FISTAGON – Überraschungshit in VR!
Disclosure: I received a free review copy of this product from https://www.keymailer.co

What is this game?
This is a casually hard action/puzzle game where you punch parts that appear on your side and front so that they fly into a shaped canvas where you do something like a mix of tetris and connect-4, with some occasional powerups like TNT and piece ejector. You do that side-by-side with a competitor, that might be a bot or a real online player. I say it's "casually hard" because the mechanics are simple, but they are indeed difficult to master. The first levels against bot were pretty easy, though, not because I was very good but because the bots are quite bad at their job. You can check my gameplay here: https://youtu.be/S15bJActCAE
Mechanics
That's it, you are put in an arena against an opponent, each with their own canvas (you choose the shape at start). You see him or her at your side and you can also (by accident or on purpose) punch the parts at his or her canvas, although it's more difficult due to being in an angle and further from you. What you get some places of equal color lined up, they disappear and you earn points. To be far I do not know exactly what are all the criteria for them to disappear but I understand that finding that out is part of the fun. Punching the parts feel natural, with haptic feedback, and you have a visual indication of where you are aiming before you punch them. You get 300 seconds to punch the pieces. After that, the one who scores higher wins.
Graphics and customization
As seen in the gameplay, the graphics are simple, pixar-like. That makes the game run very well, it was at constant 90 fps when I played. The arms of your character when you choose it seem to be very twisted, though. You can only choose from a small set of characters, apparently with no customization options. I'd prefer if progress could allow you to earn customization parts (maybe including functional ones) and keep improving your character.
Multiplayer
The game has multiplayer servers in several regions (Asia, India, Korea, Europe, US and Japan) but I could not find anyone to play with, so I could not test it properly.
Sound & Music
The music and sound effects are very adequate to the set, with vibrant background music pumping you up to the "combat" and sound effects that resemble 8-bit games, but more "punchy" if you allow me the pun. The game has voice chat but as I couldn't find multiplayer partners I was unable to properly test it.
Comfort options
There are none. As the game has a simple gameplay loop where you don't need to move or turn, vignette and snap turn don't really apply here.
Missed opportunities
The mechanics are simple and I feel there could be more to it, like punching pieces on the opponent could throw him or her off, and I also think the if the parts didn't get in your way when you'd throw them in the oppponents canvas, a more strategic way of playing could be enabled.
Settings
There are only two settings: fist hand left/right and post processing on/off. Even being this simple, I feel that it could have more customization and options here.
Linux
The game works perfectly on the Meta Quest 3 with all the three streaming software: WiVRn, ALVR and Steam Link.
Price
The game costs USD 10.99 / ~10.7 € and it seems like an adequate price for a casual game for me. What's more, it seems to have had very good deals already with up to 75% discount. So if you have patience you might want to wait for a sale.
Conclusion
A fun, if casual competitive puzzle-action game to spend some time with. If you have a playing partner it might be much better. 7/10
Follow my Steam Curator for VR Games on Linux: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45753882-VR-Linux/
Tested on Meta Quest 3 ( ریویو فارسی رو پایینتر نوشتم ) First of all, I want to sincerely thank the developers for sending me a code so I could try and review the game. Even though the Steam version didn’t run properly on my system and had issues with SteamVR, the devs were extremely helpful and guided me through multiple steps — so I really appreciate their effort and kindness. Unfortunately, I still couldn’t get the PC version to work, so I ended up testing the Meta Quest 3 version, which seems to have slightly lower graphics quality compared to the PC build. Now, about the game itself — to be honest, I couldn’t fully understand how it’s supposed to play. It’s like a mix between Tetris and boxing, which is an interesting concept, but it doesn’t quite feel well executed yet. The first issue I noticed was the height calibration — the game didn’t detect my height correctly, and I appeared much shorter in-game. It was kind of funny, but also a bit frustrating. I even tried adjusting the floor height in the settings a few times, but it didn’t seem to apply properly during gameplay. The second issue is the gameplay accuracy. The tracking and hit detection didn’t feel consistent — the controllers often lost tracking, and the punches didn’t register the way I expected. I’ve played many VR fighting games before, but this is the first one where I felt like the hand tracking just couldn’t keep up. Performance-wise, I also experienced some stuttering, especially when hitting cubes. The moment of impact would freeze briefly, and sometimes the cube would fly in the wrong direction — for example, hitting from behind would send it upward or backward instead of forward. It was funny at first but clearly not intended. The third issue is the lack of players (which is understandable for a new release), but it made the game feel a bit empty. I truly hope more people join in because I know how difficult and time-consuming game development is, and I really want the developers to stay motivated and keep improving their project. Hopefully, future updates will fix these problems, because I think if the multiplayer mode works well, this could become a very fun and competitive VR experience. (Note: I had to keep the game running in the background just to write this review, since the Steam version wouldn’t launch at all on my system.)
