I don't know why there are so many negative reviews for this. This game is pretty good and has a really good foundation for more to be built on. It is in Early Access, and the developer seems active, pumping out regular content and update, as well as listening to community feedback and suggestions. I think that's very important to recognise, and so long as you know it's going to be a little rough around the edges, the actual gameplay experience underneath is pretty good. The good: Haven't seen anyone mention the large weapon selection. There are tons of weapons, if I were to guess, probably 20+. You can be an archer, use an axe, sword, sword and shield, dual wield, two handed weapons, etc. Reach matters, and damage matters, they aren't just aesthetic. Large variety in environments, and all of them are unique. Different types of objectives and missions. And they all are relatively short (5-10 min) which I like. You can hire the army of your choosing, and outfit yourself with the equipment of your choosing. I like the tavern and base environments, as well as the blacksmith. The combat is okay. It isn't great, it also isn't terrible. Stabs actually work every time, and that's rare in many games. The sound and hit boxes seem pretty good. Blocking is difficult, and could probably use some work. It is good that the enemies don't seem to block very often, because the challenge in this game comes from getting swarmed. There is a stagger mechanic which is pretty neat. I have noticed that you can spam your way through most enemies, however this isn't a game of high-skill 1 on 1s, it is meant to be an army vs army grand combat game and I can appreciate slaying my way through droves of enemies as well as having the challenge in being not surrounded and overwhelmed. The bad: I would say that the spam-swinging in combat to victory is probably the worse aspect of the gameplay. As mentioned above, I think it's okay in this style of game where you have many enemies. If they blocked you effectively and often, the game would be waaaay too difficult. This can probably be tweaked and refined overtime to require a little more finesse and skill, and it doesn't take away enough from the combat to make this game not worth it. I had other cons and they all got fixed in a patch! Really shows the dedication and activity of the developer! All in all I have played most of the VR combat games out there, this one is pretty good, unique for what it is doing (army battles, and ones you control), and so long as you know it is early access and still a little rough around the edges I think you'll enjoy yourself. It also has a lot of replayability. It is also worth mentioning that I have not encountered any game-ending bugs, crashes or tech issues, using an HTC Vive.

This game is very bare bones at the moment. Controls are extremely bad on the Index. The game uses a toggle grip setup for everything so it always feels unnatural to grab things. Releasing items when toggled to your hand is a pain on Index and very unintuitive. In my opinion, just grabbing the item when I'm grabbing the controller and release the item when I release the controller, is a more intuitive system. Hand placement on the weapons when gripped is in a awkward static position. Two handing weapons didn't work at all on index. Combat is very stale. You can swing your sword wildly without any thought and still end up killing 50 enemy ai. There's little to no weight to the weapons you end up using, so its easy to kill entire hordes of enemies by yourself. The ai react to your hits with unsatisfying animations. Your able to swing weapons right through enemy swords and shields making them stagger and easy to kill. The levels you get to play through feel like half baked test levels. There's no real progression in the game. As for the actual content the game has to offer: you'll experience it all within the first 5-10 mins. There's no point in playing this game and there's absolutely nothing in this game that'll keep you playing over time. This should not have been released for $20. You're actually getting robbed if you buy this game, so don't.
Video Impressions with Commentary // Oculus Rift S // GTX 1060 (6GB): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vk19N-kQb4 My Initial Thoughts: I notice a lot of the negative reviews and problems are people with Index headsets. I had no real issues with the Oculus Rift S and Touch controllers. Some area's of the game are still a bit fiddly and janky, but overall the combat and game-play was pretty fun, and its not a bad price for a game of this calibre. It also felt really nice to be able to command a small army in VR and not a bad effort from a SOLO developer. (Check out my Video above for my FULL impressions)
maybe if it came out in 2016 for now ill keep an eye on its development but ill stick with tog for now
Ive play it with the Oculus Quest and the Virtual Desktop App. To play it without cable. And I Think it could be nice. There are bugs sure and of Course they could working at the performance. But its EA! and for EA is it good.
Watch my video here https://youtu.be/QheUoWPGvBU Played using the Valve Index Graphics look OK. Some times the atmosphere of it all immerses me. Yes I see low textures and pop ins. Nothing new there and this is an early access game after all. I personally like the animations and how the NPC's grab there chest when the they die. Gameplay is fun. You can buy mercenaries and lead them into battle with the rise of your arms. Tell them to hold or freedom or charge. You can say that to all or split your force by sending commands to your archers or troops. You can buy weapons and in the blacksmiths you are spoilt of choice. You can pick up dead foes weapons up in battle. There is many types of missions to pick from. AI isn't to bad and do listen to your commands. Audio is OK. Overral a fun game, which I see alot of hope for!
I am really excited about this game and the direction it seems to be going in at present. It is early access and because of that is obviously rough around the edges. When you first log on you are placed into a tutorial that teaches you a few basic moves. After this you are in your camp. A few tents litter the location centred around a campfire. Opposite the tents from the fir are two tables and a chest. One table is your contract options, missions you choose with different parameters. Location, reward, number of company and renown. The next table is a choice between Blacksmith, Tavern and sandbox. blacksmith, buy weapons for your ranks. Tavern, recruit men for your ranks. sandbox, editable missions. The chest appears in the blacksmith as well as the camp. you buy weapons in the blacksmith drop them in the chest. When at the camp site you can walk up to you men to change their weapons from the chest. Missions There are three missions to choose and to the right you can select a rank which I suppose makes the mission easier or harder(The tutorial only shows the art of killing). Once you complete a mission it is replaced with a different mission. When you choose a mission, depending on the mission, you will control the men in your ranks. The way in which this is done is nearly perfect. You can select All, Archers or Infantry. Once you select one of these you will get another three options, Hold, Freedom or Charge. They each explain themselves pretty well so no need to get into detail there. You get to either find a high place and direct the battle from an advantage point or get stuck in with your men and fight. I have enjoyed both aspects from of this. Weapon placement on you body is near enough there so I don't need to think about where I put my hand to grab my sword. So after completion of missions you are rewarded with coinage, renown and every so often you increase in rank. I have not figured out how renown benefits you but the coinage comes in handy buying infantry from the tavern and weapons from the blacksmith. I love history and playing this game has put me in the boots of a leader in a band of men fighting for fame and honour just like the books I read. If a multiplayer option was to be implemented I can see this being in my FAV'S for a long time. As it stands I really enjoy playing and it has knocked a few games of the top five in my eyes.
The core aspect of the game is enjoyable. The combat could use a bit of work and everything needs to be a bit more fleshed out. But overall It's pretty enjoyable. Can't wait to see where this game goes.
awful game, playing on the index, this game doesnt have sense, physics are awful all weapons are the same The idea is good but please, don't buy this game (for the moment at least) this is not even an early access at this point, it is a prehistoric access
It needs work like all EA games, but its got a rock solid foundation.
