Grandpa's Bee Haven is a cozy entry into the desktop overlay genre. It sits unobtrusively at the bottom of your screen while you're doomscolling on the internet or pretending to be productive. Or if that's not your thing, then toggle the "Enable Full Screen Sky" option in the settings! Either way a peaceful and relaxing experience of managing your beehives, strategizing the placement of greenery and reaping the passively generating resources at your own comfortable pace. The development team deserves credit for taking criticism very well while transitioning from the playtest to full release. Several key improvements and suggested adjustments were made very quickly. Seeing the team react constructively and take feedback immediately into consideration or for further internal discussions reveals a lot of their commitment and care for the game. It's charming, lightweight, and backed by developers who are willing to listen to their community. Thanks!

Grandpa’s Bee Haven is a chill idle simulator designed to run along the bottom of your screen. It lets you passively manage a mini apiary without interfering with your workflow, making it a sweet background distraction while studying, working, or watching videos. The game offers a surprising amount of detail for a cozy idler. You aren't just watching numbers go up - you're actively setting up hives, managing watering stations, harvesting wax, and using equipment like solar melters. As your farm expands, you can unlock new bee species, clear land, decorate your garden, and hire helpful companions like Grandma or a Scientist to assist with chores. Pros: Sits neatly under active windows, lovely pixel art style, grounded beekeeping mechanics, and very relaxing. Cons: Slow idle pacing means it might feel too passive if you prefer active, high-intensity strategy games. Final Verdict: A wholesome, charming screen companion for multitaskers and cozy sim fans.

Найбільше зайшло, що можна грати й працювати одночасно: пасіка живе внизу екрана, а ти час від часу повертаєшся до своїх бджіл. Затишна атмосфера, приємний візуальний стиль і поступовий розвиток господарства добре допомагають розвантажити голову. Із мінусів, хоча це суто моє побажання: хотілося б мати можливість піднімати вікно гри трохи вище на екрані. Мені так було б зручніше. Загалом рекомендую тим, хто любить спокійні ігри без зайвої метушні 🍯

Played the demo a lot and had a lot of fun. it even partially goes along with playing helldivers or dark souls at the same time^^ high recommendation. its a good chill desktop game with a cute design and lots of bees :)

[/i] [h1] Sweet Little Idle Sim: 97.5%[/h1] Grandpa’s Bee Haven is a sweet little game about apiculture starring a mixed cast, but beginning with Grandpa. The game is an idle game that takes up the bottom portion of your screen. This is the first one of these types of games that I’ve ever had, and I was worried about it being intrusive, but thanks to their options it mostly runs in the background until I remember to click on it. I do enjoy it being out in front, however, as the little bees float around my second monitor happily (this option can be turned off). The customization of how it interacts with your desktop is very well thought out. I also appreciate that if I want to interact with it while I’m relaxing to YouTube or having an ADHD moment, I have stuff to do on it other than planting boxes and plants and can click on any alerts the bees have for me, click on the windmill for a small bonus of cash per click, or chase rats for random bonuses. Finally, while I’m interested in beekeeping in general, I also really love that I can add to the décor through useful flowers for my buzzing friends or trees for them to eventually go rogue and make nests in! The game makes for a neat little fidget toy that makes no noise that my housemate will need to flee to a non-extradition country due to me using it (my physical one clicks), and it’s a very aesthetically pleasing. I don’t know if the developers will add onto it by making new farm types, hives, or other decorations, but as it sits now I would say that the game is [i]easily[/i] worth a sale price, and would even make a good argument it’s worth the current asking price of 6.99USD (as of the time of this review). 39/40~ [h1] The Numbers [/h1] [u]Gameplay: 10[/u] 5 – The gameplay’s style remains consistent with no unexpected diversions. There’s no real story to speak of, but the game allows for simple pick-up-and go while utilizing less than 300mb of RAM to run. 3 – The only real issue with the game’s run is a low framerate that occurs sometimes when clicked out of it, but given that it’s an idle game that is attempting to be as non-invasive as possible while it runs on your desktop, I gave it a pass for not wanting to ramp up any of my resources when it wasn’t in focus. 2 – So far the game hasn’t experienced any crashes, freezes, or hangs. Seems well put together. [u]Sound: 10[/u] 5 – While I have kept the sound off for much of my nearly couple hours of run time so far, I did turn it on for a bit to see the quality of it. The background music is very Lo-fi feeling in a way that elicits a calming mood. The UI sounds are simple but not obnoxious by containing just a couple of clicks and the sound of coins being dropped when you sell something. Finally, the environment sound is something I really enjoyed as it gave a very woodsy afternoon vibe that I enjoyed, and will probably use as some background noise when I’m working on reviews or other projects I have in the future to be honest. 5 – The design of the sound is engineered well. It doesn’t amaze, but I don’t think it has to with such a simple premise. One of the features I do actually enjoy is the minor crackling noises you hear when you first turn the music on because it reminds me of my grandfather’s record player being started at first, which I feel is the intention. [u]Controls: 9[/u] 3 – The UI is easy to read and the entire game is easily customizable with how much of the screen it takes up through the settings options. At a glance I can tell what the buttons are for, how many resources I have, and what needs attention on my field. 3 – The UI is very easy to customize which includes the ability to swap what screen the game is on within the settings, how big you want the game to be, the ability to shift the game up or down depending on your desktop toolbar style, whether you want the game to remain on top or move to the background, letting you decide if you want the bees to fly around the desktop or not, and even provides an option to play a full screen sky graphic if you want to use this to obscure your screen for any reason. 1 – There have been a couple issues with interacting with the controls. The settings button seems to overlap with the move button so when I go to click to move something it’ll bring the settings up. Also had an issue with the rogue bee hives clipping over a bee hive I had set up in front of the tree, but all I could interact with was my bee hive and not the rogue hive. 2 – The controls feel good since it’s something you only need to tinker with using your mouse with no real necessity to add a controller or use the keyboard that I can tell. [u]Graphics: 10[/u] 5 – The style of the graphics remains consistent. It’s an adorable pixelated little game with the bees given an amazing amount of detail to make each type look different. The characters’ movements are clean, well animated, and detailed. 3 – The game’s graphics are easily recognizable to the player. At-a-glance I can tell what I’m looking at, what needs to be interacted with, and what creature, plant, or object I’m placing down. 2 – There is some strange clipping that can happen from time to time regarding the bench when it looks like it should be in front of something, and more noticeably when the rogue beehive built in the trees is clipping over a hive box. I considered how this should reflect the score, and decided that they were such infrequent and specific glitches that they should be mentioned, but not penalized for.

Low stress and cozy game with sweet honey and cute bees. Ideal for upcoming autumn.
