Good but challenging game. I liked it tho
Gnomes Garden is a fantasy time-management and resource-management game developed by Workroom7 and Creobit and published by 8Floor. Combining accessible strategy mechanics with a colorful fairy-tale setting, the game offers a lighthearted adventure centered on rebuilding a kingdom that has fallen into decline. While it does not aim for the complexity of larger strategy titles, it succeeds by delivering a steady stream of engaging challenges, charming visuals, and rewarding progression that make it an enjoyable experience for casual players and fans of the genre alike. The story begins when an unusually severe drought devastates the kingdom's once-beautiful gardens. The lush landscapes that brought prosperity and happiness to the realm are reduced to lifeless wastelands, and the king becomes gravely ill after witnessing the destruction. With the kingdom facing uncertainty, the young princess decides to take action. Determined to restore both the magical gardens and her father's health, she embarks on a journey across the kingdom, accompanied by hardworking gnomes who assist her in rebuilding what has been lost. The narrative remains simple throughout the campaign, but its fairy-tale atmosphere provides a pleasant backdrop for the gameplay. At its heart, Gnomes Garden is built around efficient resource management. Every level presents players with a collection of tasks that must be completed by gathering materials, repairing damaged structures, clearing blocked pathways, and restoring important locations. Resources are limited, which means every decision matters. Players must determine which tasks should be prioritized and how to best utilize their workers in order to complete objectives as efficiently as possible. Although the mechanics are easy to understand, achieving optimal results requires careful planning and quick decision-making. One of the game's strongest qualities is its ability to remain approachable without becoming completely effortless. Early stages introduce the mechanics gradually, teaching players how to collect resources, construct buildings, and remove obstacles. As the campaign progresses, new challenges are introduced that require more strategic thinking. The increasing complexity feels natural and never becomes overwhelming, making the game suitable for both newcomers and experienced fans of time-management titles. The campaign contains more than forty levels, each offering unique layouts and objectives. Some stages focus heavily on collecting resources, while others emphasize repairing infrastructure, activating magical devices, or overcoming environmental hazards. This variety helps maintain player interest throughout the adventure and prevents the gameplay from becoming overly repetitive. Even though the core mechanics remain consistent, the changing level designs ensure that each challenge feels distinct. Resource collection forms the foundation of every mission. Food, wood, and other materials are needed to perform nearly every action, from clearing debris to restoring damaged structures. Because resources are often scarce, players must think carefully about how to spend them. The game constantly encourages efficient planning, rewarding players who can identify the most effective route through a level and make intelligent use of their available workforce. The restoration aspect of the gameplay is particularly satisfying. Many levels begin with damaged landscapes, broken bridges, and neglected gardens. As objectives are completed, these environments gradually transform into thriving and beautiful locations. Watching barren areas come back to life provides a strong sense of accomplishment and reinforces the game's central theme of rebuilding and renewal. The visible impact of the player's efforts helps make progression feel meaningful. Visually, Gnomes Garden embraces a bright and cheerful fantasy style. The environments are filled with colorful forests, magical gardens, rivers, mountains, and whimsical structures. Character animations are simple but expressive, and the overall presentation maintains a warm and inviting atmosphere. While the graphics are not technically advanced, the artistic direction suits the game's tone perfectly and helps create a world that feels charming and accessible. The fantasy setting is further enhanced through magical elements woven into both the story and gameplay. The princess gains access to special abilities that can assist with overcoming difficult situations, while various magical structures and enchanted locations appear throughout the campaign. These elements add variety to the gameplay and help distinguish the game from more traditional resource-management titles. Another strength is the game's pacing. Individual levels are short enough to be completed during brief play sessions, making the game ideal for casual play. At the same time, the gradual introduction of new mechanics and increasing difficulty provide enough incentive to continue progressing through the campaign. The balance between accessibility and challenge is handled particularly well, ensuring that players remain engaged without feeling frustrated. The game's biggest limitation is that it remains relatively simple compared to larger strategy experiences. Players seeking deep economic systems, extensive customization, or highly complex strategic mechanics may find the gameplay somewhat repetitive over long sessions. Many objectives involve familiar tasks such as gathering resources and repairing structures. However, the game's charm, variety of levels, and relaxing atmosphere help offset these limitations and keep the experience enjoyable. What ultimately makes Gnomes Garden successful is its ability to deliver a satisfying strategy experience without unnecessary complexity. It focuses on clear objectives, rewarding progression, and a welcoming fantasy world, allowing players to enjoy the process of rebuilding a kingdom one level at a time. The combination of resource management, colorful presentation, and steady challenge creates an adventure that remains entertaining from beginning to end. Gnomes Garden may not revolutionize the time-management genre, but it executes its ideas with confidence and polish. Its engaging gameplay loop, charming story, magical setting, and accessible design make it a worthwhile experience for anyone who enjoys casual strategy games. By combining thoughtful planning with a cheerful atmosphere, it creates a relaxing yet rewarding adventure that continues to hold its appeal throughout the entire campaign. Rating: 8/10
It's an OK game, but lacks polish. You can't queue actions that you don't have resources for yet/can't reach and you can't remove actions from queue. If you haven't played through 12 Labours of Hercules yet ... I would recommend that instead. If you're just craving more like it ... perhaps this will do.
This is a kid's game, probably good for ages 8-12. I bought it for my 6-year-old, who loved it but often required me sitting next to her to help her figure out what to do next. Once we got the hang of it, she played through each level at her own speed, then she watched me earn 3 stars for completing it quickly. There are 49 levels. This game is G rated - there are goblins that knock out your workers, but they are smiling and carrying musical instruments the whole time. Most levels, there is no way to get stuck and no way to lose. The game can be completed without going quickly and earning stars, but to get all achievements you have to be fast and efficient. The last third of the game is very repetitive with almost nothing new, so good for kids but boring for adults.
A fun time management game.
