fitriz is essentially food-based tetris. enter your name, choose a favorite sport for no reason, one of 3 difficulty levels, acknowledge the 5 random pieces of starting food items (or randomize them until something better comes along), then proceed through 30 levels, unlocked one by one. there's an inventory of unlocked food items and you can decide what each tetris shape should consist of, or let the game pick the best ones to reach the goals on each level. there's even a day/night cycle, so you'll be playing each stage 'for days', ideally ending them all with enough nutrients to make them sunny, not rainy. cutlery and other special blocks help deal with line-clearing and you can collect more sports randomly, they affect calorie goals and can help with clearing lines as well. difficulty determines the number of sunny days necessary for completion and the amount of starting lines on the board. on easy one sunny day means a 1-star rating, 3 sunny days nets 3 stars, anything else is just a bonus. on medium these values are doubled and on hard tripled, so you'll need 9 sunny days per level to get 3 stars if you're playing on hard. matching foodstuff is one thing, works as it should, but there's an educational aspect here as well. notice the game is not called foodtris because it tries to keep players fit in its own way. the easiest of which is to stop playing tetris and go for a walk, but that'd be counterintuitive in this case. what it does instead is it tries to keep you off animal products. sources and recipes are included, but meat is the best and 'vegan cheese' isn't cheese without actual milk from a cow (or similar), so whatever. what's worse is explaining things with memes, gimme a break. either way, tooltips show nutritional information about everything from fruit and veg to 'pizza' and 'burgers'. graphics are a mixture of okay and less okay, the background color changing after every cleared line is really annoying. as is upcoming pieces and optional tips covering useful info and screen space on top instead of being on the sides that aren't used for anything. some sound effects are annoying too and there are 3 pretty good music tracks to choose from. the mouse works in the menu but otherwise you'll need the keyboard to move, rotate in either direction and drop stuff. controls are rebindable, which is great because backspace to drop as a default is weird. settings include a couple of languages, resolutions, separate sliders for music and sound effects, a toggle for tips and even an age setting. if you claim to be under 13, you can only have raccoons (wtf?) instead of bombs on the board. again, weird. the pause menu only has toggles for sound and music, but there are 3 save slots to keep progress separate. aside from leaving out some of the best foods (meatris would be a great riff on the subject) and spouting vegan nonsense (only mentions vegan sportspeople, ♥♥♥♥ everybody else apparently), it works fine as a basic tetris experience. it's a bit overcomplicated with the goals, inventory and whatnot and menu navigation is less than ideal, takes like 10 clicks to continue where you left off last time. the developer quickly fixed a few technical problems and at least it does something original and informative, might be worth checking out if you're also interested in the food part, otherwise there are better alternatives.
FITRIZ is a different take on Tetris with food instead of basic blocks and also adds a learning factor by giving information about each food item and its function as well as nutritional value. It's a fun way to learn about the different types of food shown in the game and even better if you're into Tetris-like games. Personally, I have to say that it's not necessarily the type of game I would play on a regular basis, however, I do think that it's a fun little game to kill some time with every once in a while. Here's a gameplay video with commentary (German) if someone is curious. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OKxGk0zteA

Panda Reviews
Was this review helpful? Fitriz is an attempt to combine Fitness information with Tetris. I'm not sure the fitness/nutrition info provided is much more than a theme so I'll just gloss over that. But if you want to be reminded that vitamin C is healthy for you, don't worry the game will tell you a few times. The actual gameplay is essentially a Tetris clone with just a couple of tweaks. Spin the pieces to make lines and clear the board, etc. You get some random "bombs" in the form of utensils and racoons, where as your normal pieces have food pictures. There's also some attempt at letting you tweak what pieces you'll get during a level, picking sports themes (which you unlock) changes things like the % of long pieces you'll get. I'm not sure I fully understood this part so maybe there's more depth there that I didn't explore, I mainly just jumped into the Tetris itself. I can't say this breaks any new ground, there's a lot of Tetris clones out there, but if the novelty factor of vegan-Tetris is something you think is missing from your life, don't let me hold you back. EDIT: I originally had a couple of minor issues that have been fixed by recent updates so those complaints have been removed. --- Bottom line: It's a knock off of Tetris with some random information about nutrition stuffed in between levels. --- While you are here, would you consider following my curator page? Want to read all of my reviews and not just the curated ones?
super Spiel, chillige Musik! top!

COOL GAME, LOOKS TETRIS BUT WITH FOOD. IF YOU LIKE BOTH, 10/10
"FITRIZ" is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam, a fruit obsessed ripoff of Tetris that nobody asked for or wanted. By vegans, for vegans. How do you know someone is a vegan? Don't worry, they'll tell you. What do you do in the game? It's Tetris, match the blocks. The only difference is there's a whole bunch of fruit related reskinning/window dressing. Pointless. The graphics aren't great... that will understandably be a turn off for a lot of gamers, and it's a big contributor to the failure of the game to attract gamers despite having no up-front cost. Gaming is a primarily visual medium, and if developers want to succeed, they must understand that it's not an area for compromise. You deserve better than compromises. It's free... now, but it wasn't before. The developer was charging $4 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It's a nice gesture for the game to be given away for free, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
