A figure remembered in history once vanquished the monsters that ravaged the land, leaving behind an ideal of calm before an untimely death.
The "Kingdom" built upon this legacy did not seek to rule; instead, it maintained a long era of stability by protecting the autonomy of local lords.
However, after the Kingdom's decline and eventual collapse, the calm that persisted in new forms has begun to stir with ominous rumors.
――The Calamity Divergence――
It is said that remnants of the malignant force have resurfaced.
Destroy them, and the calamity fades.
Subjugate them, and prosperity follows.
Fading with time, the rumors were nearly forgotten.
A shadow approaches a nobleman, claiming to deliver a divine revelation.
Is it a blessing… or a harbinger of doom?

Still early in the game - initial impressions and feedback, will likely update later. Gameplay - classic fire emblem, the hooks and plot will be familiar in a good way. Translation is a little odd occasionally, but workable with a bit of imagination. Good level of power fantasy and some good combinations of ability early. Overall a fairly low-normal difficulty for veteran players, but in a good way - I can play this while toasted and still have a good time. Quality of life - radar graphs and early weapon variety are very appreciated. The guide is lovely, but it and the interface is lacking in depth - what do stats do? What's the difference in skill, proficiency, dexterity, et al in this game? Being able to see these in tooltips or a dedicated guide page would help with builds. As an extra, a relative guide on the radar graph would be great - what's the average for a given value of the unit's class? Is this unit you get early exceptional in some way, or are you looking up whether they've got the stats you want on a secondary site? Variables in the guide could be better explained, especially with notation. I have an engineering degree and it feels natural, but someone without might be miserable. Logistics - Iron opposition-reaver for weapon triangle in the first 5 minutes? A little anxiety-inducing, forces the meta-choice of accepting this as normal or preserving choice. Refreshing, and not economically overburdened yet. Economics feel generous, but that could be a bait and switch. Breakability - nothing stopping you from abusing early flyer mobility. I'm not generally a gamebreaking fan, eat your hearts out if you want a strong flying striker in the first act. Overall, feels like great potential for abuse if that's your thing. Action economy feels generous so far. Range options - generally appreciated, but nitpick with swords - if you've ever tried to throw one, you'll understand. Default ranged options feel a bit silly. The extended-range mechanic does open some really nice options for spears and axes, though. I don't like Messenger's face. It bothers me deeply. I'd formally petition the developers to change it but that feels like a Streisand effect recipe. Might do it anyway, those eyes haunt my dreams.
FFL: Helena is a very decent strategy RPG that follows the same steps of the old fire emblem snes games (FE4 and Tracia, to be exact). It took me 67 hours to clear both endings but I still have to clear the Void Rifts to complete all the achievements. There is quite a lot to talk about in this game, so I will split into different sections. *INTERFACE* The interface of the menus and on the overall map is very clean. Usually all the information is displayed with tooltips, which help understanding what each option does. There is one glaring point that I would love to suggest to the developers, which is a "RETURN TO TITLE" option either on the battle menu or the camp menu. Once you start a game, you simply cannot return to the title or exit the game, there are no such options. Not game breaking but inconvenient. Some of the extra options that you unlock after you clear the game once can only be toggled in the main title menu, while others can be toggled in the main title and the camp menu. It would be nice to be able to toggle all of them during camp. *PLOT* Not much to say here, its basically on the same level as a fire emblem game for snes: okay but nothing gamebreaking. It was entertaining enough to keep me interested in the story. The game consists of 30 chapters and there is one branching point after you finish chapter 20. Stage-wise, the maps are basically identical, only differing in which characters join your party (3 will join in route A and 1 will join in route B). *COMBAT AND SYSTEMS* There is the usual weapon triangle and, instead of the magic triangle, there is a "spell effectiveness" mechanic where certain elements are effective against certain species (humans, demons, monsters, undead) or even effective against specific genders (ice vs female and fire vs male, for example). Each character has 10 inventory slots, which can contain weapons, "bought" skills and accessories. You can trade items between characters and gold is shared for everyone. During the intermission before each chapter, you have access to a shop where you can buy (and, later, repair) all the equipment that you own for gold. You can buy weapons, staves, custom skills (using a currency called "SP") and items, such as keys and healing potions. While this is very convenient, it kinda defeats the point of having unique weapons that reverse the triangle, since you can buy those from the shop directly. Also, a strange choice of design has all basic weapons have reach of 2, meaning you can throw spears, axes and even swords at the enemy, making bows much less necessary or even straight up worse, depending on the situation. I would prefer if the weapons were separated and if you could not buy the respective "reverse" weapons, and instead, got them from rewards or other means, to make them more relevant and limited. There are some unique type of weapons: the "strike" and "guard" weapons, and knowing what they do and how they work is crucial to pass some of the later maps. The "strike" weapons are stronger and you do not get countered