Relaxing fishing game with a simple and easy to learn fishing mini-game to spend a couple of evenings on. You get to fish in a few different locations and as you progress difficulty increases a bit, but not to the point where it gets frustrating at all. The game offers a simple story to guide you through the game, there are side quests and delivery competitions to complete and a variety of rods, lures, hooks, bait, diving gear and cosmetics to buy for the money you make from fishing. You can sell fish directly to a vendor, but completing side quests and especially winning top rank in the deliveries make your funds go up faster. You also have a journal that tracks your stats, which is a helpful feature for anyone going for all the achievements. Most you'll get simply by working your way through the story, for others you'll have to put in some extra effort - especially when it comes to filling out your fishing book.
Having my fish getting eaten by other fish is the worst mechanic in the game. It happens WAAAAY too often, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Honestly this game feels more like a stock simulator rather than an actual fishing game with how you have to hold legendary catches for them to sell better with quest board/deliveries, I do NOT enjoy the fishing with how crap the pay off is.
Best way to describe this game is like flossing with paper. TL;DR Game does not explain its "unique" mechanics to you and leaves new players floundering in trial and error in frustration. Only becomes somewhat enjoyable at the end with all upgrades unlocked, but otherwise a painful endeavor. I am not an expert on fishing nor am I prolific with fishing simulators, but I have played a number of fishing related games and in-game minigames, with a variety of mechanics. This game by far has to be one of the most convoluted ones I have encountered, compounded by the fact it does not explain six out of the ten mechanics involved in fishing. It explains casting, adjusting lure, hooking (poorly), and reeling. However, it does not explain that you can overcast your line because your "distance" factor on your rod also effects the depth you can lower your hook and it does not explain that overcasting leads to the fish most likely breaking the line the instant you hook them. It also does not explain the "failure" mechanic as well, where attempting to reel outside the green zone not only does not help pull in the fish, but too many efforts to do so (indicated by the count down number next to the reeling bar) will cause you to instantly fail to catch the fish, letting them escape with your bait. Does not explain how you do NOT need to drop a fish's health to zero to catch it, just get it close enough to the dock, but also does not explain how "super catching" works and how it helps you catch the fish. It is not that these mechanics do not make sense, it is that they are never explained to you. These factors had to be discovered by the player through trial and error, which is even further frustrating because failures literally cost you money since there is no "free" bait in the game. When money is tight and fish are not very valuable, each failed catch can set you back significantly and slow your traction in getting the upgrades that are rather costly. The explanations in this game are so poor I had to go to the forum to discover that to turn in the "paper" quests you get from the quest board in the village, you HAVE to do it in your little fishing menu. In the instructions it only says "you can see your quests" in the menu, and unlike almost any other game with quests where you turn it in at the board you got it from or are able to turn it in at the board OR in the menu, this game makes you go into your menu to turn in the quests, once again, never explaining that to you. I understand how some players complain of hand holding and how frustrating tutorials/explanation screens are, but providing even just a still image telling you what all the icons on the casting user interface that the player could bring up when they want to know or a optional tutorial NPC to talk to would be so much more helpful then letting the players flounder on their own. I can go on about how the fishing and delivery quests are annoying, the best way to make money is the little diving quests the villagers give you instead of actually fishing, how the "fish eating fish" mechanic makes sense until you realized it is based on species and not size which leaves tiny fish eating your big catches, and how the meager story offered tries to be funny but falls flat, and how the first female sprite you see has a idle motion that is almost exclusively her over-sized pixelated chest bouncing (which, if generously interpreted, is the developer's attempt to be "funny" and "ironic", but considering this character has no speaking lines and no comment is made regarding it, comes off as failing to be satirical at all at best and gratuitous and self-indulgent at worst) I do not recommend this game to anyone except maybe masochists and those willing to spend the first two hours of a game grinding their teeth.
