Fishing Planet is one of those games that makes fishing feel like a proper hobby instead of just something I do for a few minutes in a game. It is a first person fishing simulator where I can travel to different real world locations, choose my equipment and spend as much time as I want trying to catch the right fish. The basic idea is relaxing, but there is a surprising amount of detail underneath it. I have to think about what I am fishing for, what tackle I am using and where I am casting instead of just pressing a button and waiting for a fish to appear. The game is also free to play, which makes the amount of content here pretty impressive. The fishing itself is easily the strongest part for me. There are different styles including float fishing, spinning, bottom fishing and saltwater trolling, and each one changes how I approach a session. The tackle system is also very detailed, with thousands of combinations of rods, reels, lines, hooks, lures and other equipment. Fish have different behaviour depending on things like the time of day, weather, water temperature, current and depth, so I cannot always use the same setup everywhere. I really like that because catching something feels more rewarding when I have actually worked out what equipment and conditions suit it. There is a lot of progression too. Catching fish gives me experience, and gaining levels unlocks better equipment and access to new fishing locations. That gives me a reason to keep improving instead of simply visiting the same lake forever. I can also take on daily missions, work towards achievements and compete in events and leaderboards. The boats are another nice addition because I can use kayaks and different types of motor boats when I need to reach different parts of the water. I like having all these systems because they make the fishing feel like an actual long term activity rather than a collection of isolated fishing trips. The environments are another thing I appreciate. The waterways are based on real locations and have their own vegetation, terrain and conditions. The water reacts to things like wind and current, while the game also has changing weather, day and night and different seasons. When I am sitting somewhere quiet waiting for a bite, these details make a bigger difference than I expected. It can genuinely feel relaxing to spend time looking at the water and listening to the environment. The graphics are not perfect everywhere, but the overall atmosphere works really well for what the game is trying to do. The biggest problem for me is that progression can feel slow. Fishing is supposed to be patient, but there are times when the game takes that idea a little too far. I can spend a decent amount of time trying to earn enough experience or money to move forward, and the amount of equipment available can make it difficult to know exactly what I should be saving for. The free to play structure also includes in game purchases and a large amount of optional paid content. I can play without paying, but I do notice that the progression is built around keeping me fishing for a long time, and that will not always be enjoyable when I just want to try a new location or piece of equipment. I also think Fishing Planet works best when I am in the right mood for it. This is not a game I can always pick up expecting constant excitement. There are long periods where I am waiting, watching the water and making small adjustments. That is actually the point, but it means the game can feel incredibly slow if I want something more active. The online features, tournaments, competitions and shared fishing also give it more life, but the main appeal for me is still the quiet process of preparing my setup, finding a good spot and eventually getting that bite. Overall, Fishing Planet is a very detailed fishing simulator that I think gets the important things right. I like the realistic fishing mechanics, huge amount of tackle, different fishing methods, changing weather, varied locations and progression system. The slow progression and free to play structure stop me from rating it alongside my absolute favourite games, and I have to be willing to accept that a lot of the experience is simply waiting and trying again. Still, when I want something calm and I actually feel like fishing, there is a lot here for me to enjoy. It feels like a proper fishing game rather than a simple fishing minigame, and being free makes the package even easier for me to appreciate. Rating: 8.2/10

its very rewarding to play when you understand the basics and feels good to catch big fishes! lots of missions! lots of gear and locations ! only thing missing i would say is ice fishing!
