The successor and downgrade of "Gemcraft: Chasing Shadows". Lots of game-breaking issues, but it mostly boils down to the following: Frame rate dependent logic, meaning if the game lags -- and it will due to the nature of flash games; enemies can simply ignore hits, while towers forget to fire. This is especially harmful when the game is sped up. It also means swarmlings become extremely frustrating to deal with, in fact, they become the most unbalanced crap I have ever seen in the tower defence genre, and no strategy will save you from bad design, not even the Chain component from the previous title could save you. None of this should be a problem in practice, except for the fact that some of the features in this game don't follow this logic, hence throwing the game into total chaos when switching speeds or dropping frames. Trials are not challenging, they are embarrassing and poorly designed. The game is too Grind-festy compared to the previous title. Pylons and Lanterns are great concepts and additions to the game, but while the former has a use case in pretty much any scenario, the later is just horribly useless until much, much, much later in the game.. I also feel I get punished more often for trying to be creative in this title compared to the previous. I don't like throwing a dislike at the Gemcraft series, but Frostborn Wrath simply isn't the successor that it should be.
One of the best TD game series I played.
Fun nostalgic browser game from back in the day with some complexity when it comes to tower defense games: leveling up, collecting passive buffs, skill points distribution, gem combination, wave enraging, and more.
Sadly, games not staying in their steam folder is a common flaw in games. But this one right here takes this to a whole new level. Not only does it not use the "my games" folder in your documents folder, not only does it create a folder directly in your documents folder, but it creates freaking TWO folders directly in your documents folder. GCFW-backup1 and GCFW-backup2. Nope, I did not make these folders. The game made them itself, I have no idea why they're called backup. Programming like this should be outlawed. Apart from that, game isn't much fun either. It's always the same. I regret ever playing it, because it has over 600 achievements and drags down your completion rate.
As I said in my review for the other GemCraft:
this is a hidden gem.
One of my all time favorites that I keep coming back to over and over!
A tower defense with incredible strategic and tactical dept, game modes, long term building that changes the gameplay.
amazing game was into gemcraft labyrinth as a kid beat the game full on hardest difficulties and then pushed scores love this tower defense game. Only issue is the lag when 500+ entities on screen cause with some of the gameplay im getting like 1-3 FPS
I have been playing this game since it was a flash game back in 2000s. It will always challenge you.
Best tower defense is still best.
