A one of a kind shooter... visually striking, the gravity thing/shape of the world looks and plays in a very fun way. For me the puzzle / time trial ranking aspect falls flat, so it's not for me, but the game is really cool. Recommend giving it a try at least.
fun inde games .. easy to play .. difficult to get S score .. addictive game ! a must have !
This is barely a thumbs down, but I just can't recommend this game. The visuals are there, the music is there, and I think there's a really cool fundamental idea there, the game just isn't... fun. Every new mechanic that would unlock I'd go "Oh, this must be the mechanic that ties everything together," yet it never was. The game is so close to being good though it's hard to come up with helpful criticisms, and I think the problems are all just in that last 10%. The ship is fine to control, but the obstacles and enemy placements feel clunky to navigate around. The "billiards," mechanic of using gravity to steer your shots is cool, but not being able to aim your main weapon feels very limiting, and the slow speed of the secondary weapon felt out of place against most of the enemies in the game. In general it felt like I had very little player agency in how I solved levels, which is a shame because the game has a really neat vibe that I would have liked to spend more time in.
Flowing Lights, developed and published by gFaUmNe, is a distinctive hybrid that merges twin-stick bullet-hell shooting with physics-based puzzle design. Rather than delivering a traditional arcade shooter built purely on reflexes and memorization, it introduces terrain manipulation and gravity-influenced projectiles as core mechanics. The result is a game that demands both precision and planning, encouraging players to approach each encounter as a tactical problem rather than a simple firefight. At the center of the experience is a compact spacecraft navigating over irregular terrain while engaging enemy formations. Unlike conventional top-down shooters where bullets travel in straight lines across open space, Flowing Lights integrates gravity and environmental contours into combat. Shots curve, accelerate, or shift direction depending on the landscape beneath them. This mechanic transforms every level into a contained puzzle arena. Players must anticipate how their projectiles will behave and use the terrain strategically, sometimes slinging shots around obstacles or positioning themselves to exploit natural arcs. Mastery comes not only from dodging dense enemy fire but from understanding the subtle physics that govern offensive potential. The game is structured around more than two hundred handcrafted combat scenarios. Each stage is self-contained and designed with specific mechanics or enemy arrangements in mind. Rather than sprawling levels, encounters are concise and focused, allowing for quick experimentation. Instant restarts remove frustration, reinforcing the trial-and-error philosophy. Success often requires several attempts, as players gradually decipher the optimal positioning, timing, and attack patterns needed to clear a stage efficiently. This design fosters a strong loop of iteration and refinement. Enemy variety plays a significant role in maintaining engagement. Some adversaries rely on predictable movement patterns, while others aggressively track the player or flood the screen with projectiles. Boss encounters escalate complexity, combining bullet-hell density with spatial awareness challenges imposed by terrain. The physics system ensures that combat never feels entirely static; even familiar enemy types can pose new threats depending on the shape of the battlefield. Scoring mechanics further enhance replayability. Each stage awards performance ranks based on efficiency, combo chains, and speed of completion. High scores require not just survival but calculated aggression and optimized route planning. Online leaderboards provide competitive incentive for players who enjoy refining their skills beyond simple completion. The ranking system transforms individual levels into repeatable skill challenges rather than one-time hurdles. Visually, Flowing Lights embraces a clean neon aesthetic reminiscent of classic arcade shooters. Bright projectile effects contrast against dark backgrounds, ensuring readability even during chaotic bullet patterns. Terrain is abstract but functional, designed primarily to support the physics system rather than to provide narrative context. The soundtrack complements the action with energetic electronic tracks that maintain momentum without overpowering gameplay. While the presentation is minimalist, it effectively serves the clarity required in precision-focused encounters. Flowing Lights is not a conventional shooter. Its reliance on physics-driven mechanics introduces a learning curve that may initially frustrate players expecting straightforward twin-stick action. However, those willing to engage with its systems will discover a layered and inventive approach to the genre. The combination of bullet-hell intensity, puzzle-like stage design, and ranking-based replayability creates a distinctive experience that rewards persistence and creative thinking. Ultimately, Flowing Lights stands out as an experimental yet cohesive entry in the indie shooter landscape. By blending arcade reflex challenges with environmental strategy, it offers a thoughtful reinterpretation of bullet-hell design. Players seeking a traditional shooter may find its mechanics unconventional, but those interested in a skill-based, physics-enhanced combat system will likely appreciate its depth and originality. Rating: 6/10
Literally the definition of a hidden game. Game has a good tutorial and as long as there's a decent number of levels it's an easy recommend. I am going to go out on a limb and say if the trailer is interesting you should go for it. It's shockingly good for a casual friendly bullet hell. It has a neat couple of combo mechanics.
Super unique and very fun. Those who enjoy puzzles and those who enjoy shoot em ups will both find a lot to like in this game. Edit: If a DLC with more levels were released I would buy it in a heartbeat.
This game is so pure. It's fully committed to a single idea and executes it well. It also makes a point of using the entire range of the analog stick, you shouldn't always press 100% in any given direction (almost feels a bit like F-Zero GX or Monkeyball in that way, or the boost ball in Metroid Prime). The ship, bullet, and enemy movements are smooth as butter. Every segment is a SHMUP puzzle, not requiring crazy reflexes, more about figuring out the right strategy (and then some reflexes/control to execute). The lack of reviews is depressing, I feel lucky I stumbled onto this. Bought it on sale but now that I've played a bit I kinda wish I had payed full price to support the dev. Definitely give it a shot if you were on the fence like me.
