Controls are terrible. The auto-change of your active player is what makes defense kinda hard. I'm sure it is fun against a friend, but playing against CPU it's not much to enjoy.
I cannot recommend this game, especially for anything over £10. This is one of the most barebones games I have played in a long time. It’s extremely basic and about as simple as the old Sensible Soccer games on the Mega Drive. The options menu is practically non-existent. You can’t adjust video settings, and you can’t even adjust audio settings beyond toggling music and SFX on or off. Gameplay is equally shallow. I started with the “Qatar Cup,” and my first match as Korea versus Uruguay ended 17–1!!!. I quickly discovered that simply tapping shoot inside the box makes the ball dribble past the goalkeeper every single time. There are little to no gameplay mechanics, no team or player customization, and very minimal depth overall. I did find the country selection interesting, although some expected nations are missing while some unexpected ones are included. The only real positive is that the graphics are bright and colourful. I’ve played two matches and I’m now getting a refund, which I rarely bother doing. It’s just far too barebones and doesn’t offer any real challenge.
There is something about soccer games, whether it is the complexity of replicating the sport or the high standards set by AAA titles, that causes most of them to fall short in terms of gameplay. Golazo 2 is no exception. Unfortunately, it has several flaws that become more apparent the longer you play. For example, you can score from three quarters of the field by using the center instead of taking a shot, and the player tends to kick out when near the goal line. Even so, the overall experience remains positive. Visually, it boasts a more attractive aesthetic than many other indie titles in the genre, and although the single player mode can be somewhat monotonous, I found it really enjoyable to play with friends, whether locally or via remote play. I recommend it when it is on sale. I definitely recommend this game to have a good, fun, arcade football experience! And, to be honest, I wish for Golazo 3 in the future because this game series has lots of potential. Definitely an improvement from Golazo 1. Especially much better menus and smoother gameplay. (But for some crazy reason, Golazo 1 is 1.09gb and Golazo 2 is 553mb...exactly half) I love the idea that there are no fouls apart of the penalty area. If I have to give a vote overall I would give a 7/7.5 and I think for the price tag of $12.99(full price) is worth it in my opinion. I would be happy even to pay $20 for a hypothetical Golazo 3 in the future, but only if there is a big jump in better. CONS for me: -The ball and players physics can/should be improved. -When you shoot towards the football goal, you pretty much get always the same result: 1)the goalkeeper gets the ball always in the same way; 2)the ball gets the net bars and then goes out and never bounce back to the field or goes inside the football goal. IT WOULD BE AMAZING TO HAVE MANY MORE VARIABLES when you shoot to the football goal. -It's quite annoying that everytime you do an action like shoot, lob, pause, anything, there is voice for that. In my opinion there is no need at all to have that. It's fine to have it only for specific and more rare action, like a faul or the end of the match. -I really love the street/arena mode with 3 players but to be honest, I feel that it's an alpha/beta version. I hope it can be improved significantly. Maybe to take some inspirations for other football games that have the street/arena mode would be great. With more tricks, maybe some special shoot and so on. -The penalty kick experience is quite lame. Could be improved for sure. Thank you for this game! :) Love
