About
You're a temporal forensics specialist - or, more informally, a time-travelling detective. Between your analytical talent and your ability to visit the past, there aren't many mysteries you can't unravel. But this new client's job might be the coldest case you've ever come across.
You’ve been hired to find the story behind a broken fossil bone from the vast sagebrush deserts of Oregon. Hunt for clues, play minigames to solve puzzles and travel through time to learn as much about this ancient animal as you can – where it came from, how it lived, and when and how it died. Because if you can’t figure those things out... well, not only will you not get paid, but a little girl's birthday party is going to be straight up ruined.
Explore the mysteries of Oregon's Great Basin Desert and its ancient past in this educational game focused on over 50 years of scientific research in the Fort Rock Basin. The bones and clues are real – see how they unlock the past for modern scientists and travel there yourself. You’ll play science-informed minigames like the 3D platformer game where you sample tufa rocks for radiocarbon, or the Match 3 game used to identify fossil animals. This free educational game is supported by NSF Award #2228632.

The idea behind this game is great! It is wonderful to see scholars sharing science and knowledge in this way. While the game does have some bugs and issues, it is fully playable. I highly recommend that the creators consult with an experienced game developer to fix these technical problems. Otherwise, it's a great project, and I see no reason not to give it a positive review!
Interesting idea, terrible implementation.

TL;DR Cool idea, terrible game. You need to be willing to put up with a lot of issues, or the game won't be for you I love the idea of time travel to find clues. Learning about types of bones. And i love educational games in general. So I really wanted to like this game but sadly it feels like a prototype, not a finished game. It needs a lot more polish in basically every area: UI, performance, gameplay, ... The issues start with the main menu - there is no "New Game", only "Load Game" where you can then also create a new game. Also, the quit button in the main menu doesn't work! Yikes. And it only gets worse. You get thrown into a scene with a) possibly the worst screenshake i've ever encountered in any game (no settings to disable it, generally few settings). Audio is just as much a mess with volume level of music jumping around wildly when voices start or stop, which is incredibly jarring (at least you can disable music altogether as a workaround). Voicelines get cut off when others get triggered so you have no idea what they were going to say; there is no logic to prevent issues like this. The gameplay confused me as well. To be clear, i know nothing about fossils or bones, but i would never have recognized the type of bone you were meant to match in the very beginning so that part was just a "click on every bone until the game progresses". The carbon dating minigame i couldn't even finish because i couldn't see enough right rocks, and why are there enemies? I found those just frustrating, and the time limit as well. At least the match 3 minigame works well, the only part of the game that does. The performance is also terrible - at 100-150 fps this game feels like maybe 30 fps thanks to presumably microstutters. It literally feels the same with maximum and minimum graphics settings. And all while looking like a game from the early 2000s. In short, pretty much every part of this game is a mess. Literally the only positive i can find is the theme and the idea behind it, and i hate being so harsh but i have to be honest that the game itself is sadly pretty bad at this point at least. Which is a real shame, i would really have liked this type of game done well. Maybe if the theme interests you and you don't mind engaging with a very janky game you can still enjoy it, but otherwise can't recommend. It certainly is too much of a mess for me.
we need chinse!!!
the invisible barriers are weird, the UI with the map didn't make sense at first, i didn't know how to activate the astrolabe until i randomly clicked everywhere because i don't know what an astrolabe is. i stopped playing after trying the rock dating game because literally not enough rocks spawn to complete it. it seems like a really great and fun idea but it is SO rough around the edges.
