It's been five months now and the game is still broken. The developer and the publisher both know about the issues and don't seem to care enough to fix them. The game is very poorly balanced, takes a long time to get interesting, eventually you become so overpowered that bosses go down in seconds. Eventually the stage generation algorithm goes to pot and starts to build caves with impassible walls that you have to just fly through, tanking the hits until you die. So all runs go this way, you're overpowered and the game is far too easy up until around stage 30 where the game becomes impossible and you die flying into walls. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJispLaebZc I rate the dev, he's been getting better with each release, and you can tell there's a fun game hidden in there if it was balanced and tested properly, but I think it's safe to say that it's abandoned at this point.
Feeble Light is another shmup made by Panda indie studios who previously made games like Project Starship X and Z-Warp. This game is very cute and aesthetically pleasing as there are different color options to play the game in. It seems like the mechanics are much more simple this time around so this game is very beginner friendly. I'm not necessarily a fan that the game loops endlessly but I'm sure others can enjoy it for scoring purposes. I know that dev has submitted a patch to fix this so this will be outdated soon however my main gripe with the game was that after looping (around level 20ish) you will encounter a corridor that will block the entrance resulting in you taking hits without any way of dodging them. I'm sure it will be fixed soon but that was all.
fun game, good music, hitboxes feel intuitive, palette unlocks keep things interesting while replaying
Clearly built on the experience made with Project Starship X and Z-Warp, this game returns to procedurally generated elements, five levels with different combinations of enemy waves, minibosses and bosses, and after finishing them the next loop begins. The graphics, rendered in two or three colors, are delightful. Numerous alternate palettes can be unlocked. I'd almost call this a "cute-em-up" game, until those space entities with angry or crazy faces appear, the black hole with a psycho smile is my favourite. I don't get those ridiculous boss names though - Black Holetti? Fire Dragonetti?! I wonder why the cover picture has a starship, changed late in development to the little star? In fact, looking closely it appears the star is a modified version of the ship design that's been around since the first Project Starship. While nice and still worth its low price, Feeble Light doesn't measure up to its immediate "predecessor" in the Panda Indie Studio catalogue. The gameplay is simply not as tight, collisions aren't as precise, and the bomb is much more difficult to recharge while exclusively cancelling bullets on screen, it deals damage to enemies. The random generation can cause unfair situations and lack of balance, like getting few or no shot upgrades, ending up with a firepower too pitiful even for average enemies after a few levels, or the complete opposite of getting too powerful for any boss; some players report that the more loops they survive, the more likely the chance the game will throw obstacles that are very hard or just impossible to dodge. I've also experienced a run where all levels had the same miniboss. Also, no [i[tate mode? Z-Warp had it, I can't see why not here. If they decided to focus on making some "fixed" levels as good as Z-Warp, we'd be talking of another recommended game; here, it can still be but with reservations.
Nota: 6/10.
Cute little fun top down shooter but breaks eventually if you stay alive too long.
Good!
Vertical Bullet Hell with a bunch of retro palettes. I'm on this fence with this one. Buy on sale unless you're really great at shmups. https://steamcommunity.com/groups/indieretrogamers