Shake da bushes, save fattest fishes you catch for deliveries, choose hardest paper quests, go dip into the water and back to shore until you see fish you need = profit. (Also don’t bother with casting too far, best to catch closer to shore and lure fish to the surface. You can catch them real fast like that) Over all, simple little fishing game until you want to complete your fishing book. That’s where real fishing challenge starts and hardest biome is the easiest at the start of the game… mainly cuz fishes are so small there that you really need to stare to see if they are bigger than normal xD [insert man staring at the small piece of paper.jpg] (I hate you Pale Chub) P.S. Idk why my character complained, it was best wish. :3
Fantasy Fishing Town is a gentle, low-pressure indie adventure that mixes simple fishing mechanics with a light quest structure and colorful pixel-art presentation. Developed and published by RainbowStudio, the game offers a warm, relaxing experience centered around exploring various biomes, catching increasingly rare fish, and helping townsfolk with small errands. Rather than striving for simulation-level realism or elaborate systems, the game leans into accessibility and charm, inviting players to unwind as they travel through hilltops, icy lakes, swamps, and desert oases in search of new species and legendary catches. The core gameplay is built around a straightforward but satisfying loop. You enter a fishing zone, observe fish silhouettes swimming across the 2D side-scrolling screen, and cast your line when the timing feels right. Once a fish bites, a short minigame begins, requiring careful input to successfully reel it in without snapping the line. This system is easy enough for newcomers to grasp but responsive enough to remain enjoyable over extended play. Progression comes from acquiring new rods, hooks, bobbers, and bait types; each combination slightly alters the fishing feel or the likelihood of catching particular species. Though the mechanics never become complex, the process of optimizing gear to chase specific fish provides a mild strategic layer that keeps the experience from becoming entirely mindless. Quests give structure to your fishing expeditions. Town residents request certain fish or ingredients, creating a steady flow of goals that encourage you to revisit earlier areas and explore new ones. These quests stay simple—catch a particular fish, deliver an item, or gather a set of materials—but they give the adventure a sense of direction. The game also teases the existence of legendary fish, rare and valuable targets that reward persistence and provide long-term motivation. While the narrative framing is minimal, the quest system does help break up repetition and injects a mild sense of accomplishment as you check off objectives and expand the town’s offerings. Presentation is one of Fantasy Fishing Town’s strongest aspects. The pixel-art style is bright, clean, and expressive, giving each region a distinct atmosphere despite its modest scope. Backgrounds shift from sunlit plains to snowy cliffs and murky marshlands, creating variety even when the underlying fishing mechanics remain consistent. The animations are smooth, especially during casting and reeling, and the simple character designs have a pleasant retro charm. The soundtrack supports the laid-back feel with soft, unobtrusive melodies that let the repetitive actions of fishing settle into a soothing rhythm. Combined with the game’s low system requirements and stable performance, Fantasy Fishing Town becomes a comfortable experience even on older machines. However, the simplicity that makes the game relaxing also limits its depth. After several hours, many players may notice the repetition in mechanics and environments. Although the locations are visually different, they function similarly, and the process of catching fish rarely evolves beyond the familiar cast-and-reel routine. The quests, while helpful for pacing, often rely on predictable fetch patterns, providing little narrative or mechanical escalation. NPCs are lightly characterized, and interactions with the town feel more like mechanical checkpoints than meaningful storytelling moments. Those expecting progression-based fishing upgrades, biome-specific techniques, or a richer ecosystem simulation might find the experience too shallow. Despite its limitations, Fantasy Fishing Town remains a charming and worthwhile pick for fans of casual, peaceful gameplay. It succeeds not by complexity but by consistency: it is easy to pick up, pleasant to play in short bursts, and visually inviting. It is the kind of game best enjoyed in quiet moments—something to unwind with after a long day, or to play intermittently while focusing on its satisfying, rhythmic loop. For players who want a deep fishing simulator or mechanically rich adventure, it may feel lightweight; but for those seeking a cozy, unhurried experience with enjoyable pixel art and straightforward aims, Fantasy Fishing Town offers exactly that.
