"Gangsters 1920" should be classified as a "Walking Simulator" since that's primarily what you will be doing. Walking through a maze of 215 rooms that all look the same without any map. So you are required to have graph paper and lots of free time on your hands. The game is supposed to be randomly generated, but it is the same exact map layout each time you start a new game. The placement of the informant, gramophone and guard are always in the same locations every time you play. Even the password never changes. It's always: "Gramophone". So I don't see any of the mentioned replay value. There's some issues with grammar and a random problem where a saved game loads showing full health, but in reality the player only has half-health. But it doesn't really matter, because even if you die, you can still Load or Continue where you left off and keep playing. There's no penalty for dying. In fact I finished the game is one sitting. It's very easy, simplistic, boring and repetitious. Not at all challenging as mentioned in the description. Just monotonous. For anyone who purchased this game and is stuck, I created a map below. You begin on the Yellow Square and end on the Brown Square. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1921232062
Gangsters 1920 is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a cheap, lazy cash grab. It's a very boring, simple looking Unity based puzzle/adventure game where you wander around weird low poly/minimalist isometric rooms hunt out hints. What I like about this is that it doesn't seem like a Unity asset flip, I haven't seen anything like this as a game template before, so this looks like a genuine attempt at a video game. The problem is, it's just not very good. It feels unpolished, the minimalist type graphics that the screenshots show are really underwhelming, but then, this is a mobile app, so we shouldn't expect much. Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to screw over PC gamers. On Steam, this is $4 USD, on app stores, it's $2 USD. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay TWICE AS MUCH for a crappy bundle worsening mobile game so they can pretend their gaming rigs are iPhones.

Gangsters 1920 is an interesting game that I received from a bundle. The game features an agent walking around through a labyrinth of connected rooms. After figuring out how the game should be played I had an enjoyable time exploiting many bugs and glitches and laughing at the absurdity of what was happening. At one point I was walking and there was a skeleton prop in the corner of the room, the item wasn't green so I wasn't sure if it would be interactive like other items in the game and upon touching it I instantly died. This was no problem evidently as I simply respawned in the room before the current room I was in. At another point there was a small ball rolling back and forth in a room, I accidentally touched it and it was like a scene out of Indiana Jones with a giant crushing ball instant killing me, except ball was tiny and not at all threatening yet still instantly killed me. At the near free cost I got this game at, it was definitely worth the 2.4 hours of fun I got out of it. You can also totally edit the XML save file and do so cool stuff like teleporting out of the bounds of the room, interestingly enough the game actually has a linear gravity implemented that causes you to slowly fall deeper and deeper into the void.
"Gangsters 1920" wants so bad to be "retro" it hurts. From the finicky and clunky controls clearly not made for PC over the dull and lifeless low-poly graphics to the completely misleading "gangster" vibe there's not much "retro" about this, it's just not very good. You play a detective who has to walk through a seemingly endless maze of rooms and corridors which all look alike to find two clues to a bank robbery. While walking through these rooms you sometimes do encounter gangsters - who shoot at you - but you'll also encounter balls that can hurt you. Oh, and dogs, who can do the same. Why? No idea. What's the story behind the building where all of this happens, because clearly it must be a huge, windowless house? Nope, me neither. Since you can't shoot back or do anything beyond walking and occasionally talking to someone for meaningless dialogue the game quickly devolves into a complete snoozefest. There's just not enough mystery to this. The utterly bland visuals certainly don't help, neither does the uniform lighting ("real-time lighting", the store blurb calls it, as if that was something special when it's just a generic Unity feature at work). Oh, but the game does report your every move to some kind of analytics server called SCILL Engagement Toolkit - complete with your Steam user name and ID for whatever reason. That's the only reason the game uses Steamworks at all - not for implementing achievements, only to collect data. Certainly not a practice I like too much and also likely not compatible with the GDPR. At a price of usually 3 bucks this is far too boring, uninspired and expensive. No wonder it got tossed into bundles where it's sold for pennies on the dollar. Avoid. One of the most unfinished games I've encountered on Steam. Technically playable but utterly pointless.
