Frog Detective 1: The Haunted Island

Lighthearted walking simulator all about talking to characters with very silly dialogue to figure out a (not so) terrifying mystery. You have a very useful magnifying glass to inspect the suspects real close with, like a real second best detective. There isn't really a puzzle element to this game, or anything else that would create difficulty, it's just a nice relaxing experience. Great game to beat in one sitting, with a fairly short playtime of around 60 to 90 minutes. It is also a great experience on the Steam Deck. I highly recommend all three games in the franchise, which are all quite similar, with some new and recurring characters, and a new environment and mystery to solve.

Charming little game about a detective frog who's trying to solve a spooky mystery on an island. Gameplay is point and click, walking around and speaking with people. You get items from people, to then give to other people. Wait I keep saying people, I mean ANIMALS. You speak with the local animals, though Mystery Monkey's clipboard talks about a man in a suit. So maybe there are people in this world, who knows? Game is 30 minutes, easy to understand and the best part is character design and interactions with the many different animals. I would have liked the game to be a bit longer, but it's Part 1 of however many (3 maybe?). I got this game on sale this summer, but it's usually $5. I saw one little easter egg but wish there was more things to check out besides the bugs. Who knows, maybe it's improved upon in Part 2? Overall, it's a middle of the road cute game that I don't mind following along with our main character, but it's not in anyway a deep game. Just something to scratch that itch whenever you need to decompress and have a chill moment to yourself.

Frog Detective is the g̶r̶e̶a̶t̶e̶s̶t̶ second greatest detective on the force, but even he is tried when a haunted island gets spooky. This game is utterly ridiculous in the best way. It looks like it was made with MS-Paint, but in a charming way. The dialogue goes so far into absurd it becomes quotable. A simple game, but one I loved.
