I really enjoyed this game and I haven't even completed all the bonus scenarios yet. I finished the Rome campaign and found it super challenging and fun. It's more of a resource production line manager like Anno than a city builder like CS. There's a balance you have to find especially early on between production and adding another building. You can't just spam buildings you really have to plan out your progress. Do you need to get housing leveled up or build a monument or have a certain amount of resources? You can easily fail by focusing on one aspect over another especially early on before you have a decent income. Your money comes mostly from taxes and it's easy to overspend initially. People don't pay taxes if they are unemployed so you'll start with placing a few fields and the buildings for bread and some houses for the worker, a well, a temple, this allows those level 1 workers to level up their houses and therefore pay more taxes and have room for more people. It's important to level up the housing so they hold more workers without using more required resources. The production chains get pretty complex and a bit micro-managey which I love. Some buildings need the level 2 and level 3 (medium and elite) workers with their houses and their particular needs. It's all a lot of planning and balancing for the main gameplay loop. The campaigns - Rome, Africa, Gauls - are a bunch of scenarios strung together. There's no real story which is fine. I was impressed there was voice overs for the scenario intros. Each one is timed- I usually HATE this in game but it works here. In fact it's needed for the gameplay loop or there would be no challenge. For example getting a certain amount of resources, marble, meat, etc would have 0 challenge if you could just let it play forever. One thing to note is there is no in game save function - and the reviews reflect this - your progress is saved between scenarios. This was a non-issue for me they take about 30 mins to an hour to complete and you can always just pause if you need to step away but a scenario is meant to be played in one sitting you can't save and come back to it. You'll definitely fail some scenarios and that's a good thing! The game is challenging and not casual and laid back like the graphics might imply. You'll learn from the fail and get better next time so passing the scenario is really satisfying. Anyway it's an absolute steal for the price and I am looking forward to what the Dev does next.
Chilled out casual game.
A charming low-poly city builder with nice music and relaxing gameplay. Love the multiple nations that are available to experience, despite being able to save, the missions are short enough to continue to enjoy through multiple sittings. Feels pretty polished for an early access game
Ultra chill city builder designed for those passionate enthusiasts of Classical Antiquity all around the world. Best enjoyed during holidays or whenever you have a fair amount of spare time to invest on long gameplays. Glory of Rome is far from overloading the player with countless missions. Actually I even felt that rushing towards objectives spoiled things a lil' - so do take your time and enjoy the imersion by the detail. It is really worthwhile. Ah, last but not least: the dev is extra diligent, really impressively zealous!
nice game to play.
Absolute Empfehlung!!! Zitat: Müsst ihr wissen - Hänno
The game has a nice concept, but it lags a great deal. However, the biggest turn off is that there is no save game feature. Meaning you cant hold onto your progress unless you leave the program running 24/7. I only play this game when i have a few minutes to wait for a game upgrade on my origin server. I wish i could save my progress. I would have refunded the game the next day if Steam did not have the severely limited time constraint on refunds. 2 hrs game time is absurd. it should be 24 hrs or within 2 or 3 days.
