You set the mark points then watch your troops in action. For me game is very boring and takes a lot of time and patience just to play single mission that it's not worth it. You can run simulation and see the outcome, but really it makes the experience even slower. On plus side there's plenty of actions to choose from so strategic element is pretty complex nonetheless in practice you will just narrow your choices to a few simple actions. Graphic wise game is set in cybernetic like simulation so it looks mostly like MGS VR missions. Music is ok and feels a bit nostalgic to me. You might find some enjoyment if you're into strategy games.
WARNING We will be deactivating our Frozen Synapse Prime dedicated servers on 11th March 2021. This means that all Online Modes will be unplayable and will be innaccessible from the Main Menu. You will still be able to enjoy all single-players modes and the game will not be removed from your library to download. We'd just like to thank everyone who has enjoyed Frozen Synapse Prime since it's release back in 2014. Double Eleven
A Bad First Time Experience
Frozen Synapse Prime is a turn based shooter and this is my first time experiencing the genre. I understand that this game is a remake of "Frozen Synapse". But I've never played or even heard of it and these types of games are not up my alley. This game overall is bad. The controls and the UI is so weird that it makes you go insane and wonder how can someone even play this. Design choices are even worse and too basic and boring for me to even comment about them. Your soldiers and the enemies only have different colors and that's all for the characters... I don't want to comment on the black and white, almost non-existent backgrounded maps. The singleplayer campaign only exists in the name and they shut the multiplayer servers so I can't comment about it but I'm very interested in its multiplayer since I have no idea how can a turn based shooter can have a multiplayer... Would it be like chess but not fun? Another main issue was the "Prime System/ System Primed". It is boring and frustrating as it loads up the possibility every single time . I don't know the particular why this got removed from Steam but I can tell that they definitely did a ton of things wrong. 1/10 (I would've given this game a 0/10 but they at least tried and put effort into it.) Edit: So original "Frozen Synapse" was published by another dev team called Mode 7 and this game was made PSVita by this developer team. That explains the awful controls and UI system in a way.
Original is way better but its an ok game to kill time I guess
Compared to the original this game wasn't worth getting when the servers were running and not worth playing now even if it was free.
The game is selled as multiplayer game, but it actually doesnt work for multiplayer because they dont have a server running. If you buy it, know that you will be able to play only the single player mode. I tried to get a refund but they denied it. Unfortunately, they are not a serious company at all. Liers
A criminally underrated game, this is one of my all time favourites. You won't get screwed over by RNG, like most other strategy games, instead your poor decisions will be the cause of your failure. Its a solid game with good mechanics and a challenging campaign. Hopefully one day they will bring back the multiplayer as it had a neat feature where you could take your turn and then come back a week later to see if your opponent has made his move. Its kind of like playing chess through the post meaning you can play against people even if they are not online at the same time as you.
Unfortunately the controls are abysmal. In the first Frozen Synapse game (which I loved and completed twice) I was able to precisely control what my units were doing. But in this sequel it's a mess. I played both tutorials and two missions and simply could not get the units to do what I intended. The UI feels clumsy and unintuitive, for example I have to press x or double-right-click to bring up the command menu. Pressing e twice will end the turn but then I have to wait for the enemies turn to be calculated and afterwards move the mouse and click 'see outcome' to see the outcome of the turn. Also I love that it's 3d now but instead of offering a better view or easier understanding of the battlefield or at least adding some immersion the way it's implemented just made it harder for me to read the battlefield. Overall you're just better off to play the 1st Frozen Synapse. I'd only recommend this sequel to hardcore fans of the first one.
I can't enter the servers
