Gravitee is a game made by the indie dev, SightAfter.
It's just basic drifting
The game revolves around the main concept of moving by rotating the level. This can lead to either really annoying gameplay or badass drifting depending on how the levels are formatted. In Gravitee's case almost every single level (exceptions later) has that replayability factor that makes you come back for better stats. You play by one of the two control methods available, by moving your mouse or using A and D to rotate. For extra control, during the game you can increase or decrease sensitivity by using the scroll wheel or W and S. The controls are really simple and easy to pick up and use, and they also allow for complex gameplay when you're switching between sensitivities.
Only 40 levels?
As I'm writing this, the game currently has 40 levels which can all be completed in about 7-13~ hours. But there is of course a collectable in the form of a coin. Each level has 3 coins ranging from an extension of the main level to the hardest thing you will ever see and spend over an hour on it. Almost every coin (exceptions later) is a fun challenge that can be completed without having to replay the main level over and over. And if anything is too difficult, just move on and come back to it later. The coins are there to keep you coming back after you beat all the levels, and it works really well.
More challenges to the rage game.
The achievements were the highlight for me. When I first encountered them, they looked straight up impossible. Now after completing all 25 of them, I can say I want more. All the challenge achievements are just completing the level with a twist, e.g. 'complete level 19 without touching the walls', they can all be beaten with relative effort. And they all result in satisfaction once you reach the end.
Visuals? Sound?
Visuals aren't really the main focus here, gameplay is. With that being said, the game isn't ugly by any means, nor can get crowded and you lose focus. The contrasting colours for each object really sells the visuals as not much design is used (lvl34 Jagged exception). The music is good at best even considering it was made by a whopping two people. The couple songs loop every level and are warped to fit gameplay elements, e.g. quiet in blindness, reversed in confusion and slowed in nausea. Sound effects do their job and aren't anything special, but this doesn't detract from the game though. If you don't like it, go to settings and mute it, for the most time I just put on Spotify.
Here's some constructive feedback
There's not a whole lot I can complain about, the dev listens to the community and the game is still new. But there are still exceptions. First off, level 28 'Pandora's boxes' specifically the first coin, but the whole level is terrible. I know someone else complained and you updated it, but it needs some more rework or just delete it entirely. Besides that, the only other complaint is level 22 'Breakthrough' it's third coin is literally impossible, consider making it 1-2 boxes shorter. SightAfter, I know you are probably reading this so please take it with a very large grain of salt.
Should you buy?
If you like this style of game, yes 100%. Gravitee is an absolute steal for $1.50 AUD and kept me entertained and coming back for 40 hours. Even if you are not trying to complete every achievement like me and are playing casually, you will still find a great amount of enjoyment out of this.
Need help?
I am the first person to upload every level to YouTube Check it out here Previous review If you like to have a reason to smash your keyboard, this is the game for you, one of the hardest games I've ever played. Easy to understand concept with really good controls, execution and progression. For the life of me I can't get past level 24 which seemed like a massive jump in skill but as any difficult game goes, it is a skill issue. Hope you find more success in sales, if I didn't win the giveaway for this game, I would have bought it :)
Simple two-button gameplay with momentum-based challenges, checkpoints, no time limits, and tough achievements. The gameplay is straightforward because you only need two buttons to move the screen left or right. The ball in the center responds to in-game gravity, which is much more forgiving than real-world physics, preventing it from simply falling straight down. Most challenges revolve around momentum, so getting used to how the ball moves is key. Your main goal is to navigate through a series of obstacles and follow wall-mounted arrows that guide you to the exit. Some stages feel like mazes, but there's no time limit, and as long as you stick with the arrows, you won’t get lost. Various obstacles influence the ball in different ways. There are bouncy walls, speed-boosting bananas, and deadly spikes that kill you. Luckily, checkpoints are available so you don’t have to restart an entire stage from the beginning after failing. In addition to reaching the goal, each level hides three golden marbles tucked away behind tough challenges that often take longer to beat than the entire stage. These sections have a marking on the walls so you know what to expect. Marbles are collectible items that let you unlock cosmetic outfits for your ball. They don’t offer gameplay advantages, just visual flair. The game features 35 levels that must be completed in order. New mechanics and obstacles are introduced every few stages to keep things interesting. If you ever need a refresher, the main menu includes a guide to all obstacles and their effects. There are also achievements to unlock, though they can be tough. Some require completing levels without dying or within a time limit, and you’ll have to do both in all stages for rarest achievements. All in all, the game is cheaper than a cup of coffee and offers plenty of content for players ready to take on the challenge.
this game is very good! i really like the concept of rotating the screen to direct the ball, it reminds me of those marble mazes or perplexuses, which i am VERY fond of. this game takes that concept to the EXTREME, introducing a lot of mechanics that are interesting and mostly fun. the only problem i have with this is that some levels significantly lack in enjoyability (looking at you, 28) than others. levels like 18 and 19 flow really smooth, which, i love when things flow smooth, but some levels with nausea and boxes like 28 ruin the flow of the game for me. that doesn't mean this game is horrible by any means, though! there are a lot of good things about this game too, such as, well, the levels that DO flow smoothly! they are INSANELY satisfying to pull off; if you've played games like celeste and pizza tower, you would know. i just hope there is a level editor coming soon, that would be awesome! i have so many level ideas in mind! very good game for its price, do buy :D
Remember Sandlot Games' Slyder games? It was a neat little top-down maze puzzle game where you control the titular ball and try and make him reach the exit while avoiding obstacles. It got a sequel called Slyder Adventures which seemed to be inspired by the Taito game Cameltry/On the Ball. And this game seems to be a spiritual successor of the latter. And I love it. With this and Considerable Grandfather being a spiritual successor to the Lode Runner-inspired Super Granny, we really seem to be in a age of Sandlot Games spiritual successors.
as someone that doesn't really play 2d platformers, i had a ton of fun in this game. played for about an hour without even realising. its fairly challenging even from the early levels. but i'd attribute my own struggles as plain and simple "skill issue" :D solid game. worth the price for sure
If your looking for something to fill the void of the "shockwave" style games that filled so many empty hours at work/college/school in the early 2000's then Gravitee is definitely the game for you. From the addictive "one more go" gameplay, to the twinkly tunes tooting in the background, Gravitee has certainly tapped into what made those simple games so enjoyable.
This game is so fun. I become very addicted now.
You move the ball by rotating the world and letting gravity do its thing, while facing a lot of obstacles and traps, it's pretty fun but I'd imagine some people could get dizzy from it.
it is such a good game that I cant stop playing someday I will platinum it I hope you make another such a wonderful good game again I will definitely play it.
Really fun and challenging gravity puzzler! I played for 30 minutes and only got to level 8 out of 35 and had a good time learning each new mechanic and working out the best way to complete the level. Also, in every level is 3 different challenges to grab the golden marbles that unlock different looks for your character. Each one takes the mechanics you learn and puts the difficulty up which is basically a mini level in itself. For only a dollar, the game has a lot of content to get through if you like a challenging puzzler!
