Abandoned and unfinished. Alas. The game is shelved, due to low sales on other platforms there are no plans to continue work. In other words: this game will never leave early access.
This is a WINNER! Definitely buy this if you enjoy the style. Repixel8 had already shown passion with the previous one (Formula Retro Racing) but this is a major step up. After a few weeks playing it on Steam, I also bought it on Switch (if this isn't a give-away as to how good a time I'm having witht his one). So what changed? Aside from the obvious (more types of cars, more tracks, more locations, more game types...) I feel the physics are slightly different even for the same cars and, despite the original one being an excellent playthrough, I feel this one pushed the arcade feel a tad further. Also, collisions are way more forgiving, which goes in the same direction. Anyway: just go buy it and show Repixl8 some love (I'm absolutely not affiliated with them, just a guy who wanted Virtua Racing on the PC, and these guys are delivering something different which, really compares in terms of fun to be had, and this new version continues to push the envelope). The below list is only my wishlist for developers (fellow gamers, don't let them fool you: this game is FUN as hell as is). Graphical options ******************** Some computers run slower, your games are only available fullscreen. This is an easy one. Menus ******** - Make them skippable - Make them loop. (if you're all the way up, moving up makes you go to the last option at the bottom, and vice-versa). Control customization ************************* Include an option to remap controls. Most games with gear shifting use the L&R bumper buttons, it would be nice to be able to do that). Real time gear shifting ************************** This one is super important: gear shifting lags. When you change gears (esp. downwards) it takes time before the next input is accepted by the game, which feels laggy. Please make sure it answers immediately and shifts as many times as the button is pressed. Race starts *************** - Give the option between rolling start and standing start. - In rolling start mode, give some sort of countdown, or start a gear higher, because you always start with a screaming engine and it takes a moment before the higher shift input is registered (which is linked to my previous point here above). Drifting ******** Drifting mechanics with the Daytona cars: I tried the old brake&gas trick, it seemed to work but wasn't too clear for me. Maybe this needs to be more accentuated, or explained somewhere in the controls. Sounds ********* - The car sound could be different, and most of all: louder. - Voices: there could be a few more samples, like "This is the last lap", or to acknowledge a personal best. Music ******** - It would be great if the music sped up (or got more intense in any sort of way) during the last lap. Bugs ****** - Manual gear mode with the Daytona car doesn't work yet, but I guess you'll be working on that. - The player's car's position on the little map tends to disappear when you get to the first place. Me being a diva - "Snap back to axis" à la Virtua Racing ****************************************************************** This is such a fan boy request, but it would be awesome to implement an optional "Automatic snap back to axis" sort of magnet-like feature, much like Virtua Racing, so your car gets back to the axis of the road when you steer. That is really typical of the Virtua Racing gameplay feel, and since it's no longer supported, it would be cool to find something similar in modern releases. Me being a diva - Golden Gate - next time ************************************************ If there's one callback to Virtua Racing that tugs at the heartstrings, it's the Golden Gate on the San Francisco track. Unfortunately, it's right after a hairpin turn and by the time you see it, you're on it. It's a shame it doesn't come at the end of a stretch so we can admire it from afar. I warned ya - this is me being a diva :)
Almost 3 hours later - My nephew and ,i we love this game so much ,He keeps asking to play it :D it is actually fun in vr mode ,Seems like a nostalgic take on racing games but The drifting cars are not fun with VR Headsets ,Maybe re consider that part and see if you can improve drifting for headsets ,overall its a great game and lastly since this is early access there seems to be alot of improvements needed .
I would love this game if it weren't for two major issues: 1. The handling. For cars with drift handling, they feel way too twitchy to me, they feel a lot like drifting in first 3 Ridge Racer games, and that's not a compliment. For cars with grip handling, they understeer like a boat, making tracks like San Francisco agonizing to drive around. 2. The difficulty, or lack thereof. Even on "Extreme" difficulty, the AI opponents serve better as obstacles than proper opponents. I can consistently lap the back 3 or 4 racers before the end of a 4 lap race. The game is certainly a looker. The visuals are superb, and really give that Virtua Racing vibe I'm sure they were going for. I'm sure this looks great in VR, too (as it does support VR). It's too bad that the game doesn't really pose any sort of challenge beyond trying not to crash into other cars as you make your way into first place sometime in the second lap.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Love the game. Lots of tracks but hope there's more to come! A refined and beautiful tribute to Virtua racing and Daytona! Great graphics, great sound, great gameplay!
It's a bit of a buggy mess. Some events are straight up unwinnable. Some design choices make little sense (why have an aggressive out-of-time counter in a lapped race?). Would need a lot more work.
