Deswegen Daumen runter!
I came to this game with an open mind. My mind is now closed and disappointed. This game has an interesting concept but sadly it does not live up to its full potential. Here is a short list of what I would consider the games Good and Bad features. Good: - Nice art style Bad: - Clunky movement - The player character can get stuck on walls and sloped surfaces. Movement is slowed upon landing which is quite annoying when the character is moving quickly in the air. The placeable objects are spammable and make the mechanic pointless as you can fly almost anywhere. - Repetetive levels - The levels are quite large but very similar and mostly empty, this makes it hard to know where to go and can get quite tedious after a while I would not recommend this game in its current state or at its current price. I would wait for either a large discount or come back when the game is more polished.
The game does not appear to have full controller support, as advertised. I'm using a wired xbox 360 controller, and it was unplayable for me. The first thing I did was to look at the discussion forum for the game to see if anyone else had posted about the issue. I noticed that another player posted last month about the very same thing, and that, like me, the player was wondering what he or she was doing wrong. However, there was no assistance offered to this player, so I added my experience to the mix and went looking elsewhere. The next thing I did was to look at the reviews to see if anyone else had pointed out a controller issue. After reviewing them all, I came to the conclusion that the one negative review mentioning the control issue was probably accurate, and the positive reviews must be inaccurate, based on gameplay with a mouse, or for an entirely different game. I went back to the game, determined to figure it out. Just to get into the game, I had to use the "generate random save name" option, because the game would not allow me to simply overwrite or continue from the save game I already had. Once I was in the game, I couldn't get back out without using alt+tab and closing the game window. The escape key didn't work, and none of the controller buttons/triggers helped me to exit the game. I figured out that pressing up on the left joystick and A created a stunted tiny jump that didn't seem purposeful and that I could double hop to gain a tiny bit more altitude, but not near enough to reach the heights that were apparently necessary. I did decipher that the displayed tip instructing use of the E key to enter the first level could be accomplished with the B button. Nothing else was possible with the controller. I switched to the mouse to see what it was exactly I supposed to be able to do. Could I fly, wall-jump, sprint, build stairs, or throw fireballs? Did I have a magnet to draw all the shiny little loot my way? That wasn't helpful, either. I thought for about a minute that perhaps the game really had partial controller support and that I could play using a combination of the two, but that was a train wreck. I sat there looking at the screen for a moment trying to figure out what I was missing, and I noticed the little puffy character sliding to the right in very small increments across the bridge. Well, that was new at least. I then tried jumping over to the wall, thinking that maybe I could jump up the wall, but instead my character got stuck to the wall, eventually plummeting to a very confusing death. Artistically, I was unimpressed, but of course, I didn't get very far in the game, so there may have been some spectacular audiovisual experience resulting in a rebirth of the senses at some point, but it's unlikely from what I saw. I never could figure out how to use the controller to complete the first level. The only thing I did learn when attempting to figure out a working controller scheme was that pressing left shift on my keyboard five times is the shortcut to activate sticky keys in Windows 10, so thanks for that. In closing, I simply cannot recommend this game in its current state.
Best two dollars I've ever spent. At first I thought this was just another attempt at a platformer game by a newbie developer. Now I have realized that it's a way of life The first few minutes of climbing I laughed at the absurdity of how high you could go. Then I needed to know if it ever ended. After nearly 30 minutes I was hooked. I almost fell, and if I hadn't caught myself, I don't know what I would've done. And it was at that moment that I had realized I had gone too deep to stop now. Like a void the lavender sky and the wormholes that I made one and another sucked me in like a void. It was now my sole mission in life to climb higher and higher as I just contemplated my life, my existence. My only friend and companion was the imaginary Maggie Marmalade whom I had never seen. I wondered if she was nice. If I ever did find her if she would like me, or if I was too far gone, for even an imaginary person whom I only knew in name to possibly associate herself with. I wonder if I will ever reach a top, and if I will be satisfied when I find it. Frizzy is love. Frizzy is life.
This is a quirky little game with unique controls. It took a little bit to get used to but only a few seconds. After that I was having a blast! Good value too. Good job.
Please fix the controls ... keyboard is not working and xbox controller needs mouse to perform some moves. Rage quit.
So far this game is amazing, I love the balloon mechanics and the developer's humor. I'll write a more substantial review when I finish the game.
"The most important thing about Frizzy’s gameplay, to us, is the way the controls feel. We believe that in a platformer the controls must be absolutely perfect." I can't believe the developer actually said that. About this game. They couldn't even get the main menu controls right, mouse doesn't work, up and down are reversed. no need to even talk about the inconsistent janky controls the game itself has. Then they have doublejump in a game where the main mechanic is pretty much flying around. For what purpose?
5.9/10 - Simple Platformer with Some Surprisingly Unique Gameplay. This game is definitely influenced by the Nintendo Age; classic Mario coin collecting with a twist. This time you are collecting hearts throughout the map; once you collect enough you can move advance levels. (Not the twist) The overall "story" and main objective of collecting a ton of hearts doesn't really do it for me, but it's by no means a bad game. It's just more of a cute and extremely casual platformer. The graphics are fun and remind me of the Nintendo 64! The gameplay really made me give this a positive review; as a little ball of fur you have to launch yourself via static electricity to greater heights in order to collect all of the required hearts. It really reminds me of portal but instead of going through the portals you are catapulted by them. I personally would have loved to focus on this element and puzzle objectives as opposed to monotonous collection of hearts. It's worth $1-3; I wouldn't pay full price... but I don't like platformers.
