The picture when you first load in are low resolution but in about 3-5 seconds it becomes more clearer. I was able to read signs and look at pictures pretty well depending on the location and camera used. It's a very entertaining game that challenges you on your knowledge of cultures (their arcitechtural designs, letters used in their languages, color of the dirt/trees, road signs). The variations of locations are great, I went from in the middle of the desert to a shopping mall in thailand, and then to a store I visited in real life. In Geo guesser, you are mostly in south america or austrailia but it rarely happened in this game. My only real complaint is that the "travel icons" (purple indicators) do not line up with whats on the ground. Sometimes if you click a travel icon that is in front of a sign, it travels you past it. You learn that the dots are how far you want to go not necessarily where you want to be standing. I wish I was able to play with friends!
I would like to sincerely thank the developer for producing this experience and making it free! I had the chance to visit many exotic, beautiful places I would otherwise wouldn't bother exploring on my own. Wanting to guess the place on the globe made me explore each scene trying to find clues in culture, people and terrains. Learnt a bit more about our amazing earth. I believe they curated their content randomized from google/google earth so you will almost never run out of places to go or guess? Thanks guys, I had a great time!

*Note* Played on an Oculus Rift. Though my time played says .3 hours, it is actually closer to 1-1.5 hours at the time of this review. I've been launching the game through the Oculus launcher, which Steam hours doesn't count. On to the review... It's basically Geoguessr, but in VR. If you aren't familiar with the concept, you are dropped on a random spot in the world in Google Streetview and you need to figure out where you are as close to your start point as you can, by moving around and looking at the terrain, signs, buildings, etc. anything that may give some clue where you are. The closer you guess, the more points you get. It's quite fun, and lets you explore various parts of the world in a very interesting way. Where this game differs, however, seems to be in the types of locations you get put in. Where Geoguessr will put you in nearly any random spot, Go Guess seems to only put you in enclosed areas with limited movement range, and almost always from an on-foot location (rather than from a cars perspective in a street.) This means that this is actually harder than Geoguessr, because you are far more limited in what hints you can find. At one point I was outside a church, walking around its lawn and I had to get clues from what I could see out on the street. Another scene had me inside and outside a yurt, surrounded by snow and animals, and I had to make an educated guess. In yet another scene, I was inside of a mall, and I had to figure out where I was based on a web address on a sign. On the other hand, the game can be pretty generous with how close you need to be. In one scene I figured out what city in New Zealand I was in, and just setting the cursor on the city was enough to get me full points, without needing to zoom in to the max to find the precise spot. There are some minor issues, however. For one, it's Oculus Rift only for now. But a message from the dev on Reddit suggested they are working on the Vive version. I also could find no way to customize my avatar or choose my name. Changing my avatar is no big deal since I don't play multiplayer, but it'd be nice if I could change my name. For some reason the game chose a name for me, and I don't really care for seeing "OralHeir" everytime I see my score. Another minor annoyance is there not being a rotate button. This would be a very fun game to just pull up a chair and sit down while exploring the world, but it would be far better if you could press a button on the controller to rotate. All in all it's a pretty fun game, and better yet, it's free! If you have a Rift, I definitely recommend giving it a try. If you have a Vive, maybe follow the game or wishlist it for when it gets Vive support.

New Negative review 26 August 2024 = Go Guess is a free VR game that use Google Street View for sightseeing and guessing the location. Has been delisted from the Steam store and servers been turned off Do Not bother to download now. Old Positive review 24 July 2020 = Go Guess is a free VR game that use Google Street View for sightseeing and guessing the location. It worked on my system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Has a Solo and Multiplayer mode. You can teleport to certain locations within range. It takes a minute for the 360 photo to load. You have to wander around looking at the area for clues. Then you can take a guess by pointing on the globe and then zooming and moving on a map. Try this if you like to travel.
This is absolute trash! Just go play geoguessr.