while attacking. However, they cannot kill the enemy, leaving them with 1 hp. You also get a penalty on your DEF and RES scores and cannot counter-attack while equipping them, making your character VERY vulnerable on enemy phases. The "guard" weapons give more attraction to the unit EQUIPPING them (if you simply have the weapon in the inventory it does not work, it has to be actively equipped) and reduces the dmg they take. Unlike the strike weapons, they increase your DEF and RES scores while equipped and they can counter normally on enemy phases. The downside is that the attack power of these weapons is very low. A "strike" weapon will nullify the damage reduction from the "guard" weapon, so you NEED to have some strike weapons on your characters to counter eventual enemies that come with guard weapons. Besides the "strike" and "guard", you also have the "drain" (recover hp = dmg done) and the "double" (brave) weapons. *CHARACTERS* For most part of the game, you will field between 8-12 characters. This number is pretty decent and will allow you to easily split your party into 2 or 3 groups, depending on the stage. All of the characters are useful, there arent any "unusable" or "absolutely terrible" characters in this game and, while some characters have better growths, others compensate by having better skills, making it even. Talking about skills, there are two distinct types of skills: active and passive. Most characters have 1 active skill and 5 passive skills but some have 6 passive skills. There are over 100 skills in total and they make every character and enemy feel unique, with their own quirks. Promotion works exactly like FE4, where your level does not reset and you simply get stronger and better growths, meaning you should promote IMMEDIATELY when you can. Promotion is unlocked after you finish Chapter 15 and only for characters who are at least lvl 30. The promotion item that you use for each character is the same and it is a PERMANENT item, meaning that you can promote every single character! This is a fantastic change! Character level cap is 60 and attribute cap is 50, with HP capping at 100. Exp is also pretty generous if you kill all the enemy reinforcements, I had all the characters at lvl 57-59 in the final chapter. If you use less characters, it gets even easier. Regarding the class changes... I confess i was a bit disappointed. The character growths DO NOT change depending on the class. Instead, every character gets a +5% growth on each stat after they promote. Each character has 2 class options but the only impact that the classes have (aside from the visuals) is the ability to use different types of weapons. Thats it. There are only 3 classes that give a different skill each but thats all. I still dont know if this was a design choice but I hope the classes get a rework later down the road to make them feel more unique to the player. There are a lot of unique classes as well, especially for the pre-promoted characters. They come with distinct weapon proficiences that you cannot find anywhere else, making them attractive depending on what you like to use. I liked the portraits used for each character, the names and the sprites. However, there is ONE battle sprite that didnt match the portrait, and that happened with poor Darius. I know this is a very small nitpick but it bothered me so much that I ended up choosing the other class for him (gladiator), even if it was straight up worse than the other, simply because the battle sprite shows a BEARDED man, while Darius has no beard. *UNLOCKABLES AND EXTRAS* There are a few achievements in the game and, after you clear the game, you unlock the "EXTRA" options in the menu. You can enable a variety of QoL features, such as 1.5x EXP, stronger enemies and you can even change the BGM for the battles and camp! You get absolutely NO PENALTIES for enable one, or even all, of the options, so use as much as you want! There is another game mode called "Void Trials", where you use a custom pary to clear pre-set stages and get new rewards on each stage clear. This is the ultimate farming mode, where you can replay each stage and farm gold and CP to turn your characters into powerhouses with customized skills and powerful equips. You can even buy stat-boosting items! So, yes, every character will have their chance to shine! *FINAL CONSIDERATIONS* I really loved this game. It is the closest I have ever played to a FE4-like game (which is the game I enjoyed most from the series). The game is very well made but it does need a bit of polish to round up a few rough edges. The developers are consistently updating the game with new skills and balance adjustments on skills/equipments, showing that they care. Is this the best strategy RPG available? Probably not. Am I having fun with it? Hell yeah! Do I recommend the game? Definitely.
So many ideas in this game but overall almost none of them work. The amount of weapons with different skills destroys the weapon triangle entirely, there are times where i make more damage using an axebane weapon against an enemy that's holding a spear. Every weapon is ranged, archers are practically useless. their one tile range is messed up too, this game has 0 balance. Damage makes no sense, magic is broken, enemies do so much damage and yet their accuracy is so bad. The writing is average at best and the story is just not that good overall. Maps are oversaturated with enemies and their placement feels random, combine that with the game crashing at random times and it makes the entire experience insufferable. I don't mind the use of AI so long as you make the characters interesting, not only are there no interactions between characters, their art is bland, they have 0 dialogue or personality. I've played a bunch of srpg games by now and this one is by far the worse, i usually don't go so hard on indie games but i really don't feel passion on this one, and the game pissed me off the more i kept playing. Do not buy this, there are far better srpg maker games out there trust me.
