About

It's a third person disc golf simulator designed to give an authentic playing experience similar to being on the course with physics of actual disc golf - giving both challenge and reward!
Disc golf plays very similar to golf but uses concaved discs that are thrown into baskets rather than golf balls that are hit by clubs into holes.

Play on courses throughout the world, find lost discs or buy new ones, and learn new throws and styles! Experience realistic gameplay while being surrounded by highly detailed nature.

There are courses constantly added to the game - some of which are actual courses throughout the world. As FLEX continues to grow in popularity, so too will the course list!

There's lots in the works for FLEX, primarily multiplayer! Playing with friends truly multiplies the excitement of disc golf. We want your friends to see that Ace you got just as much as you!

Alright. FLEX Disc Golf is truly disc golf. If you've ever played disc golf, this game emulates that experience well. It is in early access, and from the look of things, I'd guess it'll be in early access for probably at least another year. While the gameplay is already there and enjoyable, the rest of the game is definitely still being sorted out. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3290833929 At present, there is no character generator or select, so you get to play as a big dorky looking dude. Big dorky looking dudes are not inconsistent with the disc golf experience, so that isn't a knock lol. But it will be nice when/if you can create a character and have some sort of progression system outside of earning cash to buy more discs. Currently, outside of enjoying the courses that are available, earning cash to buy new discs to then use in future rounds is basically the gameplay loop. Related to that, I'd like to see a quick switching mechanic whereby you can place discs in hotkeys. Currently, unless I missed something, you have to click escape, go to discs, and manually switch discs each time you'd like to use something different. Now, as it stands, the game can be played entirely with your driver, but in reality, having a quick switching method will definitely help to improve course scores. Speaking of courses, there are currently five in the menu. I've played through two of them so far. Each was cool and very typical of real-life disc golf courses, replete with plenty of trees and other stuff that can affect your throws. Will a tree branch slap down your disc? Yes, yes it will. Will you also get some tree love from time to time? Yes, yes you will. For the uninitiated, tree love simply means that hitting a tree actually helped your throw. I did notice that the game didn't track the second course for the purposes of earning cheevos, so something for the devs to look at there. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3290833945 Throwing is of course the core gameplay mechanic, and this is done quite well. You have two motion meters, one after the other, which determine the strength of your throw, and it's done in a fairly intuitive manner where you will have a pretty good idea of how far your disc is going to fly assuming you click the meters at the appropriate times. You can also adjust the trajectory of your throw, both by aiming and by adjusting your angles. Hyzer, flat, and anhyzer are all represented by simply using your mouse scroll to get the angle you think is appropriate. I do note that you can't skip discs, pancake throws aren't available, intentional rolling, and a couple other alternate throwing styles aren't a thing. I tested skipping and didn't see an option for other throwing styles. I'd like to see more throwing options implemented since they're most definitely used IRL and can offer some fun new mechanics to play around with. Additionally, on occasion, the throwing meters show how far it is to the closest obstacle rather than the distance to the basket, which makes using the meters a bit of a crapshoot under those circumstances. The disc store: that is pretty unrealistic in my experience, although I guess it also depends on where you live. Typically though, you'd just buy discs from sporting goods stores and used sports equipment shops, and from mobile shops set up in the parking lots of disc golf courses. However, for the purposes of this game, it makes sense and although seemingly a bit of a departure from reality, it is definitely practical. The mobile shops IRL will generally also sell drinks, snacks and disc golf swag. And since the sport is very 420 friendly, they usually also sell lighters and papers lol. Some other things that are probably in the pipeline, but that I'd like to see added even if they aren't: Tournaments of course. At least singles and doubles. It would be pretty hilarious if there were casuals also playing while a tourney was underway. And maybe bag upgrades. Also, while you can find lost discs in the game, it would also be pretty funny if there was a minigame wherein you can get your disc stuck in a tree and have to knock it out of the tree with a rock or stick. We all know that pain after all. Why not embrace it, lol? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3290833957 As the game is currently, it already is completely playable AND enjoyable, and is very true to the sport. And the $4.99 price tag is very reasonable for the content available as well as the content expected to drop with future updates. I'd say this is a fairly niche game, but anyone interested in disc golf should definitely consider picking this game up. It's about as true to form as a game can be. Me personally, I'll be following the game's development and return to play it more as new updates drop. Game is not complete yet. After playing for about 12 minutes I fell through the floor and had to alt-f4. After reopening the game the same thing occurred after the first throw off the teebox. Mechanics are fun but the game definitely needs some stability updates.
