This is the true sequel to Greed: The Mad Scientist (the second in the series, Greed 2: Forbidden Experiments, is an unrelated aberration). It features slightly improved gameplay as the first Greed, for example you can further examine some objects. Otherwise it's pretty much the same average graphics quality and simplistic animation. The problem is that it is very, very short. I finished it in less than two hours on the highest difficulty. Also, it just doesn't make a lot of sense: from the very beginning the point-and-click puzzles seem arbitrary. If you really enjoyed the first Greed, then this would be nice little bonus adventure. I think everyone else could easily skip it.
Pro: Voiceover sounds good and matches the characters No spelling errors in the german translation, so no problem finding hidden objects Good fullscreen resolution, easy to distinguish between background and Objects No logical faulty puzzles A good amount of HO-Scenes Con: Expert mode beaten in exactly 65 minutes, which is not enough for a 7 Bucks game. As usually w/ Hidden Object Games: Not enough content to justify the 7 Bucks pricetag. But if you like HO gabes and it's up for sale or in a bundle, buy it.
Genre
Ein Hidden Object Adventure
Story

Follow Main group
 Follow Second group
 Follow third group
while this is the third and final installment I have to admit it's not the best one. Don't get me wrong, it was enjoyable just not spectacular. I played it more because I like to know how stories end.and I was in the mood for easy play. That is what all three of these games were. No brain strain, just a nice little game . Glad I played.
I honestly thought that I accidentally turned on a Bonus game in my H.O.G... IT'S THAT SHORT! But it wasn't a Bonus game... I suppose this is the third in the game series... However... The story is... Very much not there. You can speed through the game rather quickly as there are no penalty on the H.O. either. Where the first one had a clutter of items, this one is neat and barely has any items at all. One item is re-used... 5x I believe. You use a gun to shoot a damn droid that you can just freaking use the net on! I mean in RL you could surely do that! But shall we use the gun on the bad guy? Naw, don't use the gun on him... Just throw an item at him! He'll just stand there and wait for the cops to come. It'll be fine. Actually you don't even get that. IT ENDS ABRUPTLY. And that ending screen is hilarious... Because all the people you saw/talked to... Were all copy n pasted in there... They didn't even let the injured guy get up... XD Poor thing is still down on the floor... While all the others just standing and staring at you. This game was quick, hilarious and I had fun with it. Other people may not like it, but I was certainly entertained. Hah! XD :D
"Greed 3: Old Enemies Returning puts you, once again, into the shoes of the detective, Amy Turner, and brings you back to the place where everything had begun... the Pontoon Laboratory. However, several "ghostly beings" have been haunting the workers who are involved in the restoration of the lab, causing freak accidents and making any progress impossible. Due to this, the lab will be demolished instead. In an effort to preserve her father's crucial research and cure which supposedly can heal all ailments, Sara, the daughter of Dr Goodwin (the lead researcher at the burned-down lab), needs your help to investigate what's causing all these ghostly sightings, solve the problem/s, and to help the workers who are trapped while you're there." ------------------------------------- A fairly short and disappointing end to the trilogy (I think it's a trilogy?), Greed 3: Old Enemies Returning didn't bother to find a way to link up the stories from the first and second parts of the series, opting to only continue where we left off in the first part while completely ignoring the events in the first sequel... though admittedly, the stories in Greed 1 and 2 seem quite far apart from each other and may actually require some sort of twist to bring both sides together. I actually held out a bit of hope since the game started out pretty strong and I thought the game will connect the cure with the mysterious Oracles (in Greed 2) somehow... but nope, I can't say that the story, despite ending on a positive note, is any good here. There are some repeated puzzles here but there's also some new ones, so I guess that's an improvement. They have added another hidden object mode (
the first aid kit scene
), which is also a good thing although that mode only appears once. The game's rather short too. Even if I didn't use any hints to skip the puzzles, it probably wouldn't last more than 1 hour and a half.
