A passionate and community-driven Developer and a wonderfully unique atmospheric experience, Foreign Sun is blowing me away. Many moons ago FinalSceneDev decided to remake their game Biomass (which is wonderful, and you should check it out!) and promised it for free to all of his current Biomass players. Now, some years later, Foreign Sun has released not as a remake but a full-blown game taking place in the same world and *technically* after the events of Biomass. Foreign Sun is what I would describe as an atmospheric metroidvania rpg; it takes place in *very post*-apocalyptic flooded world where many disparate groups of survivors try to make sense of their world, and eek out a living. Its art is beautiful with a sort of odd 'hopeful and eldritch' aspect to it. The writing is good and varied, seeing multiple factions and multi-faceted npcs engaging with an overall convoluted plotline that could take several playthroughs to fully unravel. The combat is pretty interesting with dodging and blocking existing, but also relies on an interesting mechanic called 'clashing' which has you timing your attacks to deflect enemy attacks and lower their stamina. The enemy types are rather varied as well, with various 'monsters' as well as a handful of different human enemies and a slew of different loadouts for them to use. Overall a truly fun and unique experience brough to us by an awesome dev who really cares about their fans! I can't recommend Foreign Sun (or it's predecessor Biomass) more!
Foreign Sun is an underrated gem that people should play. The combat feels so good to master. Learning the boss patterns so I know what to clash with or dodge was just awesome. The funny thing is, you don’t have to engage with clashing if you don’t want to. Those players will end up dodging a lot more, but as far as I know Foreign Sun doesn’t force you to clash if you don’t want to. I love the pixel art style and music are sick af. Though at the moment some of the areas are too dark. And how the story progression is laid out is great, but it could be a barrier for new players. You will experience terrible scenarios, but that’s ok. All you have to do is notice what is happening with the story and how the plot is playing out. Again, Foreign Sun is great please play this gem. I talk more about it in my review: https://youtu.be/Z5yb76Tj5KY
An expanded and better looking version of Biomass, amplifying both the strengths and weaknesses of the original game. There's some great boss fights in here for those that enjoy soulslike titles. Full video review: https://youtu.be/Lmz5nMd23xs
