Fantasy Survivors, a survivor-like that gives you nothing you'd generally expect from a game in it's genre. PROs: - It's multiplayer - It's cheap. - Once you have enough gear, you can set a loadout, to reduce the amount of garbage items you'll get offered. - The dev is still working on it, I guess? CONs: - There's no lobby system, 1 friend has to start a run and then wait for the rest to join. - It's only balanced around multiplayer, the singleplayer experience is horrendous. - You can't get some wild level of attack speed and turn into a blender. - You can't make your projectiles or abilities multiple times the size of your character. - All aoe weapons have a target cap(?). - Even the swords have a target cap, with a horrific attack animation that struggles with any form of y axis movement. - I can't say for certain about all characters, but every character I (and my friends) have unlocked so far has been through pure rng, you have to just run a level enough and hope you get gear/characters instead of just gold. - The entire Marble system. - The Survivor Level system. All in all, it's an aggressively mid game that's only true redeeming quality is that you can play it with your friends and laugh at the absurdity that is realising the quality of the game you're playing. Kinda fun with friends/10.
I have to unfortunately give this game a thumbs down, even though I really want to like it. On the surface it's a multiplayer focused Vampire Survivors game with a ton of characters and meta-progression. However in playing it is just full of unfun design decisions. The game prioritizes "Survivor Levels" as the gameplay mechanic locks. But you need 25 achievements to unlock the first set of additional mechanics. Which can take anywhere from 7 to 10 hours. During that time you'll start to realize there are only really about 5 weapons, and every other weapon is a clone of the original but with a different model. Then the other realizations start happening. Enemy hitboxes are much larger than you'd expect. Your weapon hitboxes are smaller than you'd expect, even after leveling them up. Meta upgrades are more expensive then they really need to be and characters really have fewer differences then you want. There are also just noticeable programming bugs you'd expect to have been ironed out very early on. Like weapons that have a few frames at their starting length before "jumping" to their new upgraded range. And the obscure way "learning a weapon" knowledge is actually obtained. Overall the entire game is just disappointing. It promises a lot of good things but it never delivers. If you're looking for a game to play with your friends and you really set your expectations low maybe you will enjoy this game. But honestly it's just a case study of how a few short-sighted decisions can truly effect the quality of what could have been an otherwise great game.
Great Game, highly recommend, decent progression system and constant updates, its co-op makes it much more fun.
Honestly a great game -- deserves way more attention than it gets. I think a lot of people get confused expecting it to play like "Vampire Survivors but multiplayer" but it's a bit slower and more methodical in pacing where your goal is to just barely survive and get your unlocks so you can work on unlocking new mechanics to expand your progression. The Good: Very fun in multiplayer Definitely doable in singleplayer it's just hard (ignore older reviews) Far more roguelite than Vampire Survivors Faster runs than Vampire Survivors More thoughtful gameplay loop than vampire survivors -- you have loadouts and making sure they synergize is important for leveling up characters and completing certain achievements with them. The Bad: The dev wants a bunch of weapons to just be literally useless and you're going to have to waste your time unlocking them for achievements anyway. Of the remaining good weapons, many are the exact same thing +/- a debuff. Some will just be straight up better versions of existing weapons that weren't even an upgrade. (Knife, Poison Knife and Extra Poison Knife. Bow, Better Bow, Worse Bow but Poison, Worse Bow but Hard CC and Healing. Spear, Wet Spear, Hurty Spear) Many, many of the upgrades are the most bland, barely noticeable +1% damage/defense/aoe upgrades. They don't feel impactful but are "necessary" for your survival. Certain enemies possess undodgeable or nearly undodgeable ranged attacks. On the hardest difficulty this will literally just end your run out of nowhere sometimes. No music besides the menu. Several weapons have terrible audio choices that definitely begin to grate over even a single round (looking at you flintlock).
This is my 35th Steam review, and I'm pleased to say it's a strong recommendation and I'm ashamed I didn't review it earlier. Fantasy Survivors is a great game with albeit, some flaws. But the devs have provided years of updates and commitment to the game. There's not a single DLC, yet receives frequent updates and love. It's pretty balanced, although solo is slower than co-op but either way there is a good progression system. While Fantasy Survivors does lean more into co-op game play, the game it still very playable as solo. I would like to see better balancing and enemy difficulty for solo games, but Fantasy Survivors is still a solid game with devs who have proven they are devoted to the game and listen to player feedback.
I do like it, I think it would be more fun with friends than alone, but I just lost a good chunk of time because a level didn't end properly. Exited via the portal and the area got brighter, nothing was moving but the animations were still going frozen where I was standing when the finish screen came up. I tried to close via the in-game menu but it didn't get me out of the match. Alt+F4 was my only option, I load back in and notice I went down a survivor level and in-game achievements on the only profile I played on were undone, an entire areas worth of time, leveling, and gold were gone.
I love the game, the care that the team provides for their game and their close communication with the community. It's always fun to try out new builds and ways to improve or discover synergies. Thank you for the ongoing effort to keep us pleased, entertained and hyped.
A solid entry in the genre that is janky, but no jankier than Vampire Survivors. Far easier on the eyes in terms of vfx and the menus are less clunky. Still, has some annoyances. There are things you'd expect to have a hovering tool tip that don't, and some of the menus will overlap (all tue borders are transparent so it isn't hard to read, just looks sloppy Solo is slow, but entirely playable. I saw some reviews calling it too difficult, and while I do think it could be more streamlined for beginners, it's not hard to make some progress. Consider using tactics like choke points, and don't be afraid to hunt for chests rather than just surviving. Also wish more female characters were frontloaded. I see some in there but at least one should be a starter or unlockable in the first map!
Been meaning to pick this one up for quiet sometime. Since playing its hard to put down, constantly coming back night and day - having a blast (pun intended) The retro atmosphere hits the mark and you can see the influence from classics the likes of Diablo and Gauntlet and many more. Alot of Hero's, weapons, gear, artifacts and maps to unlock - each unique and can make various builds. Single player is on its own merit challenging but is a option, although what makes this shine is in its Co-Op sheer mayhem and pandemonium, more is the merrier. Solid pick up and play. "Gather your allies and venture forth" Baldur's Gate
it's a pixel rogue-like that has 30+ unlockable characters, each with 2 weapons, about 25 maps, tons of customization for your build going into dungeons. Pretty good deal for $7 bucks! It's got lots of fun quirks and is very relaxing to play. The dev team is super friendly and the discord is active. They do updates and new content quite frequently and the player base is friendly and helpful.
