About
A Fatberg is a hardened lump of waste matter that accumulates throughout sewer systems and can block entire sections of sewers, causing a most unpleasant chaos.
You are a lowly janitor who has been forced to do the dangerous job of breaking apart fatbergs in the sewers just before a rain storm. Unfortunately there are unspeakable things living deep down in those sewers who do not like to be disturbed, and they won't let such easy prey leave their underworld alive.
The fear of the dark and the fear of the unknown play a big part in creating a strong unsettling atmosphere in Fatberg. As players explore the sewers looking for fatbergs they won't know what they will find around every dark and slimy corner.
Once again we have chosen the PS1 visual style for our horror game. It's unsettling crudeness combines well with the subject matter of the game. It allows older gamers to tune into memories of horror games from the past, and newer gamers can experience a more primitive form of fear and horror for the first time.
We are not trying to recreate the fast paced first-person-shooter games of the past. Fatberg takes it's time with the player and builds a healthy sense of impending doom before all hell breaks loose.
Sewers are one of the archetypal locations of all video games. Fatberg takes place almost entirely within the sewers. However every location within the game has a different visual language for describing what a sewer is, and hopefully we will be pleasing those who want archetypes and those who want something newer.

This game really was not great. It's well made, it's visually very good and the level design at first is alright. Later on, you start to really notice its flaws. There's a lot of padding, your character moves super slow and the paths are designed to make you walk back and forth to press a button to unlock a path back where you started, which sounds like good level design, but there's a lot of hallways with no purpose other than to be long and take up your time. No details, just an empty hallway. On top of this, each area introduces an enemy, maybe two and that's the only enemy you fight for the entire area. They don't really do anything either besides walk at you and try to hit you, and every attack can be avoided by holding backwards. You can't be hit by walking backwards, like ever. They give you 3 weapons, but only the first one (The Shovel) is actually good and it kills every enemy, even the large ones. It does the most damage and it's easily the most reliable. Everything in this game just feels wrong and strange, despite the apparent quality on display with its visual design. I think the developer could make a good game, but they might want to focus on their gameplay and level design. This game needed more feedback before it came out, it's more than a slog. To say it's got a lot of padding is a big understatement. And for some weird reason, you can't use the mouse on the menus. Try to focus on fun in the future. Ask yourself "is this anything" next time you go to make something.

I typically don't even do reviews but after paying 9 bucks for a walking sim with some shovel slapping, I got to let others know. The premise and idea of the game is cool, i didnt expect a deep story or some crazy plot to keep me interested so the gameplay had to be something right? Heh. No. You walk at a pace that i could describe as "old lady with a hip replacement and a walker speed" Any backtracking you do makes this a slog, as you'll only backtrack what looks like 10 feet and feels like a mile. 2 whole hours of holding the W key. Levels go on far too long because of this. Combat is simple, your shovel, the only melee weapon and one of 3, is actually the best weapon. Nailgun is weak, holds 9 nails, and the only excuse i found to use it was to start fights to have the monsters start approach me so i could hit them with the shovel sooner. Aerosol spray can flamethrower is only for one level and its worthless, has shovel range and its a damage over time effect. Which you'd be using on rats who are one hit with the shovel. All monsters are melee monsters, which are all defeated by walking backwards or side stepping. Some encounters do pose a challenge but i never died once. Due to the walking speed the levels are long or at least feel longer than their welcome. I cannot understate how slow you walk. Even when you have seen the tricks of the enemies and the placements and you've learned how to beat them, congrats there's 3 more floors that offer nothing new in each level. Games not fun, has a cool premise and art style, monster animations are more animated that expected, but man the core gameplay loop is boring, there's no exploration outside of "oh did i round this OTHER corner?" There is ONE chase sequence, and because you walk at world's oldest turtle speed, I was like "yes this is how i'll get my first death screen, because there's no way something could be slower." Alas the thing chasing you somehow goes slower, turning what should be a panic sequence into being chased by a walmart greeter who didn't get to see your receipt. The caves were the only level where it felt open and different, and after that you are back to sewer levels with different wallpaper. A sprint button that puts you at 2x speed would turn this game into a chore rather than a slog. I have absolutely no reason to replay this game for the other ending which is btw chose a door for an ending. The name is fitting however, You are the fatberg slowly sloshing down the sewer that is this game. I cannot recommend this game, there are free games with better entertainment value.
It's pretty good, generally speaking. It feels slow in terms of walking, changing weapons, etc., but still enjoyable. Sometimes I caught myself pressing shift hoping in vain I'd get some kind of speed increase- even a slow jog would have been like a ray of sunshine. Only a mild selection of monsters and weapons, but everything is okay.. aerosol flamethrower sucks and will get you killed though. It also could have used more story, lore, and things to see and read, but maybe that's just me. The sound design is excellent; good music similar to 70's-80's horror, satisfying sound effects (for some reason the sound breaking the fatbergs is really satisfying), and the sound queues are really spot on. Audio-wise, very well done. Sometimes it's details like that, that can make or break a game and this one does well in that department. I also enjoyed the copious references to other horror movies and games, which always kept me smiling. All in all, not bad. Not worth 9 bucks, though.
unfortunately this game starts strong but is probably 3 times longer than it should be. constantly start dozing off while doing nothing but walking through empty corridors.
A very, very strange game with amazing atmosphere and tense gameplay. I'm loving it!
I initially assumed Fatberg would simply be a retread of Revenge of the Colon, trading intestines for sewers. I was wrong. Mechanically, Fatberg is considerably more complex and engaging (however, that is NOT to say that it is a complex and engaging experience). It plays much more like a proper first-person shooter, whereas Revenge of the Colon feels more like a medical-themed cleaning simulator with occasional FPS mechanics thrown into the mix. That being said, Revenge of the Colon has the more developed narrative. Fatberg's story is essentially: the sewer is ****ed; get down there and clean up the fatbergs or you're fired. Naturally, while down there, you'll encounter some Lovecraftian terrors and a more developed narrative. Unfortunately, Fatberg does not have the same "tightness" with regards to the concise delivery of Revenge of the Colon..in other words, it feels a bit long when one considers the amount of content. Different settings aside, these games are more distinct than they initially appear, and Fatberg's stronger, more action-oriented gameplay gives it its own identity which i enjoyed for its straightforward, sci-fi-horror aesthetic and gameplay. This experience won't be for everyone due its awkward pacing and latter-game mechanics, but I certainly enjoyed it.
Great indie horror, creepy monsters, straight-forward gameplay. I would've liked to be able to run/increase movement speed, as walking the entire game feels slow paced compared to everything else.
Hard pass. I liked the page art and trailer more than the game. This feels like a proof of concept not worth $10. Can't even use your mouse in the menu. You move painfully slow. Annoying loud, not scary enemies jump from corners. Questionable design choices like heads bobbing silently during cutscenes and I'm supposed to believe a minimum wage janitor HAS to clean the sewers, as if he can't get that job anywhere else?? Not to mention his coworkers that have been there much longer all got killed, but the guy that's worked here for a MONTH is the hero?! You lost me when I saw dirty sex toys in the nail gun room as if those would ever be in a sewer. Idk man. I'm out. Refunded.
