About
As the designer behind this, I suggest playing this alone where you can take your time and experience this.
I'm hoping this adds a bit of positivity and brightness into your life.
This is intended for "First Person Shooter" players who use WASD controls... kind of... you'll see.
---------------------------------------------------------------
The gameplay for PC players is looking around with the mouse and moving with the WASD keys, kind of.
Players can use a controller, just use the joysticks for movement and looking around. There are Haptics for the controller
---------------------------------------------------------------
As you move through the game, you'll "Discover" things and through that discovery, I hope to take you on a journey of looking inside your life.
"Forwards" is an expression of my personal journey as a designer.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Average playtime is about a minute with the game instantly starting and immediately closing when it's over. There is no menu.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Some people have gotten stuck and taken longer and some people have gone through missing parts of it. I took the consideration of making the game easier to playthrough at the potential cost of players going through it the wrong way. Still, I hope the majority of players are able to experience the fullness of this game.

This is an prototype for an experiential linear narrative walking sim.

The Backwards level in The Beginner's Guide. I altered the level, the narrative, the controls, lighting and audio, that I hope, tells it's own story and differentiates it from that level.
The environment feeling is suppose to be that of the The Stanley Parable which is the same developer as The Beginner's Guide

Quite literally a copy of a level from the game The Beginner's Guide. The idea is cool, sure, and it's fine to make your own version of it. [strike]But at least credit the obvious inspiration.[/strike] (UPDATE: The developer made a small section to credit the inspiration, which is really cool of them) I still can't recommend it when this is the whole experience (takes like 1 minute to finish) and the frame rate is so all over the place. The premise is enjoyable, but the frame rate is what kills it for me, at the moment. Still looking forward to the full narrative version of this game though. Hopefully it can be improved and some new ideas can be added!
This is a very short but interesting experimental game with a neat narrative-driven twist that you probably won't get by watching it alone. I strongly suggest you take the very short time it requires to play this and try it for yourself.

My gambling addict friend said if I post a review on Forwards and it gets 350 likes and 150 Awards that he will buy me a case of beer and some vodka . So I'm just gonna leave this here.
+ no menus supports the intended experience nicely + lighting used as a guide AND as narrative support + short and quick but powerful experience + touching, makes you think - no audio: footstep sfx or (royalty free) backgroundmusic would round off the experience - the controller rumble when moving forward: maybe disable it when input is with a keyboard, also a visual cue for those without controllers, otherwise players could think that controls won't work BEFORE they recognize it is intentional
Great and very short.
I'd recommend this if you want a 2 minute pick-me-up. It is not particularly thought-provoking, but it is cute.
A very short game, obviously not that crazy cause its just a nice message of the duality of the past and future and the hope and dreams that are cultivated through them. Def needs some better optimization but its not too bad, just some stutter for a minute or two of walking.
short&cute
