Once I got the hang of some of the gameplay mechanics, I really began to enjoy myself. Pathing the boats through to each port is nice and easy but I still don't really understand how the city gets power. The description of the game actually makes this all much more confusing as it seems like there is a whole extra layer of strategy that I don't understand. I would love to see a little more explanation inside the game. https://youtu.be/pO3Qicg8fcM
I want to like this game. I'm putting it down for now, but I will likely return to it after a while and see if I understand and enjoy it better. TL;DR: 6/10, buy it for $5 or less if it's your thing. The game is beautiful. I really like the appearance, and the boats going through the canals scratch that itch that draw me to city builders in the first place. I like the colour pallet, and the game has pretty decent visibility. I would like to see some accessibility options added for the building grid and controls, but overall the game looks good. The gameplay concept is simple: dig out canals in the terrain to get ships to their ports, then build buildings around the ports to get points. If you get enough points, you can move on to the next section. The canal digging is fun, and I think it works pretty well overall. Boats have a tendency to get stuck on the banks and ports, but giving them a little nudge with the terrain tool seemed to do the trick. I enjoyed setting up a network of canals to connect the ports, and the time limit on each level is a decent reminder not to spend too long digging through a mountain to create the "most optimal path". By far, my least favourite part of the game is the building mechanic, which is unfortunate because it seems to be a major part of the game's design. There's no real discernible reason as to why you can put buildings in certain places, and why you can't place them in other areas. There's a long, narrow path in the ocean in the first level where you can put plots, but it doesn't seem like there's a reason for it, and you can't put plots elsewhere in the water. Similarly, there seems to be no way to tell how many points you will get from a building. Large and medium buildings seem to yield consistent points, but the smallest plots give anything from 20 to 100, and I have no idea which one it'll be until I've placed the plot. You also can't delete plots or buildings, so you must be careful not to box in a port or ship or risk losing access to it permanently. There doesn't seem to be a way to prioritize which buildings get built first, so placing too many plots at once is a sure-fire way to get nothing finished. This especially sucks for the small plot skyscrapers, as they take forever to build and give you no points until they're completely finished. The ports do automatically place plots - sometimes - which leaves the game seemingly confused on whether it's supposed to be a transportation network puzzle game or a more Skylines-like city builder. If it was up to me, I'd have the buildings be fully automated and focus more on the canals portion of the game. As it is, it makes for a frustrating experience trying to balance the different buildings within the time constraint. As I prefaced this review, I want to like this game. I'm not giving it a "No", but I wouldn't recommend picking up the game at full price - $11 US isn't the steepest, but even a full playthrough will give you a few hours at most. This game is worth $5 in my opinion, at least in its current state. A polishing of the building mechanics and/or a more comprehensive guide would help a lot.
The game is super relaxing. Unlike other city builders, I can change the landscape in run time when digging a canal. Levels have more adventures. the buildings are growing around the hot ports, It would be more fun if there are more interactions. The aesthetic and atmosphere are great! The game is nice to play, but I have no idea how to achieve the first level because there's no instruction about the base building mechanics. I do not understand why I have boats just aggregating in the same place; or why sometimes my ports don't build around them, or what is the logic behind points. I will be happy to revise my rating if the game improves in the matter, because it seems fun.
The game fails to explain its core mechanics in the tutorial, and this is AFTER the game's only update that supposedly improved its tutorial. Don't waste your time on this garbage.
Flocity mix puzzle and relaxing atmosphere. Digging and ai boats are fun, but the mechanism of growing buildings is a bit simple, seems that the closer to the port, the faster it grows.
Enjoy the beautiful visuals. I replayed in the first level to understand the game. After level 1 there are more “puzzle” and challenge. A very unusual type of “city builder” with a balance between relaxing and adventuring.
Relaxing atmosphere. Discovering more gameplay took patience. It is simpler than other city builder, this game focuses mainly on digging canals for boats to pass. There's more fun in digging.
Flocity is a game about logistics. The ships move to one port from the donut, but they seem to move to other ports as well. No very complicated mechanism, and it also requires a little luck. Ensure smooth canal traffic, let the blue guy kill the red guy without letting it eat too many ships, and you'll be easy to pass the levels. Graphics is great with curve ground!
