A Favorably good Chess game. Haha! You see what I did there? Thank you.
Ever since the flash game Chess Evolved Online (which Favor Chess is inspired by) came out, I've been a big fan of chess variants. There's a lot of strategy involved, and when you can create your own armies, the possibilities are endless, encouraging creativity. However, as much as I like chess variants, I cannot help but feel disappointed by Favor Chess. I haven't been playing for very long, yet I'm already losing the motivation to keep playing. First off, it's really CPU-intensive. As soon as I start the game, my laptop fan starts roaring really loudly. I honestly had no idea the fan can even get that loud until I started playing this game. Which is odd, because it's just a chess program. I can't play this game without constantly worrying if it will take a toll on my laptop's lifespan, so as a result, I only play the bare minimum every day: the daily challenge and enough games to finish a daily quest. This game might be free, but if it ends up burning out my laptop, is it actually free? Second, there's almost nobody to play with. Over 90% of the time, I get matched with an AI. This is further compounded by the fact that the AI is atrocious. I can easily steamroll it, and even if I blunder really hard, I can almost always still win. What's the point of building and perfecting an army, if the AI can be beaten with just about anything? Third, although there are many custom pieces, a lot of them don't look very interesting. This game borrows pieces from other chess variants, including CEO, and yet, many of the more interesting and useful pieces aren't present. Instead, this game seems filled with pieces with weird, unwieldy movesets that I don't know why anybody would ever use. Combined with the fact that it takes grinding to unlock pieces (and as explained above, the grinding process isn't very fun), it just feels more tedious than fun. Good concept, but the actual execution leaves a lot to be desired. 4/10

so terrible! way to many restrictions to get going. no wonder why its free.
An interesting chess variant with a modest following. Plays pretty smoothly.
Really cool take on chess, super fun to play with friends. I'd recommend this to pretty much anyone who likes chess; the versatility in armies make the game really refreshing every time you play. I would say the only downside is the small community, which is sad for a game this unique. Definitely give it a shot if you're at all interested in chess.
The game is Good & Minimal. I just wanted to play a chess game with my buddy online and this game was perfect. Thanks. :)
