I've never been a sim guy. In fact, I deliberately teased and made fun of my eldest because he played this over anything (without PTFO mind you) for a couple years now. I got bored late one night last week and wanted something "chill" to play. I didn't want to have to fight a hunger bar, or have to fight off a horde of zombies and toxic players. I'm not sure what come over me, but I installed FS25 from the family library and booted into Grandpas farm. I went through the routine of learning the basics (sort of), and put it down for the night. I obsessed over Noita for the next few days before returning to Grandpa's farm. Suddenly, Grandpa didn't appear as well as he had last I'd seen him, he looked cold and pale; tired. A pressure come upon me and I started taking up contracts and working for the locals to save up some money; Gramps neeeds a break and I grow worried. I worked the dirt in the neighbors plot, and baled another. I called it a night and hit the hay; figuratively speaking. I rose the next morning. Grandpa was gone. And in my distress I decided to pack up my things and move to the mountains of "The Majestic Land", I'd discovered this region while browsing realestate via the local Mod Hub. A quiet little town surrounded by a dense forest one can easily get away from the harsh realities of life. Maybe Grandpa will be with me in spirit. I bought a 1990 Chevy (found from an alternative HUB) that is nearly a 1:1 copy of my real world truck; albeit a nicer setup than mine. I took it to the shop and had it's cab visor put on, and since we're in the practice of mastering the likely addictive and unhealthy nature of escapism I gave it a better front and rear bumper and painted it's silver/black two tone. Bought me a trailer and a plot of land deep into the North East corner of the area and set off for the bush to begin my homestead with just me, the truck, my chainsaw and mindless hours of isolated manual labor. It's been 3 days now, my wife now owns FS25, we both own the Y1 and Y2 passes, joining ownership with both my son and my Father in law. A long time friend see's this, and buys us an additional copy to spare us the rental fees (I have extensive means for self hosting dedicated servers). The family joins the farm. Papa takes a small plot of land in the south west area of town and begins his busy work as he's a seasoned farmer since the beginning of the franchise. He chuckles at my badger hole in the thicket but complains not and supports as needed if I have inquiry. Wife and I begin a clearing in the thicket of our nestled corner of the forest. It takes a few days (real time x 3 day months), but I we managed to clear it out. I got us an A-Frame cabin built, and did some landscaping to give it a homely feel. I've got a bit of covered storage for storing the trailers and the new to me tractor w/ front loader attachment. My daughter (7) decides she wants to play. So I begin work on a "gokart" track in the back yard. I cut a reasonably twisted path through the woods and work the dirt for a clear path. She joins on her steam deck and we run to town to pick up a little ATV (raptor) she can scoot around on while I work on completing the gokart track. I put in a little pond next to the house. It was a PITA but finally got it done. Life seems to be passinng me by in the blink of an eye at this point. Building a life of my dreams I can only wish to provide in the real world. Depressing? Probably, memorable? Definintely. My wife and I have transitioned well into this new life of living. I took her to town to buy a new trailer; she had the foresight to buy a 40' goose neck logging trailer for future considerations; but lacked the nearsightedness (and experience) to know that I couldn't get a 40' trailer through the woods at this time, the trees are just too thick! But, you can't argue with a woman and I knew this when I got married; so we bought the 40 foot trailer. We got the trailer stuck. We bickered. She logged. I sold the trailer, bought a shorter one to serve us until the roads can be widened. She logs in the next day to see the new house and landscaping; I am forgiven. But now I must buy chickens, and there's some nonsense about pigs and goats; so I fear the unbearable stench of swine in my near future; maybe I'll put it down wind. Farming Simulator 25? Nah, Life Simulator 25. I'm still broke, because I'm no farmer. But, I'm pretty good with a chainsaw and a pickup; so we get by. Since the in-laws have moved to town, I aim to sit down with him over the next few months to learn the ways of the farmer. Lord knows I'm going to need to learn in order to sustain al the dang livestock my wife insists on picking up. I don't make fun of my son anymore. It's my hope when he returns home from his summer vacation he'll be glad to see that Dad's fallen in love with his favorite game. I miss Grandpa. Thanks for teaching me the basics. R.I.P
