I went into Grass Gnome Golf thinking, “Okay, cute gnomes, chill vibes, probably a fun afternoon.” I came out the other side emotionally changed, spiritually grounded, and fully convinced that golf was always meant to be played by tiny garden custodians. Also, and I cannot stress this enough, my friend Joey loved it. Joey loved it so much that at one point I thought he might legally change his name to Joey the Gnome. From the very first swing, you can tell this game is special. The mouse-controlled swing feels absurdly real. Like, “why am I adjusting my wrist posture in my living room” real. Every shot feels earned. Every whiff feels personal. Joey loved that. Joey absolutely loved that. He kept saying, “This feels like actual golf but without the emotional damage,” which honestly should be on the box. The world itself is gorgeous in that cozy, nature-core, birds-chirping-like-they’re-on-payroll way. No machines. No noise. Just grass, sky, and the quiet pressure of knowing Joey loved every single blade of grass. He wouldn’t stop talking about the bluegrass soundtrack. “This music gets me,” Joey said. He said it a lot. Playing with friends turns Grass Gnome Golf into a comedy showcase. Exploring on foot, hopping into a golf cart, wandering the Clubhouse, all of it is delightful. Joey loved hosting. Joey loved joining. Joey loved standing next to the ProShop counter like it was a sacred altar. Joey loved browsing the gnome-made maps. Joey loved that there were so many maps. Joey loved that there will be more maps. Joey loved knowing future Joey will also love these maps. The customization is absurdly good. Quick practice run? Full adventure? You got it. Joey loved tweaking the settings. Joey loved not tweaking the settings. Joey loved that the option existed. Joey loved that the game respected his time but also happily consumed hours of it. By the end of the night, we were tired, laughing, and weirdly relaxed. Grass Gnome Golf delivers the real-golf feeling in the most unreal, charming way possible. It is sincere. It is cozy. It is way better than it has any right to be. Final verdict: I loved it. Everyone loved it. But Joey? Joey loved it.
