Fart Game

"Fart Game" is a garbage tier joke game slapped together with GameMaker Studio... it's a simple minigame where you time things right to release flatus. Yeah, stupid idea, implemented badly (although a quality implementation wouldn't save this terrible joke premise). This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. This was made with the godawful "GameMaker Studio" construction kit/toolset, which is popular amongst amateur developers because it handholds you through making really crap 2D games that you can publish for $100 on Steam Direct. This lets you pat yourself on the back for pretending to be a real game developer, which explains why GameMaker Studio is responsible for so much ignored garbage on Steam. GameMaker Studio has never really been used to make a truly successful game, but that doesn't stop people from trying and failing. It's a particularly bad game engine that can only be used for making low quality 2D products. Like this. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, as the old saying goes. Another reason this particular game wasn't successful. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at [b]only 5 concurrent players[/b]... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. There's no up front cost here, but I still feel like I got ripped off, and I didn't even spend any money. That's how bad this is. [b]Note: Joke reviews[/b] Because this is more of a "joke" game, intended to draw attention from controversy or in the hopes of going viral because it's "so bad it's good" (but it isn't good at all), there's nothing here to offer to serious gamers. As usual, with most awful/joke games, all the comedians come out of the woodwork. The vast majority of the reviews for this game are joke reviews, mocking the game for just how bad it is. The comedians give us the usual "this game cured my cancer, saved my marriage, changed my life" story... sarcastic, but not useful if you want to know if the game is worth it. Because most of the reviews are as insincere as the game itself is, the positive review score for this game should not be considered an accurate representation of the quality of the game.

"Fart Game" setzt vollständig auf seinen Furz-Humor und richtet sich damit an eine sehr spezielle Zielgruppe. Wer mit dieser Art von Humor nichts anfangen kann, wird hier vermutlich nur wenig Freude haben. Das Spielprinzip selbst ist sehr simpel gehalten und erinnert stellenweise an Spiele wie "Kissing During Work". Im Mittelpunkt steht ausschließlich das richtige Timing: Man versucht, möglichst oft unbemerkt zu furzen, ohne dabei erwischt zu werden. Die Mechanik ist zwar sofort verständlich, bietet auf Dauer jedoch kaum spielerische Tiefe. Genau darin liegt für mich auch die größte Schwäche des Spiels. Eine wirkliche Herausforderung entsteht nur selten und auch Abwechslung sucht man vergeblich. Hinzu kommt, dass es kein übergeordnetes Ziel gibt. Das Spiel basiert ausschließlich auf einem Highscore-System, wodurch sich das Gameplay bereits nach wenigen Minuten zu wiederholen beginnt und relativ schnell monoton wirkt. Auch die Grafik kann diesen Eindruck nicht wirklich auflockern. Das gesamte Spiel besteht im Wesentlichen aus einem einzigen Bildschirm in schlichter Pixelgrafik. Zwar erfüllt diese ihren Zweck, etwas Besonderes oder optisch Interessantes wird allerdings nicht geboten. Insgesamt wirkt die Präsentation sehr einfach, simpel und funktional. Positiv hervorzuheben ist lediglich, dass das Spiel genau weiß, was es sein möchte. Es versucht gar nicht erst, ein umfangreiches oder tiefgründiges Spielerlebnis zu bieten, sondern setzt konsequent auf wenige Minuten unkomplizierten Furz-Humor. Entsprechend ist eine Runde bereits nach etwa zehn Minuten erlebt und das Spiel überzieht seine Idee zumindest nicht unnötig. Alles in allem hat mich "Fart Game" jedoch eher kaltgelassen. Wer den Humor des Spiels nicht teilt oder eine gewisse spielerische Qualität und Abwechslung erwartet, wird hier vermutlich nicht fündig. Für Fans von sehr einfachem Meme-Humor mag das Spiel funktionieren, meinen Geschmack hat es allerdings nicht getroffen. Müsst ihr wissen!