Watch me play!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLX-JGiQJGw
Some pros, mehs and cons
Pros + Added one new HO mode - finding objects that are related to a topic/theme rather than individual words, but they have omitted all the other HO modes introduced in Greed 2. + Some new puzzles added... well, they are actually derived from the previous puzzles but still, it's an improvement. Still has a few repeats though. + Backtracking has been cut down drastically. Instead of having to go back several "environments", you just need to go back 1 or 2 at most. Meh +/- Voice acting is okay. +/- HO scenes are repeated at most twice, which is okay in my books. Cons/ Issues with the game - A ending that's hugely disappointing despite ending on a positive note. - No difficulty levels to choose from. - The game starts with an intro video that I don't think makes any sense. - Characters' mouths aren't animated when "speaking" in the game. - A missed opportunity to add in a jigsaw puzzle - the part when you've gathered all the fragments of a document. - I've noticed that it can be hard to spot "interactive areas" in the environment. Sometimes, the areas don't have sparkles for some reason. This usually ended up with me using a hint (or more). - There's a really stupid part in the game where you need to
use a muffin to stuff a broken pipe that was spewing steam
. This is completely illogical and ridiculous, and frankly, if I wasn't desperate (and had nothing else to try with), I would probably have not gotten the solution.
Overall
Like before, although the game does have a lot more negatives than positives, I still think that the game is a decent HOG if you just want to look for some hidden objects without caring too much about the storyline or even bothering to solve the puzzles. However, I would not recommend buying this game anywhere near its full price - it's just not that good. If you can get it as part of a super duper cheap bundle, then it's an okay deal.
Greed 3: Old Enemies Returning, developed by Urchin Games and published by HH-Games, serves as the closing chapter of a trilogy rooted in the hidden object adventure genre. It delivers a familiar blend of puzzle-solving, item hunting, and narrative progression, structured in a way that will feel immediately recognizable to fans of casual adventure titles. Rather than attempting to redefine the genre, it focuses on providing a cohesive and story-driven experience that ties together the events of the previous entries. The narrative centers once again on Dr. Goodwin’s experimental cure, a discovery that has attracted dangerous attention and sparked conflict throughout the series. In this installment, old adversaries return, pushing the story toward its conclusion within the mysterious confines of Pontoon Laboratories. The setting combines elements of science fiction and light supernatural intrigue, creating an atmosphere that is slightly darker than many comparable games. While the plot follows familiar genre patterns—secret experiments, hidden agendas, and looming threats—it maintains enough momentum to carry the player from one sequence to the next. Gameplay adheres closely to the traditional hidden object formula. Players explore static environments, searching for items that are either directly listed or required to solve environmental puzzles. These sequences are interspersed with a variety of mini-games, including logic puzzles, pattern recognition challenges, and simple mechanical interactions. The structure is steady and predictable, with each solved puzzle leading naturally into the next objective. This creates a smooth progression that rarely feels confusing, making the game accessible even to those with limited experience in the genre. One of the game’s strengths is its pacing. The transition between hidden object scenes and puzzle segments is handled well, preventing the experience from becoming too repetitive in the short term. Objectives are generally clear, and the game avoids overly obscure solutions that could stall progress. However, this accessibility also results in a moderate level of difficulty that may feel unchallenging for more experienced players. Many of the puzzles rely on familiar patterns, and while they are functional and engaging, they rarely introduce new ideas that significantly alter the gameplay. The visual presentation supports the game’s tone effectively. Environments are detailed and layered, providing enough visual density to make hidden object sequences engaging without becoming overwhelming. The laboratory setting, in particular, contributes to a sense of mystery, with dimly lit corridors, unusual machinery, and subtle supernatural elements creating a slightly tense atmosphere. While the art style is polished, it remains within the conventions of the genre, prioritizing clarity and functionality over stylistic innovation. Audio design complements the visuals with a subdued and atmospheric approach. Background music reinforces the sense of mystery without drawing too much attention to itself, and sound effects provide subtle feedback during interactions. While not particularly memorable, the audio contributes to the overall cohesion of the experience and helps maintain immersion throughout the game. Despite its solid foundation, the game’s limitations become more noticeable over time. The core gameplay loop—searching for items, solving puzzles, and advancing the story—remains largely unchanged from beginning to end. While the variety of mini-games helps break up repetition, the underlying structure does not evolve significantly. This can lead to a sense of familiarity that reduces long-term engagement, particularly for players who are well-versed in hidden object adventures. Additionally, the game’s scope is relatively contained. As a concluding chapter, it focuses on resolving the story rather than expanding its systems or introducing major new features. This results in a concise experience that provides closure but does not offer much in the way of extended replayability. Minor technical issues or inconsistencies may also appear, though they generally do not detract significantly from the overall experience. In the end, Greed 3: Old Enemies Returning is a competent and well-structured entry in the hidden object genre that succeeds by delivering a consistent and accessible experience. It does not push boundaries or introduce groundbreaking ideas, but it fulfills its role as a narrative conclusion effectively. For players who enjoy this style of gameplay, it offers a satisfying and cohesive adventure, even if it remains firmly within the genre’s established framework. Rating: 7/10
