About
GeckoShop is a Sandbox Shop Simulator + Creature Collector, where you manage your own shop, selling all the different varieties of geckos!
"Your dream of having your own Petshop finally comes true. Get cozy and have a fun time collecting and selling lizards, or grind hard and be the next millionare on this island!"
You'll have to:
Deal with customers, set your own Prices.
Keep the store clean and working, or get Employees to do it for you!
Explore the small open-world city, with People to interact with, Quests and other things at every corner.
Find Shells and ancient Artifacts on the beach to fill the museum, to unlock even more content as you go.
Accept Quests from various NPCs on the island.
Catch Thieves trying to steal from your shop.
Decorate and upgrade your store, however you want.

You can sell your pets, or turn your Shop into a zoo!
There are hundreds of geckos for you to unlock, in 4 rarities. Through opening chests, mutating geckos in the Lab, Vending machines, and through sidequests.
Buy and open different Boxes, to get random Geckos from that set, and if you're lucky enough you might even find a Super rare gecko.

Hire Employees to assist you to sell pets and products, clean trash from your store, and catch thieves before they can steal anything.
Keep your shop small or upgrade it to the maximum, make a giant warehouse full of rare items and animals.
Collect Trophies to display in the Backroom of your Shop, to keep track of your Progress.

The City is full of Surprises! Check out the Lab, where "Zippy Joe" made a machine to mutate 5 geckos into another one, and with some luck you might even get a Lab-exclusive gecko (very rare, they sparke in rainbow colors!)
Go to the Wrenchshop, and talk with "Bolt" about upgrading your shop, or go to the Paintshop and let "Doodle" paint your whole Shop.
Get yourself a Companion from the Petshop, or race against other geckos!
And dont forget to get a Burger from the restaurant next to the Beach ;)
You might want to go treasure hunting, or collect shells and ancient artifacts to keep the museum growing.
Or maybe you want to catch fishes all day long and forget about your customers!
Sell your fishes to "Skipper", but don't worry, you'll see in your Collection which fishes you've already catched, and which ones are missing.

This game is a rugpull that had the nerve to try to pretend that it's a full release, don't buy unless you want to have to waste your time sending a refund request to Steam Support. It's little more then early access limbo trash that's a clone of all those other "make a business" slop on this platform that relies more on being addicting to play than actually being fun, the type of game that makes you think "god I am wasting my life and I'm not even happy throwing away what little time I have on this planet." Don't be fooled by the fact the game says it's "released" as it's been just two months shy of a full year since the last update, and the game is still stuck in v.02, AKA, the game was only marked as finished so they can rush out a sequel, but still be able to take money here away from children who don't know any better or people who don't look too deeply into what they're buying. If you want an idea of how buggy, broken, and dogwater the game is, even the devs themselves say the coding is borderline unworkable which shows in trying to make the game run, a detail I could overlook months ago when the game was still getting updated but now can no longer be excused when they're trying to sell it as a finished product. Seriously, they say, in their own words, that they "love out community" as they proceed to pretend this game is a complete by releasing it instead of making it free as they promise a "generous" discount for those whose already bought it for the sequel (which who knows if they'll even honor when the next game likely gets shoved into early access, not that such a thing is even remotely OK to do to begin with as the people who bought the first game will never get the finished product they paid for). The very fact this game is up as it is should say a lot, and I don't care if the dev claims "it was to avoid making people mad" as that excuse doesn't work when you're actively taking money from people. This isn't a free game on itch, this is a paid product on a platform where people expect their paid products to actually be what they say they are. If I could refund this game I would, I don't care if it's only ten bucks, I want to claw that money away for the audacity of the people behind this game for pretending they're doing any good for the "community" by releasing an unfinished game and then asking for more money for a sequel that's not a sequel but instead a replacement for it. Do not recommend, spend your 10 bucks on an actually finished game with devs that either actually do care about community, or at least are honest that they don't.

abandoned :(
Dev abandoned game and expects people to still pay for version 0.2 while it still has many game breaking bugs.
I was very excited for this game and have been left extremely disappointed. I made the mistake of not reading the recent reviews before buying. The developer has openly admitted to deciding to ditch this one in its current state in order to remake it from the ground up as Gecko Shop 2. They are unable and unwilling to work on anymore content or bug fixes for this version of the game. Within the first 20 minutes I ran into multiple run harming bugs such as; Geckos disappearing, Purchased items not arriving, Not being able to open/close the shop, The personal tank shrinking in size when moved. I didn't play enough to unlock some of the other mechanics, so I have no idea if there are any other or even worse bugs present. You could probably play it, but prepared to be frustrated by bugs and know that you'll never get fixes or any of the missing/planned for content. I recommend saving literally before any time you purchase, open, place or move something. I dabbled briefly in the demo for the new version, but so far it's taking on a completely different vibe/style. Overall it was an excellent concept, and I did like what was available aside from the bugs and lack of ongoing support. It seems like the dev has a lot to learn, and this game would have been decent fun if they had been able to continue working on fixes and content for it.
I love this game, but it has some setbacks. It's fun to just run around and see what you find, trying to figure out the secrets and explore. But between it lagging any time it saves and the game being buggy, sometimes it's more annoying then fun. If you want a game to just run around in and be silly, I'd say yes get this game, but if you where wanting to get it to truly play and discover everything it has to offer, I'd say wait tell Gecko Shop 2 is out. I was looking forward to all that was upcoming but the game has unfortunately been abandoned. When I'm running around looking for shells sometimes I randomly fall into the map, I will be standing still and the entire world will be moving and spinning around me. I haven't gotten motion sickness in years but it triggered it badly. (had to go to home screen and back and lost all 7 of the shells I had grabbed to put into the box) The audio is also all sorts of a mess, while most sounds are nice and calm the leveling up sound causes me to flinch every time from the sudden loud noise it plays. Sometimes loud wind will also start playing and turning down the Nature sounds doesn't stop it at all. even with the audio very low were you can't hear any sounds it's still extremely loud and I don't have my headset that loud at all. So yes, just running around being silly, opening boxes of geckos, and finding the shells is fun, It's so super annoying. So again, if you just want a silly little game that has some quirks, go ahead and get it; But if you were wanting a fully enjoyable game. Wait for the second one to release.
Abandonware.
Abandoned and buggy
A great game until game breaking bugs weasel their way into your save and make it completely unplayable. Developer decided to abandon the game before it could even leave early access, disappearing for months without any fixes in sight, and now they're bringing out a sequel to a game that didn't even technically come out. Absolutely no communication from the developer until they decided they were going to give a second shot at taking people's money. Apologies wont cut it, either give people back the money you scammed from them, or give owners of the first game the second game for free. Idec about what's in my bank or library, but this ♥♥♥♥ is still purchasable through Steam. People are STILL getting scammed. Do something about it if you're that sorry.
I loved this game when it initially came out. However, I question if the dev actually cares about this game anymore. However, instead of focusing on fixing and making this game playable and more enjoyable, they are scraping it and starting from the ground up, while also making a sequel. I wish the dev would actually put more work into the first one and not be concerned with a sequel while the first game is still so broken.
Game was fine untiL last updates, now it's unpleyable on top of being abandoned in favor of sequel and another game. Dev himself confirmed game is spaghetti coded and he wants to sell it in a new wrap after "fixing", than finishing this one for free.
