And hey, it can run in the background no problem when you inevitably reroll in your favourite game for the third time this month. Gods of Angling runs in a low profile 4:3 window and utilizes extremely low system resources.

Gods of Angling contains an epic number of selectable class and race combinations for your hero. And, there is absolutely no limitations. All your favourite originals -- the Human Paladin, the Elf Thief, the Orc Warrior are there, but maybe you also want to play a Fairy Barbarian, a Gnome Vampire, or a Ghoul Druid? Discover the more than 450 unique race and class combinations available for free, with additional choices available via DLC.

Create your favourite class and race combination with unique attributes and skills for every single one! All races feature a unique racial trait, and all classes have their own skillset to aid them in their conquest to take down some legit lunkers.
And the cast of 'characters' would not be complete without the fish themselves. Work your way up from tadpoles to trout to terrifying abominations...

Level up, grow your stats, catch legendary fish, move through natural biomes, steal from the travelling merchant, equip an exotic imbued fishing rod. It's all here! The numerous vectors have your hero grow and experience the life of an angler. Did you leave them alone to do their for for a week? A month? Catch up on their progress by checking out their journal and see their haul of new attributes, skills and loot.

460 heroes to choose from means that just as many friends could be waiting for you! Bump into fellow anglers along the way and swap tall tail tales and fishing puns. Grow your relationship with your friends and discover who is a true friend, and who is a rival!

Track your progress over time with a journal of all the fish you've caught and all the friend's you met along the way. Check on your trophy hauls, your favourite meal, how much gold you're making with the local merchants. You can monitor many forms of evolution of your chosen hero!

Many idle games advertise themselves as idle, but get gated or stuck if you don't consistently interact with them, or have degenerate gameplay loops that incentivize silly behaviour or are flooded with microtransactions. Gods of Angling aims to be a truly idle game that can run (at very low system resource utilization!) in the background as a Tamagotchi-like experience while you do anything you like. The player can engage with the game how and when they like and drive autonomous behaviours through policies and settings. In keeping with this vision of providing a user-friendly experience, your character will even sleep when you sleep!

Inspired by the class SNES game of my namesake, the user interface colour theme is highly customizable to provide an experience that suits your individual needs whether preference or accessibility. Change your theme in a moment, whenever you like improve your experience. Delicious themes are available beyond the default "Oreo" theme. Why not give Blackberry, Coconut or Mint a try? There are many tasty options to choose from to customize your experience and visual preferences.

Gods of Angling is free! It is a free game, and it will never contain aggressive or pay-two-win microtransaction mechanics. The Founders Edition DLC provides access to additional hero races & classes and themes. The DLC is optional, and never in-your-face or unfair. This is a promise!

It is satisfying and comfortable in a way that's tough to explain. Not much to do, but for some reason, I want to keep it running all the time.
A fun little idle game, where you make a character and see how well they do on their rpg angling journey, with a dev who's very responsive to issues and suggestions, i.e. those other reviews you see talking about the real time sleep problem? That was fixed before I even stumbled upon this idle gem. Player tasks are there, but short, mostly changing equipment/pets/skill/kitchen rules or the once an hour optional minigame. Occasionally your character might wake up from a nap with a dream of a short task only you, the player, can complete for them, and all buying/selling actions are also up to you, which becomes extra useful given the existence of scrolls that allow you to borrow 1 skill for another race or class on top of your own. It's very multiboxing friendly and allows for custom portraits if you dislike the default for a given class/race combo, which I may have used a lot, with some genuinely interesting depth and customization to each character that ensures some variation in how it all plays out, And it really is lightweight for a modern game, I have 5 characters running, at all times, and it only costs me ~250mb of ram a multiboxed instance, something the game fully supports doing. I have played plenty an idle game that needs for 1 instance the 1.25gb I'm currently using, so the fact there's still theorycrafted characters I wish to try once I get various unlocks, or once the dev releases more content shouldn't ever be a problem. There's a lot to try and even more on the way, so if that sounds good, give it a try~ If you want an idea of the adventures this game can weave first, read on~ To start, let me tell you about my original character Cocaine, named because I thought the default ghoul lich portrait looks like a man for whom caffeine alone isn't enough and I found that hilarious, who's gone from dying frequently to almost every real challenge he faced to actually succeeding somewhat regularly as he learned his stronger abilities as a lich, I've really enjoyed watching him struggle his way to victory, and I'm always excited to figure out any way I can further refine him to become a beast unto himself. Next, my second character Lanae, an elf vampire who often manages to drain foes faster than they can kill her, but quickly crumples if she runs out of MP, she doesn't eat often thanks to the miracle of lembas bread, so her kitchen's easy to keep well stocked meaning lots of buffs I can give her to try and keep her from another MP crash death, but this has become less required thanks to her finally unlocking the ability to get health from /all/ of her attacks, not just certain skills. Third came Kiri, a fairy harpoonist who's got a crazy crit rate and high attack but rather low HP, turning every major battle into a huge gamble, absolutely my favorite to find in a big fight when I check on her, I made her in an attempt to make as luck based a character as possible, and while I'm still eagerly awaiting a true luck based class, watching her go absolutely all-or-nothing is a real joy. And then there's my fourth, Brie, a ratkin thief who's incredible skill in dodging, and thiefly sneaking skills have progressed to the point almost nothing can touch her, and even an elder leviathan has yet to manage to do it twice...which is good for her as that second hit's her death, she's another low HP character. Thanks to the fortune of getting a scroll of a skill that gives her constant income, she's also got an incredibly well stocked kitchen and has not seen an item in the shop she couldn't afford in ages. From living off her pocket lint and the occasional plain fish, to being a high roller on her way to outlevel and outdo every character I've made before her, her rise has been the most glorious so far. And finally, Irin, an animist barbarian, she's got the high damage, high durability you'd expect from a /barbarian/ of all classes, but who can switch to any pet at any time with buffs above the maximum for any character not either an animist, or in possession of the scroll for their wild kinship racial skill instantly given. Accuracy suffering from her being too much of a brute for her intellect to keep up? Use an int boosting pet til I can fix it with equipment upgrades/elixirs/meal plans. Kitchen looking empty? Give her the bumblebee and watch the ingredients roll in. Want more items? There's actually 2 pets for that, one gives more item drop luck, the other gives less but boosts luck for more crits. She's the newest, so she can't catch a legendary fish quite yet, but when she gets there you bet she's got a pet to boost her encounter rates there too. Any other character has to build trust which makes on the fly swaps for current needs something to hesitate on unless you've got several elixirs of bonding laying around, making her all in all the easiest to see and fix weaknesses for, and who I have very high hopes for seeing how she handles the challenges I know are ahead once she hits level 50 and sees her first legendary.

An Idle game that is truly an Idle Game. Bait your hook, toss your line, come back in a few hours & read about your adventures & what you caught. Item / skill system is fun to experiment with, providing a bit of actual hands on interaction with the game, but does not require you to micro manage it at all times in FOMO on something or falling behind. New features being added consistently, but most importantly the Dev responds and interacts with the feedback.
You really should be able to make more decisions in game. As it stands the only decisions I can make seemingly is equipping gear that I may or may not get from drops every few hours, and skills I haven't unlocked yet. You can't choose fishing location, fish you're targeting, you can't sell fish, can't choose to stop or start fishing. The game truly does almost everything by itself to it's detriment.
Its absurd how good this is for being free, only hope this dev keeps making games

Love this game.
You could have this chill game running in the background or a 90s desktop stripper running instead. The choice is EASY.
