Enjoyable Shmup which leans towards the easy side with the story arcs not being that interesting

🎬Gameplay Video🎬
https://youtu.be/TON3Rgp3NAI
🤔Overall Impressions🤔

Flightpath is enjoyable, with some nice special effects, sounds, different locales, and a variety of weapons to choose from, making game play feel a little different each time. The story arcs represented by the three different characters feel a bit bland and just break up game play, but they are nicely presented and offer something different, and the story choices we are offered during game play was a novel idea but didn’t really add anything special. I guess most people will find this a tad on the easy side, apart from the final stage which is difficult, but I enjoyed the lack of bullet hell and would certainly recommend to a younger audience especially.

🕹️Gameplay🕹️
There are three character stories to follow, but they mostly adopt the same path, and game play feels quite similar for each route. Each character will have ten levels to complete culminating in the same boss fight at the end. There are a few mini bosses which do differ between characters, and there are choices which you can make during game play which slightly effects the story or earns you different achievements. The stories are nothing special. Characters look quite nice, with that visual novel type aesthetic, but dialogue is very basic and most of the stories are just retribution for a wrong doing. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2972058592 There is only one ship, but there are quite a lot of options for tailoring it to your taste, including twelve different weapons which you can attach to the front, side, and rear of your craft giving the option of five different weapons being shot simultaneously. Unfortunately, each weapon uses energy, so you must choose your weapons within these constraints. Upgrading your generator allows for more weapons to be installed and should be one of the first upgrades you buy. The ship also has a variety of shields, armour, and a big weapon that can be unleashed when there is enough power. There is enough variety in locales to keep it fresh, and there are some different mechanics thrown at you like defending or attacking certain strategic points, or mini bosses within different areas. Enemies can approach you from the bottom or the side of the screen, without warning, and often catch you unawares. There probably could be a bit more variety in enemies and they tend to act a bit dumb flying in the same patterns, but overall, it is a nice experience unleashing a colourful barrage of weapons at them, and there is a meaty and satisfying sound as they explode. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2973363028 I would say game play is a little on the easy side, especially after you have earnt enough credits from destroying enemies to upgrade your generator, shields, armour, and added weapons. The enemy difficulty stays the same, so it’s not long before you find yourself easily ripping through defences. If you fail a mission, you are given a second try with a different ship, giving you another chance to earn more credits, and because you can upgrade your ship half way through the mission, it is all geared towards making you ship more powerful than any adversary. The only exception being the final boss fight which I have not managed to get anywhere near defeating. Game play does seem a little unbalanced in this respect.
🍳Conclusion🍳

Flightpath is a fun shoot em up with very colourful graphics and a rocking soundtrack and special effect sounds. The narrative elements are different, but don’t expect anything too complex. I would probably recommend this to people who are new to shoot em ups as it can be a little too easy, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Anime awesome cutscenes w/branches, procedurally generated patterns, various passive powerups. Fair price.
With a strong scene of your surroundings you too can be an ace pilot! That's the feeling you get as your ship zips around the screen in Flightpath the new indie shoot'em up developed and published by Illogical Games. You start the game with all three playable characters unlocked and ready to go. Kath: The Engineer, Aj: Ex-Decetive, and Max: The Racer. As of writing this I have only played as Max as trying to remember all the routes taken for complete her achievement. Oh did I say ROUTES as in multiple paths to take? Yes, yes I did. The game is called Flightpath after all so why wouldn't there be multiple paths extending the games playability? Each character has their own story and set of routes to take from savings NPC's to completing side objectives that unlock other interesting routes. Each run can be slightly different than the last based on your choices. The game play of Flightpath is solid in it's simplicity with a large array of weapons, armor, and other items in which to build your preferred load out throughout the whole game. You can play a more defensive build or go full on assault watching as the enemies health bar melt into nothing. Such customization really lets you play around with what works best for you and your play style. For all in this short review I can say that Flightpath was worth the money spent on it and I'm not done with it yet. Here I come 100%!!!!
My Personal Game Score: 8.5 / 10 + Enjoyable game + Good game design and graphics + Good game story + The story can be different depending on your choice. + Good power-ups and upgrades - It's a bit annoying on enemies that just pops-up behide you like they are ambushing you. - I think some times the spaceship or aircraft is moving forward too fast.
Never really played many Shoot'em Ups but this was a good bit of fun. The characters were enjoyable to play with their different stories and the ship customisation was neato. The game doesn't let you slap every weapon available to make you death incarnate on so there is a balancing act that goes on depending on what kind of style you want to go for regarding weapons. But I got all the daka I needed. The game occasionally gives you choices where you can choose your Flightpath (hur hur), the objectives and future paths change depending on it which is a nice touch to add some replayability to it all. Overall nice game, would recommend if you enjoy shoot'em ups and want to support an Indie dev.
Flightpath is one-part classic spaceship games like Zaxxon but with all of the attributes that you wished those games had back in the day. Wanna upgrade your weapons? Wanna increase your shields or armor? Want to add side-shooting or rear-shooting weapons. It's all possible. And then, wrapped up in compelling story that works ala Valkyria Chronicles or Val-Halla. The story adds oomph to the maps, and the maps are challenging enough that you'll definitely need to figure out your vehicle build and strategies. Just super-fun. And the price-point can't be beat! Highly recommended!
Having played a lot of Chicken Invaders and Star Defender, I tried this game; it's a pleasant surprise, You get to choose from three different players each having their stories. The levels are not too many (10 or so I think) but it's a fun experience if you like these king of games. The graphics are pleasant. Sound is great! Gameplay is fine, but I feel like the game sometimes feel too brittle and harsh. There are tons of upgrade for the ship, and it's not hard to get the best items soon. Some levels also give you choice to take a left vs Right path, each having different objectives. My main problem with the game is that the friendly ship dies too quickly when you have to defend it. The Final boss is actually fun to fight and is a pretty big fight in two phases. If I could suggest something, I would really like the game to have a bit of a breathing room so you are not constantly bombarded from all directions. And boy they hit hard. I wish it had more levels as the game is not big in length (it has a endless level too). However, if you have played games like chicken invaders, and star defenders, you might also like this.
A fun indie game with a lot of very fun ship customization, sooo many cute characters and a great soundtrack!
A great schmup with cool characters and a brief but interesting story that doesn't overstay its welcome. Really impressive for the studios first game. Highly recommend!
