We need Chinese!

It baffles me that this is a fan game, yet it has such low visibility compared to its peers. Fantasy Maiden Wars is a Touhou fan game that I only recently discovered in 2026 after watching a friend play through it during the summer. This game is the biggest love letter to the Touhou franchise that I have ever seen, and I do not think that will change for a very long time. It manages to weave the disconnected incidents of the official Touhou games into one massive, coherent narrative—and it is really, really fun. It is probably one of the best introductions to the Touhou franchise that I have ever experienced because it does not rely on the player having any prerequisite knowledge at all. The game reintroduces and develops the characters while establishing their places within the world of Gensokyo. It also expresses their personalities and idiosyncrasies through their animations, abilities, and gameplay. The game also boasts an incredible music library of more than 200 tracks. This largely stems from its long development period, from 2010 to 2022, during which it was released as four separate games before eventually being compiled into one package. Every track in the game’s music library also includes notes explaining its origins and how it relates to the Touhou franchise, or the developers fun stories during development. One final feature I really want to highlight is the Spell Card system used by bosses and elite enemies. Playing through the game blind on Lunatic difficulty was one of my favorite experiences in the entire SRPG genre. The system adds another layer of interactivity to boss encounters and discourages players from simply throwing all of their strongest units at a boss after clearing the map (Ex. Fire Emblem). One of my favorite moments in the game was specifically getting punished for my avarice in rushing said bosses, and doing the surprised pikachu face when I saw the spellcard I had to deal with. This further emphasized when I misread the order of said spellcards, and realizing not only is the buff gross, but it's a AOE spellcard and watching my party eat sh-. (Thanks Ran. Yes it was still clearable and I didn't rollback the save to clear the map.) The game is roughly 120-150+ hours on a Lunatic blind playthrough, and roughly 300+ hours if you are going for post game content. I highly recommend Lunatic difficulty in particular if you have experience with SRPGs in general (games like Fire Emblem, Tactics like games, and etc as a example) and are willing to look for a challenge even if this is your first Super Robot Wars like game. This game is a complete spectacle from beginning to end and has tons of heart behind it. I really look forward to what the individual team members of Sanbondo will do in the future.
Dont mind the low playtime - I've spent plenty of hours on this game on a... non-steam version of this game before purchasing, just to see what it's all about before i did. I got completely sucked in from the first hour and it has not let me go since. I am in shock and awe of the amount of depth, writing, unique interactions and the sheer quantity and quality of content this game provides - if you have any, ANY interest in Touhou at all this is a must play, and its criminal this game doesnt have vastly more reviews than it currently does.

If you new to Touhou and want to learn about the lore. This game is perfect for you. Every characters skills have their own animation and they have many interactions with each other. Note that this game only cover story from Touhou 6 to Touhou 12, few spin-off title which is canon to the mainline and original storyline with original characters create by the dev. Honestly this game is the best fanmade Touhou game I have ever play in my life. Second place goes to Touhou Mystia's Izakaya
It's peak Touhou and peak SRW and I want a sequel with Yorigami Joon being God Gundam I never really cared for the Aki Sisters but them having SUPER INAZUMA KICK got me to pay attention to them and enjoy their obsession with Autumn being Number 1 which I now totally agree with, Winter? Summer? Spring? All are incorrect AUTUMN IS BEST SEASON KICK EVERYONE IN THE FACE
No two ways about it, this is the best Super Robot Wars game available in English and it isn't even a competition. Combines the absolute best aspects of the SRW series, with the incredible characters and stories of Touhou, and adds new and unique mechanics on top. Even if you have no knowledge of Touhou or Super Robot Wars, I cannot recommend this game enough.
This game is incredible, easily among the best SRPGs I've played and particularly notable for having by far the best boss fights of any I've played thanks in large part to how it adapts the wild bullet hell patterns of Touhou into arrangements of field effects. The story is overall pretty good, I am (or was) unfamiliar with much of touhou prior to playing this, and it makes for an excellent introduction to the series and setting of Gensokyo and its delightful array of characters. Of which there are a ton, over 70 playable characters and you would be hard pressed to say any of them are neglected in the writing, which presents an enormous amount of dialogue both in and out of fights, and a great deal of which comes in contextual exchanges between characters and whoever is the stage boss of the day. Shockingly the game also manages to make every single one of the character stand out in gameplay as well, while some are certainly stronger than others and some may fill similar niches to other characters every single one of them is distinct in ways that makes it really interesting learning how to play with your squad. The game is quite long, which comes in part from apparently having originally being four games, and comes with two main campaigns (Reimu and Marisa) which are largely the same story but with a handful of unique missions for each in each arc (apart from the final arc), as well as several short optional episodes unlocked as you play. Individual stages can also be quite long, though you can speed things up by skipping animations or playing on a lower difficulty. The game is not especially difficult on Normal or Normal+, while higher difficulties will present a genuine challenge forcing you to use all of the tools at your disposal especially if you're aiming to get the Bonus on every stage and capture every Spell Card. Overall I would highly recommend Fantasy Maiden Wars, please do yourself a favor and give it a try.
