!! ABANDONED GAME !!
This game is has not been updated since December of 2023 but it is playable and all achievements can be earned with a minor work-around to the "collect all clothing" achievement as there are not currently 41 unique cosmetics in the game. My review is based on my own enjoyment as an achievement hunter as well as how much it had to offer. I purchased this game as part of a bundle so it came at a heavy discount. Do not purchase this game full price as it has been abandoned! (Playability) The game does include a storyline in the form of fetch quests. Be prepared to do A LOT of backtracking. I recommend filling up on fishing bait and catching fish each time you're out to sea. This makes the "Earn $500,000" achievement much more manageable. Also try your best to collect presents when you see them. I did this at the end but it's much less of a hassle if you catch them while doing the main quests. The gameplay loop does get tedious and repetitive and at times ends up really annoying. Even after upgrading your fishing pole as much as it can go you will still have issues with the underwater hazards. Octopi are the worst and they won't steal your "trash" items if you free yourself.. but if you have a fish it's gone. You don't have a whole lot of control over how the line moves so sometimes you're forced to hit one while you navigate the labyrinth that is the underwater. (Mechanics) Simplistic. W A S D moves your character around. W S also controls raising and lowering your hook. E picks up items once they're at the surface and also interacts with doors. ESC will get you out of most menus and will bring up the "save and rest" feature which you MUST do in order to keep your progress. It will fast forward the day once. X while in your shop or personal quarters will allow you to remove items you've placed. They will go into your inventory and break into multiple pieces if you've stored multiple things in them. Rick Click snaps your line back but does not give you anything that was hooked. Use only if stuck or resetting the line. The controls while fishing only allow you to move the length of your boat. It is recommended to equip a lure when searching for presents (I used the basic one because only surface fish like it) and then switch to an empty slot when over a present to swap to the magnetic to hook it. This stops you from picking up massive amounts of trash when getting quest items or presents. Otherwise it automatically snaps them and there's nothing you can do about it except right click to drop everything and snap your line back. (Enjoyment) In the beginning it was tough because you have the basics and it takes a long time to be able to progress. You need all three ships barriers before you really start making money and having freedom. Once you have money don't fish for trash, just buy it from the "tinfoil cat". He sells it once you've collected it once (except seaweed or clams for some reason) and it'll make your life so much easier. Towards the end I got burnt out and finished simply to complete the achievements. In the current state of the game there's really no replayability nor incentive to continue fishing. Townsfolk don't give you quests and you can't actually clean the ocean of trash so it's going to be a pain any time you want to do something. (Purchase?) If you can get it for 0.99 or whatever the equivalent is then I'd say it's a good time killer with some story. Anything above that isn't worth it because it's been unfinished for almost a year and a half with no sign of future updates. I wish steam would let you give a "mixed" thumb option because I struggled whether or not to downvote or upvote and solely picked down because the game was abandoned.
After 3 hours I found out that there's a game breaking bug. This game appears to be abandoned seeing as a year and a half in there are no bug fixes. i hate to do this but.. .don't buy it, don't play it. You'll only get invested then be disappointed when you cant progress. the bug I found was: upon unlocking the final shop expansion upgrade, I suddenly can't place displays to sell items
overall alright.
Cool idea but a broken buggy mess and no clear way to sell things. It could be a good game if it were updated and fixed, but it looks like the dev is not replying to feedback. Avoid this game.
Neat game, but abandoned.
This game would be great but for the bugs! There is a coding issue with the movement in that it gets stuck, whether for the cat or the boat and you literally can't go anywhere!!!
This game being a "buggy mess" is highly exaggerated, in my opinion. In my time playing, there were maybe one or two minor graphical glitches, and one glitch that prevents you from interacting with doors, which can be fixed by just pressing ESC. Apparently there haven't been any updates since release, but for 99 cents the game has enough content and is more than worth it, I think.
It took me 17 minutes to run into a game breaking oversight that literally prevents me from completing one of the first objectives.
Super fun game, love playing as a cat and it's cute. Highly recommend <3
