The entire game length on first play through and victory was about 8.5-9.5 hours, after trying the demo, buying game and playing demo save, restarting.. One of the better experiences with gladiator management. Still in development, feels pretty good, definitely something addictive even in dual moments. Late game can have some moments of tedium, but its broken by losses, scaling feels mostly good if you make good progression choices between gear, traiing, staff and buying selling gladiators. Capturing sometimes yields best results as well. Could benefit from additional mechanics like trades, facing former allies, females, enemy ludus gladiator rankings, animals, escapes, crowd requests, rivalry, internal sabotage, the typical ones you see in others games. This game could be even so much more, but it already is a very good experience. It is 100% worth the asking price and excited to see where it goes. I hope they deepen mechanics to add more meaning to the gladitors lives and relationships both in your ludos and in others. There are a few gui bugs, but I did have one crash after a victory. The game autosaves so i only had to repeat the battles of that day. =
This developer has done so much to bring this game up in quality. Attentive to feedback and delivers. If you want a management game with bloodsports give it a go.
Super fun, absolutely malding that my best gladiator was killed.
Good job Marius!
dev has been putting in work! game is so good
Good
This game is fantastic, and I've genuinely enjoyed every aspect of it. The combat, management, progression, and overall gladiator fantasy are all very well executed. That said, I think the game currently lacks replay value and simply needs more content. I completed my first playthrough in around 12 hours, defeated every boss, and reached the end of the campaign. By the time everything finally clicked, the game was already over. I would love to see more arenas, more bosses, more leagues, additional mechanics, and a much longer progression curve. Right now, the arena progression goes from Local → Regional → Grand Arena, which feels a little too short. Something like this would create a much greater sense of prestige: 🏟️ Arena Progression I. Local Games – Small local exhibitions in villages II. Town League – Established town games III. City League – Major city competitions IV. Provincial League – Best fighters in a province V. Governor's Circuit – Sponsored by provincial governors VI. Imperial Frontier Championship – Famous arenas on the empire's borders VII. Grand Provincial Championship – Champions from every province VIII. Imperial League – Official empire-wide competition IX. Champions League – Only legendary gladiators remain X. Grand Arena Championship – The pinnacle of gladiatorial fame Another area that could greatly improve the game's long-term progression is the equipment system. Currently, each equipment category has around nine items (helmets, armor, greaves, weapons, spears, and shields). While this provides some variety, progression feels fairly short. I'd love to see each category expanded to around 30 items, giving players a much longer and more rewarding equipment journey. I also think the weapon category should be split into dedicated weapon classes instead of grouping everything together. At the moment, axes, hammers, short swords like the Gladius, and long swords like the Spatha all occupy the same progression path, even though they play very differently. For example: Short Swords (Gladius): Short reach, fast attack speed, lower damage. Long Swords (Spatha): Longer reach, slower attacks, higher damage. Axes: Heavy strikes with high armor penetration but slower swings. War Hammers: Very slow, but excellent at staggering enemies and breaking armor. Spears: Superior reach and thrusting attacks but weaker in close quarters. Each weapon class could then have its own progression of roughly 30 unlockable weapons, allowing players to specialize in a preferred fighting style instead of simply upgrading through a single weapon list. The same philosophy could also be applied to helmets, armor, greaves, shields, and other equipment. A much larger equipment roster would make every victory feel more rewarding, provide stronger long-term goals, and significantly increase replayability by encouraging different builds and playstyles. My biggest criticism is that the game ends just as it really starts to shine. By the time you've mastered the mechanics, hired a scout capable of finding recruits with excellent potential, and spent hours training and equipping your gladiators, you've already reached the highest prestige tier and defeated the final boss. It feels like the game ends just as your stable of gladiators is becoming truly interesting. I wanted several more leagues, stronger opponents, larger arenas, and more equipment to continue working toward. Players should have the opportunity to enjoy the powerful gladiators they've invested so much time developing before the campaign comes to an end. Despite this criticism, I think the foundation is excellent. With more endgame content and a deeper progression system, this could easily become one of the best gladiator management games available.
addicting simple but fun not to mention cheap
It's a fun little game for a few hours but my reason for the negative review are as follows: Game starts to lag or stutter and becomes unplayable after about 15 minutes everytime I try to play it ( it started about 3 hours in ). I have to shut down the computer as it effecdts the whole system, don't know if it's a memory leak or whatever but quite annoying. A few hours in, the game becomes very repetative, not really much to do except recuit a few more people, buy a few more weapons and then just do the same battles over and over again. Anyway will re-review when 1.0 comes out, hopefully it will be a better experience, but for now it's a no go for me. I have changed my review simple becuase of the amazing interaction from the developer. He did reach out to fix my particular problem, and eventhough the problem still persist ( and it could very well be a problem with my hardware setup ) I have had enough playtime for the extreme cheap price, and that together with the hard work the developer puts in deserves recognition . If you want to be a gladiator, even for just a few hours, don't hesitate to try this out.
This game is AWESOME! Get ready to cry when your favourite gladiator dies, and laugh when you finally had enough and decide to execute that one useless gladiator that never seems to win a single fight. Obviously this is in early access and there are still some things to iron out, but I'm loving this one way more than I expected.
