At first I thought 'wtf, is this a movie?' cause the intro is quite long but as I could move freely it was absolutely amazing If you're into brutalism and megastructures this is the game for you! You can't really do much besides walking around but the graphics are stunning, I hit F12 waaaay to often Soundeffects also fit It's a very atmospheric game I'm definitely replaying it cause imo it's to short and I'd like to enjoy the solitude of the surroundings once more
slow in a bad way. i like slow games, i loved naissance, i loved death stranding, i loved layers of fear... etc etc. but this just didnt hit.
Really cool game just as it is. The negative comments are unwarranted. 10/10
Fascinating experience, but it is an experience.
not good.
Frustrating experience. I spent my time wandering in this game locked in a meta commentary with myself. Is the lack of something to say in an artistic medium, in and of itself, something to say? By presenting something without comment, are you forcing the observer to draw conclusions? Are those conclusions in and of themselves worthy of discussion? Is that the point? Is the point that there is no point? Let me shatter all that for you right now. This is a tech demo by someone with talent. It's nice; truly some stunning visuals. But it's not a deep commentary or an experience. It's a set of art pieces strung together without commentary. I believe "walking simulators" can be their own genre in the art form of video games; but this one really pushed the limits of what we should allow to call a game. Thumbs down becomes a thumbs up if you go in with managed expectations and get it for less than a dollar. At $6? No chance.
Game is Free on Itch. Don't Buy on Steam. no fps cap so you'll get 10 trillion fps at all times 10 minute unskippable intro cutscene 9 minutes of unskippable black screen intro with a few flashing lights and barely immersive audio lots of nice grey architecture sporadic use of colored fog lots of assets have gaps or have clipping issues no alternative pathways, all fade to black triggers go to the same place no pausing or options or sound control no exit game at the end just a black screen not really thought provoking or interesting, worse than NaissanceE visually but doesn't have annoying heartbeat audio. completely abandoned by the developer day 1
Some of the most inspiring setpieces I've seen in a video game! If only they were part of a more fleshed-out adventure...
A tech demo, and an overpriced one.
Don't get this at full price, buy it on sale or try it on Itch.IO as others have stated, where it's free. Fugue In Void is another in the long list of atmospheric walking simulators in an ever growing genre. I use the term "walking sim" incredibly loosely here because for even the very small amount of time it takes to complete this game, there's hardly any walking to be done. The environments are some of your typical liminal spaces, ranging from almost desert-world beige landscapes akin to Kairo, to more industrial sections and light manipulated corridors with kaleidoscopic effects that take some inspiration from games like NaissanceE. All things considered however, there isn't really a great deal to look at since most areas are tightly closed off with nothing in the immediate horizons to be seen. Any potential aesthetics are limited to exactly what's in front of you and that isn't really all that much to begin with because the detailing is fairly broad and not particularly abstract. On top of that, each location is hurriedly jumped to and you'll likely spend no more than 30 seconds to a minute in any given area (save for maybe the first two or so locations). There's just too many fade to black sequences where the area and feel just completely changes to something different and unrelated to the last, or you're simply locked in place / boxed in a small room staring at something waiting for the next fade to black cut in order to carry on...all exploration is non-existent. And the intro "cutscene" is 10 minutes, long, unskippable, and there's no meaningful context, explanation, or narrative linkage as to anything you're even seeing. When you think you're about to be introduced to a brand new area with larger landscapes in an urban city, the game just ends instead with a black screen that has to be forcibly alt-f4'd out of. It only takes about 30-45 minutes to complete a run and you don't really even get to do anything in that space of time. There's a bit of incredibly mild walking through a street-like complex at the start but it's merely an A to B funnel with no different beaten paths. I got it for £0.59 in the sale and I wouldn't go paying any more than that. This could have been a YouTube video and you could have gotten the exact same experience.
