A very good short game for one evening, but to be honest I’m a bit disappointed that it’s not as rich and long as Serra De Deus or Terminal 81R. Those are my favorite games of yours. I’m really looking forward to more big, deep games like Termial 81R
Another cool little horror game from David Pateti, the solo-dev creator behind the awesome Terminal 81 and Mortisomem. As the price point might suggest, Fatimopolis is a shorter, simpler game than either T81 or Mortisomem - but it still packs the spooky thrills that fans will know and love. Like Serra De Deus and T81, you play a nondescript protagonist working a mundane job - in this case, a delivery driver. Upon arriving at the titular town, you're surprised to find the streets deserted, and no manager around to greet you on your first day. As you drive around the streets, various odd sightings and discoveries start to build up the tension, before catapulting you off into the finale (or presumably not, if you decide to leave town beforehand!). I enjoyed wandering the eerily silent streets, accompanied only by the wail of the wind, occasional cries from dogs or cats, and - unnervingly - the distant rattle of gunfire. I've always been impressed by the atmospheric sound effects in Pateti's games; they draw you into these believable settings, elevating them above games of a similar price point. Gameplay is simple and linear, for the most part; simply locate the five or so delivery locations on your map and toss the right parcel at the door. You can wander around town to your heart's content, but really there's little to reward your efforts. There are several documents dotted around town, which really are crucial to understanding the story; however, their locations are marked on the map which - though helpful - really just turns collecting them into a tick-list chore. The finale is where things really kick off, culminating - as ever - in a "threat" sequence of sorts. While entertaining, it relies heavily on steering your delivery truck - and the controls are challenging, to say the least. The truck can feel floaty and awkward, regularly pitching into the sky if it clips an obstacle, or veering wildly off-course with no sense of weight or grip. Forget about reversing in a particular direction; it's just not going to happen. I must have died some 20+ times during the two end runs, by which point I'd lost all sense of excitement and just wanted it to end. Thankfully, the checkpoints are reasonable. Finishing the game unlocks some cute extra gameplay modes; an extra delivery mode, and - randomly! - a FPS survival mode, which are nice bonuses. All in all, I would recommend this game for fans of similar short, eerie horror sims - it's one of the better ones I've played in recent times. IMO, it's not quite as good as Serra De Deus, and is obviously a lot less substantial than the excellent T81/T81R and Mortisomem; but it's atmospheric, interesting while it lasts, and - even more crucially - your support will help one of the most entertaining solo devs in the space to keep producing more unique experiences. And I'd definitely say that's worth the £2.50-odd price of entry. (I played this on steamdeck: it performed well, but the Official Gamepad layout didn't work so I had to use Keyboard+Mouse and do some liberal key binding.)