The game certainly needs a lot of work! The UI is awful—barely readable in the main menu, making it difficult to even see what the options are. Then there's the gameplay. Oh boy. The aiming line is absolutely terrible. The game doesn’t explain what the "throw meters" do—one seems to be for distance, and the other for power (?). There’s no real sense of how far or high your throw will go. No indication, no feedback—nothing. You’re left guessing, hoping to magically hit the meters perfectly by pure luck. Worse, I get different results in my throws even when using the same disc with the same distance and power. It makes no sense. Then there's the backhand/forehand issue. Characters automatically go for a backhand even when you choose a forehand. The maps are a mess—too many trees. And speaking of trees, the disc will hit every single one because the hitboxes are massive. Even when it looks like you're nowhere near a tree, there's a high chance you'll bounce off it or get stuck. For a game where precision is supposed to be key, these issues are unacceptable. There's also no way to properly view the course except for a quick flyover when entering a tee pad, and even that doesn’t always happen. Once you're on the course, you're on your own. Then the game screws you over in a special way. Let’s say you're playing a hole with a par of 4, and you reach the basket in 2 throws. The game automatically gives you a par because of a green circle around the basket that ends your attempt. So, you can’t even putt from close range. Fast travel is buggy—sometimes buttons don’t work, or you can’t throw at all and have to abandon the game. Then there’s the money system, which makes no sense. I have no idea how earnings are calculated. Sometimes I get $1 for completing a hole, sometimes $4. XP is just as random—sometimes 5-10XP, sometimes 0, and other times 50XP. Bought discs have disappeared. I couldn’t select certain discs (putter, midrange, fairway, driver), meaning I wasted in-game currency and had to restart. Oh, and some achievements seem to be broken (for example, playing on different courses doesn't register). At this point, I have nothing positive to say—except that it is a disc golf game. Yay.
To recommend or not to recommend, that is the question.
As the title indicates, this review could very well be negative. I tried the demo and almost didn't buy it. I mean, the game itself, if you don't know, is golf but with a frisbee. You have to hit it into a basket, while the trees and their branches are a pain in the ass. That said, I'll start with what I liked about FLEX Disc Golf: First, the graphics. They look good, with nice lighting, and I get the feeling that if you threw a deer in, it would turn into a hunting game at any moment. At the same time, it is relaxing. It comes with chill music, but I prefer playing something in the background. The gameplay is pretty good, with physics that even behave realistically on tree branches. There is no multiplayer, it is on the roadmap, but it does have online leaderboards. Now onto the really bad. It is a bug-fest. Frisbees you buy disappear, though they are cheap anyway. Tree textures sometimes break, and worst of all, falling off the map or getting stuck forces you to restart from scratch. It is especially annoying if you are far along in the 18 holes. Though there are no holes here, baskets would be more accurate I suppose, haha. So my recommendation is to clear your doubts with the demo, like I did. It is in early access, but I do not know if development is still active. Hope so.
--- ESP:
This is a fun game, I personally preferred the older method of throwing, the game is still a fun way to relax and I'm sure if I tried the new throwing more I'd enjoy it more.
FLEX Disc Golf is a groundbreaking third-person disc golf simulator that brings the essence and excitement of disc golf to the digital world. From the moment you start playing, it's clear that the developers have poured their hearts into creating an experience that isn't just about playing disc golf but living it. The physics of the game are impressively realistic, closely mirroring the challenge and satisfaction of the actual sport. The attention to detail in the flight dynamics of the discs, the way they interact with the environment, and even the sound of chains rattling as you nail a basket from afar, all contribute to an immersive experience that's as close to the real thing as you can get without stepping outside. The game currently features two beautifully designed 18-hole courses, with ten more on the way, promising a variety of landscapes and challenges that can keep players engaged for hours. The developers' commitment to realism extends to the courses themselves, which are surrounded by highly detailed natural environments, making each round not just a game, but an escape into nature. Beyond just playing, FLEX Disc Golf offers a depth that many sports simulators lack. The ability to find lost discs or purchase new ones adds a layer of strategy and personalization, encouraging players to explore different throwing techniques and styles. This level of customization and exploration is a testament to the game's depth and replayability. The promise of future updates, including more courses, improved disc and chain physics, additional throw animations, and the highly anticipated online multiplayer features, ensures that FLEX Disc Golf is not just a game for the present but one that will grow and evolve, keeping the community engaged and excited. For fans of disc golf, FLEX Disc Golf is a love letter to the sport, offering a way to enjoy their favorite game rain or shine, day or night. For newcomers, it's an accessible and engaging introduction to disc golf, inviting them to discover the joys of the sport in a fun and interactive way. In every aspect, FLEX Disc Golf is not just a game; it's the next best thing to being on the course.
Flex Disc Golf is a great game to jump in for a quick round of solo DG. The graphics are great and improving with updates. The disc flights don't seem to reflect what you'd expect from certain molds available. And mostly, I wish this was available as a multiplayer game. Otherwise it's a great work in progress.
Good idea with a lot of potential. After a day of playing disc it's good to come home and play some more disc! Has some bugs, but that's to be expected of an early access game. Given time I have no doubt this game will keep getting better and better. Just had an update recently, so developer is clearly putting in the time to refine the game. Looking forward to a 4 player coop mode!
Really fun game even in this early access state. With some bug fixing and more features, then this game definitely has GREAT potential! For just 4.99 euro it is a great game!
I would say, ya, c'mon and hop on for the ride. I was quite skeptical at first and at the time of this review, the game is still in early development. But I see potential in the game and the Dev seems to be keeping up with regular updates and receptive to feedback.
