight coupled with helplessness, and depression coupled with confusion. However, towards the end the protagonist, in her journey, gains her voice which, when sung, marvellously brings life to her surroundings and... maybe, to her own self, as she approaches hope and the joy of commemoration of her mother. Both the good and the bad trips, in the end, result in a reformed self that is able to say goodbye. And, in the process the game magnificently captures the miraculousness of the human experience itself. The protagonist traverses imaginary realities that almost transcend one's self and bring ego-dissolution as you have to be one with your surroundings in solving puzzles that life throws at you in the process.
The game amazes not only with its visual style, but also with its meaning — I empathized with the girl throughout her entire journey. The sculptures are absolutely stunning. P.S. When I first encountered the eel, I fell off my chair))))

depression is described so well that you can't help but understand the character even without faced the problem yourself
Best example of games as art.
GRIS is an absolute masterpiece, slightly challenging in a good way. I've had it in my library for years as something I will eventually get around to. I am so glad I FINALLY got around to it! Definitely recommend it at full price, on sale it's an absolute steal
